Who doesn’t like more options when it comes to putters?
Lineup expansions are always fun, and with HB SOFT 2, Cleveland Golf has already brought forth a couple of interesting ones, but nothing quite like this. Given the growing popularity of long putters on Tour, Cleveland Golf is expanding the HB SOFT 2 lineup in a bold new way.
The New Additions – Cleveland Golf HB SOFT 2

Odds are you have noticed that longer than standard putters are making a comeback in a big way. Obviously, there is the somewhat traditional counterbalance design which is longer than standard to provide that key back weighting aspect.
We also cannot forget the true long putter designs known as broomsticks. Once thought to be on the brink of extinction thanks to the terribly thought out anchoring ban, golfers have adapted and arguably made broomstick putters more usable than before with modified techniques working around the rule change.

However, price has always at times been a barrier for people to try out longer than standard putter types. Cleveland Golf has recognized that, and they are looking to create a foothold. What better way to do that than to use the HB SOFT 2 lineup as the baseline?
“Seeing how successful these putter models have been on tour and the interest they’ve had among everyday golfers– it was a no brainer for us to create our own models. Golfers tend to be tinkerers and are always looking for any edge to get better, especially on the greens. The unique weighting and alternative designs of these putters offer a personalized fit for players seeking more control and stability in their stroke.”
-Casey Shultz, Senior Product Manager at Cleveland Golf
Over the previous two releases, THP has gone more in-depth on the HB SOFT 2 putters than anyone. In case you are unfamiliar or perhaps just need a refresher, you can check out the full technical rundown of the designs here and here. This release takes those same technical designs, and molds them to fit the CB and BROOM segments.
Counterbalance Putters – HB SOFT 2
Yes, this is moving into a very niche market for Cleveland Golf, so, it makes sense to parse down the head shapes offered. Luckily, they made the right choice. Both the 11 and RETREVE will now be available in a CB (counterbalance) version. Their head weights have been increased to 380g which is offset by the 38” standard length and elongated HB SOFT 2 CB putter grip.

BROOM – HB SOFT 2
Moving on to the BROOM option, it will be offered in the 11 only, though as it might be the best winged mallet out there, it is the perfect option. The head will weigh 470g and come in 46 or 48 inches. Since the broomstick style is much more upright, the head itself is a center shafted design to accommodate the 78-degree lie angle. The putter will use a CG Two Piece grip traditional to all broomstick putters.

The Details
Look, Cleveland Golf knows, as we all do, that over-length putters will never be the largest sellers, but that doesn’t mean they should be hard to find for those who want to try them. In fact, historically it has not been only the options which have limited them, but the price as well. Good news there, Cleveland Golf is offering the RETREVE and 11 CB putters for $169.99 and the 11 BROOM for only $199.99. Initially these will be offered in platinum satin only.

Nice additions to a great and underrated lineup. I wonder if or when they will do a S2S / LAB type model. With that face milling i think they’d do well with it.
Boy I wish these CB options would’ve been available for the Srixon! Moving from a CB back to a traditional putter today wasn’t great for my game.

I’m betting we see everyone with an option of them here in the next year or so
I look forward to the Srixon event guys jumping in this thread. Discovering something excellent at a cheaper price is strange in golf. If its true with any release this season, this is the product.
@Canadan its freezing out here and I forced myself to stay out here until I hit six 3-foot putts in a row. :ROFLMAO:

Really liking the Cleveland 10.5P. Seems very well balanced. What I don’t know is if I’m supposed to forward lean the shaft or not?

nicely done!!!
I think the perspective on shaft lean is a bit mixed. I hate it because it adds a variable – a lot of people definitely love it.

Yeah I just didn’t know if certain necks were made for lean or not. Gotta do more research on putters.
11 Broom showed up today.
I think seeing so many LABs on tour made me expect to see a bigger head on the putter. But I don’t dislike the look

How does it feel? swinging something that long would make me nervous
The more I use my Cleveland 10.5P, the more I like it. I’m coming from the “hot new thing” putter so I was a little scared, I’ll be honest.
I absolutely love the shape of it. I don’t like huge mallet heads and this putter is the perfect size. It’s large enough but compact. It feels great no matter where I hit it, and seems to be very consistent across the face. I have only played 1 round since I left Texas because of crap weather, but I have been on the practice green A LOT with it.
I picked the right shape that just jives with me.

The few putts in the basement feel good. I’ve Huntington Beach putters from Cleveland and this feels right in line.
Getting used to the broomstick is interesting. From the tinkering, I don’t think I’m a claw grip guy. I more like the palm pointing at the target and treating the stroke like a bowl of sorts.

Its an experiment. I’m going to play it for April, pass it along to another THPer. I wanted a low risk easy entry into the segment

Did anyone think to ask what qualifies as “inside the leather” on one of these when the gimmies discussion was happening the past couple days?
Broomstick putters are different. Will experiment more.
