Since their initial association with Puma, Cobra has been truly coming into their own within the golf industry. The last two years in particular have seen them make gains not only in aesthetics, but also in performance. With the 2014 season looming on the horizon, Cobra is looking to not simply maintain the momentum that they have made, but also to increase it exponentially with their new lineup, the Bio Cell.
“Bio Cell” will serve as the umbrella name of a complete lineup of clubs including drivers, fairways, hybrid, and irons. However, the name itself in this case was not simply to have something catchy to call their clubs, but it legitimately has a two part meaning for Cobra:
- First “Bio” – this stands for a personal and almost DNA like choice. Essentially it is personalization to make the club truly your own. In addition to the various color choices all the way through the lineup that Cobra has come to be known for, there is word that there will possibly be even more personalization opportunities coming down the line for the driver portion of the lineup.
- Second, “Cell” – this represents structural optimization for Cobra. This is a move of bio mimicry. Essentially taking what nature itself does structurally (think honey-combs or spider webs) in order to go lighter while not sacrificing structural strength and integrity. From a performance standpoint, the ability to take weight and redistribute it introduces incredible opportunities for improving performance all the way through the line. This premise is actually visible through the line in the crowns of the woods and the perimeter weighting of the irons.
THP was fortunate enough to see and learn about the specifications and idiosyncrasies of the new lineup in person and literally in hand at Cobra HQ. The breakdown of the entire Bio Cell lineup is below:

It’s a good thing you won’t see the bottom of the woods or back of the irons when you are at setup cause those are fugly.
Amazing, what a great follow up to some amazing clubs.
I do want to hit these offerings, not too crazy about the looks of the irons at all but do looks really matter?
Agreed with DawgDaddy, the looks of the irons don’t thrill me, but sometimes the best dancer at the ball isn’t the prettiest.
Thanks for the lowdown on this new line! The white/blue driver (plus I think) looks absolutely phenomenal.
Cobra is bringing it with this product launch!
I agree that the woods and hybrids are very nice looking and will likely perform very nicely too. But those irons are just plain ugly. How can you go from the Amp to a slightly ugly Amp Cell to this really ugly iron in only a couple of years. To be honest the irons would be fine if not for that ugly bug eyed middle insert section. Come on Cobra, you can do better.
I would definitely include Cobra in any discussion. I have a set of Cobra Amp cell irons, graphite, which I really like. Cobra will be the first I look at.
I’m really looking forward to swinging both driver options and maybe even the FW’s. I’m not in love with the Cell+ crown, but if it is as low-spinning as they’re saying it might be worth the extra $100. See you in January, Cobra!
If they are anything…I mean ANYTHING, like their previous line. A hidden gem for those that like the fairway and willing to take on those longer holes. Align, relax, enjoy a nice approach.
I absolutely love the idea behind the technology, Bio for individuality and cell for structure. The colors are vibrant and the head shapes are in line with what I love about compact looking clubs, the + line really does it for me. I’m sold!
