When it comes to irons, you would be hard pressed to find a company innovating as much as Cobra Golf. Constantly on the quest of increasing playability, distance, and forgiveness through any means necessary, they are creators in the segment as opposed to followers. While the RADSpeed irons last year checked a lot of boxes, there were some areas that needed to be addressed, and Cobra believes they have done just that.
For the first time, the LTD namesake becomes a full lineup with the addition of irons under the umbrella, and not just any irons. When designing the LTDx, the company wanted to engineer to improve four main areas: Distance, feel, speed, and accuracy. To do this, they brought four innovations to the table, which we will get into momentarily.
First, the LTDx are not going to be mistaken for any type of “players” irons, Cobra has other lines for that, these are the meat and potatoes release, the one that serves to hit the broadest segment of golfers. To do that, there have been some immediate changes aesthetically. There is a slightly thicker and more squared off topline as well as decent offset, but compared to a lot of other GI irons the look is quite streamlined, something Cobra has been gradually improving every single year.
When you look at the pictures, the first thing most will notice is the carbon fiber topline is no more, this isn’t because it didn’t work, but rather twofold. One, it posed an issue when it came to being able to adjust/bend the RAD irons, and second, they found a better way to accomplish their design goals. The overall aesthetic here is modern, it looks fast, but it avoids being too gaudy or abstract.
At the root of the LTDx irons, is PWR-COR. This is taking Radial Weighting to a different level, and Cobra is excited about its potential as they have been about any tech they have developed. This is a multi-layer weighting system inside and out that allows for a more flexible body, face, and sole. Add into that a lower overall CG than ever before, as well as a new elastic rebound effect, and there is a lot to wrap ones head around.
Internally, there is actually a free-floating steel bar within the undercut of the clubhead, this is suspended by using an injected polymer. The polymer helps with feel and dampening, while the steel bar not only takes the CG lower than ever for Cobra, but it centers it within the clubhead. Putting that much mass here and suspending it means you get the weighting benefits while also allowing the face to flex more than ever, and that means distance.
We cannot forget about PWRSHELL, however. Cobra was the first to use the L-Cup face that is PWRSHELL and they have implemented it across their other lines and into hybrids as well. Present in the 4-7 of the LTDx irons, using variable thickness they now have a 23% larger thin area in the L-Cup which means more speed and more consistency across the face. Overall, they are seeing a 5% increase in overall face deflection, which means more speed, and more distance. All this really shines high on the face and Cobra is reporting up to 7 yards more compared to RADSpeed.
The LTDx irons are finished off with dully CNC Milled faces and grooves, making for a premium look in combination with the rest of the design flexing its technological muscles. Yes, they are playing off a stronger than last year 41.5° PW and they absolutely know that will send the anti-loft-jacking army into a dither, but they don’t care. Fact is, with this much weight low in the head producing what the company believes is one of the absolute lowest CG’s in any GI iron on the market, the loft had to come down. What you get is a mix of pure distance, with an iron that can still elevate easily and remain playable into greens, no matter the number on the loft.
The LTDx will come in a chrome finish with “Gold Fusion” accents and are available in 4-PW with option set GW and SW. Additionally, Cobra is offering a combo set that is 5H, 6-GW. Stock steel is the KBS Tour 90, with graphite the KBS PGI.
Now to the big question, will there be ONE Length? Absolutely. The LTDx ONE Length irons have the same chrome finish as the variable length, but with Blue/Red accents instead. The ONE Length are available in 4-PW with an optional GW. Like the variable set, there is also a combo set option consisting of a ONE Length 5H accompanied by 6-GW irons. The steel option is a variable setup with KBS Tour 80 4-6, Tour 90 7-9, and Tour 120 in the wedges. Graphite option is the KBS PGI.
TESTED
If you have made it this far in the technology conversation, you are ready to hear how they perform. We jumped into the THP Tech Studio and put them to the test and in this video, you will see the swings and then we breakdown the data.
The Details
The new Cobra Golf LTDx and LTDx ONE Length irons will be available 2/11/22. Steel shafted setups will be priced at $899 with combo sets and graphite sets coming in at $1,099.

Love it!
I just don’t’ hit hybrids well. The 4i performs very well for me and slots right in where I want it between my 5i and 5W. And give me versatility on lies that wouldn’t be appropriate for a FW.
Curious about these. I have the F9 OL. Aside from the jacked lofts, is there really that much difference in them? Is there enough improvement to be worth contemplating switch? I’d be looking at probably 7(?), 8 (definitely) – GW.
I’m very interested to see what Cobra does with the one length irons in 2023.

Those look real nass like! They remind me of TM’s Burner 2.0’s in a way.:D

I’ll be moving from TM Burner 3.0 (DSG / GG exclusive), pretty sure they had same specs as the 2.0s, to these LTDx. Can’t wait!
So did I read it right that no one from 2022 MC went with these? Everyone went Forged Tec?
I’ll be getting mine tomorrow. Hope to provide some good feedback on these, regardless of if they are going to be a previous release in the coming weeks

I believe that’s correct. Forged Tec X’s were so good that people opted for those instead of LTDx.

Same here, not sure how often Cobra does updates or new versions for the OL irons.

Picked up my wife 5-UW with men’s regular kbs graphite shafts. I can’t wait to try them next spring. May just open my eyes to what these kind of irons can do for my game and finally push me towards more forging irons. Looking forward to seeing what Cobra has coming out to replace these

For me the 4i is great. I need all the forgiveness I can get in that section of my bag. But am not a good hybrid player. So it help bridge the gap from my 5i to 5W.
the wedges I liked playing. They took some getting used to. But once I did they were very consistent preformers. Abd ripped the leather off their share of golf balls.
Wow is all I can say about these irons, I only hit a few with my wife’s but holy are they easy to hit long and straight. I really need to put my ego away and give a set like these a try for a season. I would bet money my handicap would come down. After a few swings with them I got over the bigger look at address and once I saw the flight and distance i was in awe

I don’t have the 4i, as I’m quite bad with the 5i as well. I carry hybrids then 5w. As for the SW, it’s one of the clubs under a threat in my bag. Not because it’s bad at all. Quite the opposite. But because I only use it for full shots and it gaps a little too close to my Vokey 56. I might ditch the SW, or not.

Thanks for the feedback on the SW. I find it as potential club to have in the bag, or may need something like a 52 degree wedge
Just will need to hit the gap wedge and see if there are any needs between that and my 56 ??

I really should have been a bit more patient with buying. I bought 5-PW+GW initially. Then just decided after one round that I “need” the SW too, because of how far these go. But as I said, it’s possible I’ll keep it in the bag as the SW is easier to hit full swings than the Vokey 56.
I like your idea of first seeing your gapping and then getting the SW if needed. For MC ’24 I’m thinking of going to separate wedges after GW.

I have found the gapping to be pretty consistent throughout the set. When I ordered I stopped at the Gw also having a SW already.
I wish I had ordered the 4i because the 5 is so easy to hit.
Purchased a set of Cobra LTDx irons from @scratchgolfjourney – looking forward to trying out the new irons when they get here.
From what I’ve read, they are extremely forgiving and that is definitely something I need.

Long irons are the worst part of my game, so I struggle with those. But I do agree, that LTDx is the easiest I’ve ever hit.

for myself, I don’t use it much any more. Buttt it’s not because of the club. My swing just isn’t as in sync as it was when I got it so contact and trajectory has been an issue for me. Actually thinking of selling it and going with a 5 wood. Just like woods better than driving irons.

Some serious distance from the tee with the 9i 😳 Sometimes you just need to play the right club instead of the long sticks (y)
The LTDx irons are very long, and the OL version makes it even more of a learning curve.
The LTDx are quite low spin for me, but I feel like I still have decent stopping power. And they go miles (or kilometers ?)!
Used just 9 iron and gap wedge for last few nines I’ve played. Here’s the preliminary data on the 9 iron ?

?????
Went back to my LTDx irons last week and have been hitting them pretty good. Looks like they will be in the bag for 2023.
While on vacation out in the PNW I played a course called Avalon and had to rent some clubs. I could choose between some Callaway Rogue ST Max’s or LTDx’s. Naturally I chose the Cobra’s and proceeded to shoot the best round of my life (80). I came back home and have since played around 20 more rounds with 225’s and couldn’t ever shake the feeling of how effortless the 80 felt with the LTDx irons.
So…my new set of LTDx’s arrive today. Can’t wait. I can definitely echo what others have said in this thread. If you swing easy, the club does all the work.
Got out to play 9 at my home course today. By no means an easy place. But I put up a 40. Which for me is really, really good. These clubs just have that touch of forgiveness that bridges the gap on my approach shots. I had multiple shots that were mishit that still barely snuck on to the putting surface. Which made all the difference. I know I would have been 5-10 yards off with my 225’s.
These are by no means as svelte as the 225’s at address. Top line is very clearly thicker. But there is just something about these clubs that appeal to my eye. I think I will bag these for the year and see if they can take a chunk out of the handicap.
I was lucky enough to pick some of these up here on THP, can’t wait to get a set of :cobra:back in the bag. And the recoils sound like a perfect pair for them. Haven’t gamed a Cobra set since the F6s so I’m pumped to get them bent and put through the paces!
