The Cleveland Golf lineup came back with a bang a couple of weeks ago with the launch of their new Launcher XL drivers and fairway woods. Following that up was the Launcher XL Halo irons and we had a full video breakdown of that set. Today, the lineup becomes complete with the preview of the new Cleveland Launcher XL irons.
A couple of years ago, Cleveland released the UHX irons and we dubbed them one of the most underrated sets of the year. The new Launcher XL takes some cues from that set, but builds a different animal, one that after watching the video below, will be extremely well received.
The lineup comes complete with either the True Temper Elevate 95 steel shafts or the Project X Cypher iron shafts. An interesting note is that if you are someone that struggles with the length of irons, the Cleveland Launcher XL irons can be ordered in what is called “Accuracy Build” where the clubs are a half inch shorter across the board. By going with this setup, you would lose the Action Mass CB, which is an 8g weight placed inside the butt end of the grip to deliver more balance.
In our THP Tech Studio video below we kick it off with some Cleveland Launcher XL irons tech talk from an overhead view. From there, we hop into the hitting bay where you will see all of the swings and then finally we sit down in table view and breakdown the data from the swings you saw.
After watching the video above, what are your thoughts on the new XL irons?
For the loft and offset peepers out there, here is a breakdown of the tech specs of the set.
The Details
In Stores: 9/17/21

If it were factual sure. Im not here to bash someone elses writing, I dont care where it came from or who wrote it (I honestly dont know). The quote is accurate, the summary, post quote is ******* nonsense.
I’m with you.
Are most of the top sellers GI/SGI irons? I would imagine so, and I think that would explain why the big sellers are also boldly badged. The simple, clean look works well on a player’s CB or blade style. When you add big cavities, undercuts, and chunky soles, though, a club looks weird without something to fill that space.
That is correct. Not entirely so, but in a general picture of the market, yes.
Glad you enjoyed!
It’s been really fun to see Cleveland flex with UHX and now these.
I asked this question on Cleveland’s Facebook page and their response was that it is under the grip not in the shaft.
That answer came straight from our call with R&D and communications today. I will cut one off tomorrow, but I’m pretty confident in their answer.
I’m sure your contact is more reliable than a Facebook response but I guess cutting the grip off is the only actual way to know for sure.
Done. Nice job, @Canadan
Thank you so much!!!!!
was at maple Hill golf in Grandville, MI last night. Super large store. They had the Halos but not the Launcher XL.
Yeah that is the Cleveland “Hibore/HB” mold.
the 4-7 irons are very hybrid like but it’s a progressive set. By the time you get to the 9-PW-DW they are more traditional in size.
this thread is about Cleveland’s more traditional game improvement club.

You can hear the impact sound and @Canadan talking about it in our THP Video that was put out yesterday. Its linked in the first post of this thread.
Here ya go. Surgery was done.

Great. Thanks. So I’m assuming it would be the same for the Launcher XL Halos?
Anyone carrying those clubs on the right in their bags had better be careful, I’ve heard of thieves stealing that much metal to recycle for cash
Yes and the woods.
In a time when we there are multiple threads about price points rising, to see a set come out with Mainframe, AM CB, v-sole, etc and at this price point surely will make THPers happy. This is close to the price of a number of DTC brands with nowhere near the R&D available.
wholeheartedly agree. There is a lot going on here, in a good way.
I’m not playing for a few weeks due to lower back nerve issues and left hip joint pain. Getting both issues looked into and should be back on the golf course early October, I hope.
Love the V sole on these irons. Sorry for the out of focus, my phone kept focusing on the grass.

The 5, 6 & 7 irons have less grooves and are wider spaced. The 8, 9 & PW have more grooves and are tighter spaced. 7 iron on top.

The 5, 6 & 7 irons have solid backs. The 8, 9 & PW irons have cavity backs.

If you get a chance, check out the video in the first post. Lots of good information on the design.
Yes I did and it’s fixed. Thanks
I’ve watched it a few times JB. Love the impact sound as well as the results and Canadan’s swing.. Great video.
Here’s a pic of he impact on the 5 iron. Yes, it felt as good as it looks. :twist:

Show off. ?
Adding to this……has anyone compared the UHX to the Launcher XL ?
Is this Launcher XL a direct replacement for the UHX despite the smaller long irons? Do they launch as high as the UHX?
@Canadan
I haven’t been able to hit these yet because I have not found any in LEFT hand, locally or web hunting. I’m in Michigan. I emailed Cleveland support and learned that left handed Launcher XL iron heads won’t arrive until late December. I do have the HY-Wood with the stock shaft (regular flex) and really like it’s feel and performance.

That’s actually a very good looking club in hand!
It is actually really nice and sounds great as one can hear in the video
I’d be interested as well in any comparison input.
Are you still gaming these irons? What’s your thoughts on them now?
