It is an all expenses paid trip of a lifetime.

At the Grandaddy each year, 12 lucky THPers experience something special, but it comes with a job of reviewing their equipment to the masses through the THP Forum once it is released. This year, there are only 4, but they will be doing the job of 12, so we are looking for the committed. The person that loves to talk about this game, the equipment and share his honest assessment of everything they learn through content and reviews.

The Taylor Made M4D was made for golfers just like me. We’re the weekend hacks that have problems hitting the ball right and this was a big help. It turns a weak fade straight and helps limit the banana hook. The sound is not overly aggressive, but you can tell it’s a composite. Well struck balls are long but the twist face does allow it to maintain good distance and some accuracy on off center hits. The loft adjustability is a great feature giving up to 4* of loft. In testing several different drivers, this one has stayed.
I am currently playing the Ben Hogan GS53 driver with a Lin-q Purple shaft, with an average driver swing speed of 100-105 . This combination has been a fairway finder for me since getting it. I average around 240-245 carry distance off the tee but get a lot of great roll out as well. Control is my main focus in a driver and I receive that pretty much every time I play with this setup. The Ben Hogan lineup isn’t as popular as others but this club is a must try for the people looking to find fairways.
Do you hit the ball long and straight down the fairway? Same but atleast I look good when I slice one out there. There is something about a milled face, whether it’s a putter or any other club that brings joy when looking down on it. It strikes a level of confidence and if I strike one pure it is one of the greatest sounding drivers of all time. My first new driver since the Taylormade Burner from 2008 is the Cobra F9, it took this long to find a worthy successor and boy was it worth the wait.
I’ve been gaming the Mavrik for a few months now, and I have certainly gained some distance I had recently lost. For the first time ever, I can say the driver isn’t automatically a crap shoot for me, and those that have played with me a lot can say that is no small thing. I think its Callaway’s best sounding driver since the Optiforce Line. It looks good at address, it inspires confidence and lets you know when you catch the middle. What’s your take on the Mavrik if you’ve used it, and if not, what’s stopping you?
Absolutely! The suspense is killing me!
This is an awesome gesture and a huge congrats to whoever is selected. I will definitely be following along for the journey!
My Driver is the M5 and has been for just over a year now. I had been a Taylormade man for more than 15 years before buying a Ping G Series in 2015. I was custom fit for the M5 on behalf of Taylormade Injected Speed Experience last summer. I picked up fairways hit, a slight draw and also more distance than this 62 year old man should have. I have tried a Cobra, a Ping and a Mizuno since then and the Taylormade is still in my bag. 12 deg, low 2k in spin. Change my MIND!
They say drive for show and putt for dough. And while the putter is the most used club in your bag, the driver is what sets up all the other clubs. If the driver is not on, there will be no “putting for dough”. More likely putting to make bogie or worse.
My Callaway Mavrik is the jumper cable to my game. If it is on, hitting fairways and cutting the corners of doglegs, my playing partners know they are in trouble. I find it plenty forgiving and seriously long off it’s A.I. face. Makes me smile.

I’ve saved a bit of money filling my bag with clubs one or two years after their release. That is the case with the 2016 Taylormade M2 driver I am currently gaming. It replaced the 2007 Burner driver that served me well for many years. One thing I noticed right away with this driver is the increase in distance over my old driver. I’m not a big hitter by any means, but the difference was noticeable. It also seems to be a bit more forgiving. My miss is generally a wicked slice, but now it seems much less severe.
Seeing an increase in distance as well do to better face closure. Also… the sound of it is fantastic. Can tell if you miss hit it, but is solid especially on well struck shots.
To summarize, forgiving, some help on reducing fade/slice, long, good looking and sounding. I am in love. In fact, playing in our 5 club tournament tomorrow, and am changing up my setup to make sure I have this in play.
I don’t play a Mavrik driver, it isn’t as good.
Haha
Shaft: Tensei Blue
I bought this driver, sight unseen for no other reason than I just wanted something new. I lottery lucked out. I have never had a head and shaft combo load for me like this one. I’ve never felt more comfortable with a driver in my hands until I started gaming this club. I still have my misses and bad shots but I no longer swing a driver with fear as my initial feeling. I swing this club with as much confidence as any other club in my bag and, for me, that’s HUGE.
I really don’t change drivers that often but when I do it’s because of something special that my current driver didn’t have. My Ping G400 Max driver delivered on all phases of testing vs my old driver. It has great looks with the turbulators on the crown and serving a dual function as an aiming tool. The Alta shaft fits me well. The forged face is an added plus because of the added pop I get off the face, however the best part is the effortless distance and it’s fairway finding ability and forgiveness that sold me.
We are actually going to announce tomorrow, but yes, it is going to be a great day.
Good luck everyone!
