Back in January, we got a look at the new Cobra KING Tour irons with MIM technology at the PGA Show. Then a couple of months later, a pandemic happened that changed the landscape of the golf industry. Today, these irons that have been often discussed, but not available, become official.
Metal Injection Molding (MIM) technology is not brand new, but we are seeing it more and more due to the precision that it creates. Most recently for Cobra, their wedge designs have been gaining in popularity in part due to the precision shaping and overall performance. Unlike traditional forging or casting, MIM manufacturing utilizes few steps to create.
In the case of the Cobra KING Tour irons, a mixture of 304 stainless steel powder is heated and injected into a mold. Heating to even a higher temperature than most forgings, the result, according to Cobra, is a very tight grain structure providing an incredibly soft feel. The MIM process requires only moderate polishing compared to forgings to ensure the shaping is completely consistent.
“We’ve used our MIM process over the past two years to deliver softer and more precisely-shaped designs in our wedges,” said Tom Olsavsky, Vice President of R&D for COBRA Golf.
“Now, in response to demand from better players and our Tour staffers, seeking the same benefits in a full set of irons, our R&D team delivered the KING TOUR Irons. These irons are softer than any forged offerings on the market, and like their wedge counterparts, offer better consistency in shaping for more precision shot-making on the course. While soft feel and consistency are important in the short-game, optimizing these attributes throughout an entire iron set will give golfers better performance across a wider range of shot selections.”
A tungsten weight is positioned in the toe of the club to perfect the center of gravity (CG) directly behind the impact zone. The ability to manufacture this way allows for precision, but also stability. Moving from the toe to the small cavity, a TPU Insert is directly behind the sweet spot to dampen vibrations a bit and enhance the feel even more.
Cobra Connect is still in place and might just be the best value add in golf. Powered by Arccos, the system utilizes smart grips to track your data through the round. Each set comes with a 90 day trial of the Caddie App as well. For the loft peepers spec fans out there, here is a look at the specs.

Give me a few minutes and I’ll post a couple
I think that those look great, still.
I’m very pleased. The wear isn’t bad at all. I have not used one from a bunker YET but that won’t bother me. They shine up well for sure
Tell me your favorite thing about these irons, and why you think they were the best option for your game.
I think they are about the perfect size, they feel fantastic, the durability is crazy good and there is no surprises when it comes to distance. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed them.
They are SO good. Presentation over the ball is pretty damn confidence inspiring as well, for whatever reason.
The Copper opened the door to me loving the presentation of those irons.
I’ll admit I kind of overlooked them in chrome.
I did see @hedley_lamarr08 photos up a few. just curious to see if there are similarities
Interesting that the sole is holding up a TON better than i expected, even with the strikes of not-clean balls showing through.
I had a lesson the other day and my instructor couldn’t stop hitting them. Loved the way they looked and felt. They just want to be hit!
So basically, you’re going to create the perfect triangle wear pattern over the next few months.
Got it. That’s sweet.
I really like how that is wearing. That was one of my biggest questions but man that actually looks pretty good.
They are a heavy dense hit for sure! Super addicting
I went back and forth and back and forth on these vs the FTs and decided I needed the extra help. Now, I wouldn’t change the FTs for anything, I love them…but just always see this thread pop up and think "what if?"
I hit them side by side in the Tech Studio a lot and imo, no.
I like to call it “plush”, it’s an addicting impact feedback for sure. Highly underrated aspect of these, well, the WHOLE design is highly underrated too.
Super addicting, the WHOLE club itself is underrated IMO.
Yup, for sure. They offer pretty much everything most people could want imo
If I wan’t so pleased with my ZX7s that are less than a year old, these Cobras with MIM would be the irons in my bag. I’ve hit them and LOVE the sound/feel.
A glorious finish!
I certainly didn’t get that sense. Visually they are worlds different in my perspective (I much prefer the copper haha), but sound wise I didn’t think a thing of it.
What is the biggest separation between the ZX7 and the King Tours for you?
I love that the King Tours are available in a copper finish as ever since Ping came out with the BeCu Eye 2, I’ve had a soft spot for the copper colored irons but have never owned a set. I didn’t have a launch monitor when I hit them but feel/sound was softer than my ZX7’s and that difference could just be the KBS shaft in the Cobras vs. my DG AMT. I doubt I’d seen any real world performance difference between them on the course but the copper finish combined with the shape of the heads at address is luxurious.
I does not. Same feel. Very little wear on the soles.
Nothing wrong with more copper!
You know what to do next year…
definitely give these a try next year. Not as demanding as you think!
I like the way you boys think – will be working hard on ball striking over the coming months so these are absolutely top of the list to give a much more serious look at. Depending on what else Cobra have up their sleeves of course!
The Maltby measurements are always pretty funny.
So we got a sneak peak, you may be tempted, but the MIMs are legit. Don’t be swayed by the shiny and new…
I think you need to let the three iron see a little bit of course time with it’s friends, preferably if we have a little money on the line
