Back in January, we got a look at the new Cobra KING Tour irons with MIM technology at the PGA Show. Then a couple of months later, a pandemic happened that changed the landscape of the golf industry. Today, these irons that have been often discussed, but not available, become official.
Metal Injection Molding (MIM) technology is not brand new, but we are seeing it more and more due to the precision that it creates. Most recently for Cobra, their wedge designs have been gaining in popularity in part due to the precision shaping and overall performance. Unlike traditional forging or casting, MIM manufacturing utilizes few steps to create.
In the case of the Cobra KING Tour irons, a mixture of 304 stainless steel powder is heated and injected into a mold. Heating to even a higher temperature than most forgings, the result, according to Cobra, is a very tight grain structure providing an incredibly soft feel. The MIM process requires only moderate polishing compared to forgings to ensure the shaping is completely consistent.
“We’ve used our MIM process over the past two years to deliver softer and more precisely-shaped designs in our wedges,” said Tom Olsavsky, Vice President of R&D for COBRA Golf.
“Now, in response to demand from better players and our Tour staffers, seeking the same benefits in a full set of irons, our R&D team delivered the KING TOUR Irons. These irons are softer than any forged offerings on the market, and like their wedge counterparts, offer better consistency in shaping for more precision shot-making on the course. While soft feel and consistency are important in the short-game, optimizing these attributes throughout an entire iron set will give golfers better performance across a wider range of shot selections.”
A tungsten weight is positioned in the toe of the club to perfect the center of gravity (CG) directly behind the impact zone. The ability to manufacture this way allows for precision, but also stability. Moving from the toe to the small cavity, a TPU Insert is directly behind the sweet spot to dampen vibrations a bit and enhance the feel even more.
Cobra Connect is still in place and might just be the best value add in golf. Powered by Arccos, the system utilizes smart grips to track your data through the round. Each set comes with a 90 day trial of the Caddie App as well. For the loft peepers spec fans out there, here is a look at the specs.

Wow, 8k on a 7i…yea, that’s a lot of spin
I get just about 7k on an 8i…with the additional height from previous iron sets I’ve played makes this set ideal for me
Those are good numbers! And, these are marvelous irons!
Now, do you want me to go actually try and swing hard? ?
No, I don’t…I think I pulled a muscle getting the 177y 7i today
I just looked at the numbers again, my spin was a touch higher than yours and my peak height about 10 feet less, but still solid numbers from me today
They have worn really nice as well. I’ll get some pictures outside tomorrow
They are really good.
I hope there are a few. These clubs are definitely surprising (in a good way), but I don’t fault them for going with the new FT’s either, those are very nice.
I am not a low handicapper by any means but I hit these better than any other club, partially because with my swing flaw I needed some loft and spin in my irons and these give me that, with enough forgiveness to still be playable.
I will say they don’t have the same "sweet spot" as a GI or even Players Distance type iron, so if someone is looking for a large sweet spot with a lot of help on miss hits, these are probably not it, but they are on the "forgiving" side of the players iron category
Today I looked and hit them…. ??
Holy softness Batman. And they look incredible at address.
Anyone in the single digits playing these?
Is the soft feel actually a bad thing and covers up poor strikes a bit too well?
I’m not a low handicapper, so I have misses all over the face. I am not sure how far away from center some of these misses are, but I can tell a difference when hit thin, high on the face, or toe very easily…let alone noticeably shorter distance
I must miss way out on the toe
I don’t lose any distance on toe but I never said anything about left hahaha My biggest issue with these iron: over spin. I’m a full 1-1.5 clubs shorter with a ballooning ball flight. Low spin ball and trying to play them lower. I’ve clubbed up and swung easier, played it back and also forward. I’m a 2 degree flat player in Cobra spec. I’m going to find someone to bend them more upright to see if that helps at impact with the loft.
These are great irons. Some of the most consistent irons I’ve hit. Can definitely tell a mishit from flushing it. Pretty forgiving too.
I remember you saying you overspun them…could it be the shafts at all?
Shaft may influence delivery but shafts dont spin the ball. I’m hoping that lie adjustment (ball flight is really accurate minus the overspin) Don’t want to make them stronger in lofts
Fitted irons are great. I will never discount a proper club fitting again

8500 on a 7 iron…?
You weren’t kidding that you could overspin these
Yeah I’ve tried golf balls and all. Lie angle and maybe one degree strong. If that don’t work I’ll move on and maybe revisit them next season.
Curiosity tried to take mine out of the bag but they do everything I want right now. I can’t feather them. The faster I swing the better the results. I think thats my only negative to them. I swing easy with these and hit target. I can blast a 7 iron 175…. go figure (amateur paradise at its finest)
Lol blasting the irons…I hit my 7i 182y yesterday ?…not my normal distance…I then proceeded to hit the 6i 193y…and this is when I thought I was swinging easy…it was insane
I can’t strike them if I swing easy. Hosel rockets for days or I get flippy… I like the 5-8 irons better than the wedges. Easy to launch.
Today I put them on the sim and set up a few targets for warm up before really focusing on driver and FW from TEE. Well the PW which I would say has not been my "favorite" club because I hadn’t hit it squarely much on the course and the distance I was getting wasn’t what I expected in that spot in my bag…well today I hit 5 shots to a 135y pin and carried them all 130-133, with a one bounce check for total distances of 133-136. My 3rd of 5 shots was the best by far, 132 carry, one bounce, stop, 3 feet from the target flag. Yep I’m ready to go flag hunting on the course this weekend
Looking forward to getting these in play and dialing them in for the Morgan Cup.
Got to put my new Cobra King Tour Copper MIM irons in play today for the first time.
As part of the Morgan Cup Paradise Team I ordered a 5-GW set of the King Tour Copper MIM irons with the stock KBS $-Taper 120g Stiff shafts and Lamkin Sonar Wrap Midsize grips.
Coming from very traditionally lofted minimalist Japan Forged blades I was more than a bit apprehensive about how these new clubs would compare to what I’ve been playing.
I should not have been apprehensive.
These clubs look and feel great!
The blade length gets progressively a bit longer as you go from the scoring irons up to the long irons which is the opposite of what I’ve been playing. The top line isn’t thin but it’s thinnish. The transition of the top line from the hosel is very nice as is the transition from the hosel to the leading edge. I especially like the shape of the 8, 9 & PW.
The sole is slightly wider than what I’ve been playing but the clubs still get in and out of the turf nicely due to the design of the slight camber on the sole.
For whatever reason when I was warming up today my first few shots were coming out of the toe. I found that I had to address the ball slightly heel side to hit them out of the middle. After I figured that out I was off to the races.
Had a great day of hitting greens in regulation despite the small, firm and elevated greens. My yardages with the new clubs were spot on with a nice trajectory, good descent angle, excellent stopping power and spin.
Did I mention that they look and feel great too!
My expectations were greatly exceeded by these irons!! Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

they are definitely a highly underrated iron! They look and feel great and incredibly consistent. Enjoy them!
I agree with your assessment.
The Copper finish is very nice. Really enjoying my new set!
I might grab a second set in copper…can’t have too many of these irons
These seem to be a very underrated option from the last 2 years.
very underrated!
You should do it. They are excellent and have a lot more forgiveness for the iron than you would think.
I want to go with a smaller profile and more traditional lofts and these seem to be the most forgiving option out there and also every review and this thread says feels great, consistent distance, nice spin to hold greens. I am already playing the PW as a GW with Recoil 95’s and it’s my favorite club. I think with the set I would blend upward from there with my LTDx till they got too rich for my blood and go with that setup.
Sounds like a good plan!
Thats a good buy. They are worth more than that on trade at DSG right now. The local guy is trying to pry mine away so he can get them on the cheap. I "want" new, but not sure I’ll find "better."

That’s a steal!
Sounds like a hell of a deal. For that price I’d own a set just because.
Yeah, hard to pass. The seller had them at $600 and kept dropping. I finally made a $350 offer they took. I love Cobra so getting these in is going to be fun.
