At the Grandaddy each year, 12 lucky THPers experience something special, but it comes with a job of reviewing their equipment to the masses through the THP Forum once it is released. This year, there are only 4 THPers for the Grandmama, but they will be doing the job of 12, so we are looking for members who are truly committed to the whole process before, during and after the event. The person that loves to talk about this game, the equipment and share their honest assessment of everything they learn through content and reviews.
Qualifying
You must be a 2020 Albatross Club Member to enter. The club is open to anybody and helps benefit a wonderful charity. All of the details and benefits are here.
The Contest
The Callaway golf ball lineup has been getting rave reviews so far and we want to hear from you. Would you choose the Chrome Soft or the Chrome Soft X, and why?
How to Enter
Give us 50 words or less on your golf ball of choice from their lineup. If you have played them, consider this a mini review. If you haven’t yet, that is okay, tell us why you think it is the right ball for your game.
Good luck everybody. This contest will remain open for about a week.
Chrome soft X would be my choice as it ticks all the boxes I look for in a gamer. The highlight of penetrating ball flight is key for me as mine tend to skyrocket. Keeping my ball somewhere within the sky limit and the fairways would lower my scores.
Last year, I began playing the triple track CSX??. As long time TP5 player, this was the last thing to be converted to Callaway in my bag.
I am happy to say that the 2020 Chrome Soft X is my ball. Better in every category for me. It’s that good
I like the firmer feel and the higher spin rate on full shots. Plus I feel like I get some higher ball speeds out of it with driver. Awesome having some Truvis options as well.
Also, my (non-entry) answer is chrome soft because triple track. That is all you need to know!
Nanas are always talking about hot, nasty, badass speed!
messy choice for me 2020 CSX. A firm 4-piece ball with a layer specifically designed to make the ball feel soft, low spin bombs off the tee, spin around the greens, and what has to be an fantastic feel off a milled putter. Consider me sold.

The Chromesoft series performs exactly how you expect a tour ball to perform. It’s long, workable, and spins like a dream. It feels and sounds like the precise piece of engineering it is. The Chromesoft series leads in innovation, and with improvements every year, Callaway will widen the gap.

Chrome Soft has piercing flight and accuracy to fit the ball in any window (even if Phil has to tilt his head).
This ball has incredible spin and a buttery soft feel that makes even Nest-ers stammer Na -Na-Na -Na. It can do anything; maybe even #SaveSizzle
I have golfed Chrome Soft balls for years, I have bought other balls in the past based off of hype, distance, and control. But they always seem to come up short to the CS. For me it creates more distance, but has excellent control 100 yards and in. Even though the CSX sounds intriguing I think I will always just stick with regular CS.
I play the Chrome Soft, because it spins when you want it to, and doesn’t spin when you don’t want it to… Somehow, they have made The Ball that changed The Ball even better…
My swing is a tweener. I’m neither fast nor slow. I can use all the green side help and elevation in my ball fight as possible. The CS is that ball that suits me best and sure to elevate my game.
The right softness, good spin when I want it and distance is not a problem for this gem.
The Chrome Soft in Yellow Truvis is the ball for me. My swing is more deliberate, lately, and I can count on both the distance and the spin exactly when I need it. The ball that changed the ball just changed the ball……AGAIN!
Entry:
I will choose the chrome soft X. The prior generation had potential so I would like to see the feel be a bit firmer and better control with spin. Reviews to this point have all been very positive and intriguing enough in improvement to play again.
Ball produces a nice solid, firm feel on full swing shots with seemingly lower spin than many other tour level balls. Distance, for me, is on par with other balls in it’s class. Short game and putting is where I really sense the soft feel of the ball.
I have not played Callaway balls since the Blue Dots, which were amazing back in the day. I would choose Chrome soft x, because the profile is closest to my current gamer.
Hopefully, I can have the opportunity to be converted, and share my experience.
The Chrome Soft X is absolutely the ball for me. You can talk all about the distance off the tee, but the iron consistency is where it’s at. Being able to dial in the approach yardage? Birdie putts ALL DAY!
