The iron family from Cobra Golf is extremely robust, and with that plethora of choices comes a new aesthetic option that will surely please even the most discerning golfer. Recently, the debut of the RF Proto iron turned heads with its appearance, and today they are unveiling the entire Copper Series.
The Cobra Copper Series is a new finish, inspired by Rickie Fowler, that will grace multiple sets of irons. In addition to the brand new KING RF Forged MB, the KING Tour and KING Forged TEC each are available.
Before jumping into the new Copper Series finish, we need to tackle the brand new iron to the lineup. The KING RF Forged MB irons are an evolution of the RF Proto irons introduced earlier this year. Each clubhead is forged five times out of 1025 carbon steel to deliver an incredibly soft feel at impact. The face and grooves are CNC milled, and like Rickie’s gamers, the irons are fitted with a tungsten toe weight to create a center of gravity position behind the impact zone for more stability and that pure feeling when struck.
The first question most will think of is how different are they then the original offerings, and the answer is they aren’t. Same high performance and technology packed in those sets are in the new Copper Series options.
The Cobra Copper Series finish is done with a PVD, so there will be some wear. Underneath this look however, is satin, and over time the combination of fantastic copper finish mixed with a worn satin pattern looks very good.
All three of the Cobra Copper Series sets come with Cobra Connect Smart Grips giving players access to shot tracking data powered by Arccos and you will get a 90 day free trial to the Arccos Caddie with purchase.
For our opposite handed readers, both the KING Tour irons and Forged TEC irons are available in both RH and LH, leaving only the KING RF MB Copper as RH only. Each set is offered in 4-PW with the two non-muscle backs also having both a 3 and GW available in custom orders.
The KING RF Forged MB come with the KBS C-Taper 120 steel shafts, while the KING Tour that featured MIM technology, come with the KBS $-Taper 120. The KING Forged TEC have both a steel and graphite option with the KBS $-Taper Lite in steel and the Project X Catalyst 80 in graphite.

If I didn’t have a set that are about 10 months old I’d be ordering for sure
You say that like it’s a valid reason
Trying to convince myself.

I’ve read it twice, not sure how I missed it.
Doesn’t sound like you’ve put any thought into that at all. ?
Us Morgan Cuppers never think about what will be in our bag. Just kind of wing it when ordering time comes ?
Do you mean the limited edition set that they made 500 of globally?
A bit of a different animal than a full line released to the masses at similar cost.
Even still who did it first? I think its cool that Cobra is doing it but let’s not kid ourselves here.

Strange. By that logic, neither did Mizuno.
Who in this thread made the claim that these are the first ever copper color finish irons?
Was mizuno’s finish PVD or copper plating because this is first time I’ve seen a copper pvd finish on any iron.
No sir. They weren’t even planning on releasing them until they put a teaser on social to show “layers of feel” and fans chimed in. They are raw and not very durable.
This whole “argument” is just odd. By this logic this isn’t even the first time Cobra has done it, since REV33 was already done.
Cobras ‘standard’ is already a degree upright from most other manufacturers. ?

I currently play Cobras at 1 degree upright… So you’re telling me they’re really 2 degrees upright compared to other manufacturers. So when I was originally fit for 2 degrees upright and got my Cobras that I was playing 3 degrees upright? No wonder that ball was sailing left all the time. I had compensated for it with a wrist cup at the top of the backswing with my irons so they would go straighter. God help me if I got the amount of cup wrong. Also that bad habit carried over to the driver and it wasn’t pretty.
Wow. Awesome looking.
Do you not like finish options or color choices in other clubs too? Or just copper?
We’ll have to tee it up this year and you can check out the full copper bag ?
Personally prefer silver finish in irons but to each its own. This one seems like a gimmick but will probably sell.
I guess that is my question and am genuinely curious. What is the gimmick? Using a poor analogy isn’t it similar to having choice of color cars, shirts, etc?
Most companies offer wedges in different finishes. Putters in different finishes, irons as well and of course some companies even allow you options of color choices in drivers.
Just not a fan. Convince me they actually improve performance? One might argue copper might give a slightly softer potential feel but I prefer the classic color of most irons. Again to each his own and they will likely sell.
An issue in past with some plated or other color irons that were played is some finishes wore quickly. Don’t have enough info on these to get into that part.
Totally agree. These are really nice looking clubs and I expect to sell quickly to those looking at them.
No one is claiming they enhance performance.
It’s been talked about multiple times they will wear.
People like different colors and that’s fine, but it’s not a gimmick.????
They will wear. Discussed in the article but I dont think anybody is claiming performance benefits are they? It’s an aesthetic choice just as the examples mentioned. Just like some prefer dark be chrome or satin vs oil can. What is the gimmick though, I think I’m missing it?
The gimmick to me is the solely the color. Unless improved performance why make or market it? This of course is just my opinion and they will find some market for it just based on cosmetics am sure.
My thoughts, exactly…
So should cars also come in only one color and trim level? There’s no performance increase if I buy a red car instead of a blue car. Maybe I just like the looks of red better.
Or more relevant to golf – bags come in different colors. A red, white and blue golf bag isn’t going to do anything that the plain black version doesn’t already do. Should they just quit marketing all those different colors, or is there maybe a reason to have them because different people like different things?
Any golfer can surely buy what they want and should – my point is I would not personally buy any club due to color unless was a tech advantage. I own one club as a wedge not that is silver and that is a wedge designed purposely to rust which may provide a spin advantage. Cobra will surely find a market for these I expect as copper is handsome.
