The LPGA is back in action and we wanted to discuss whether or not our readers and forum members watch. There is no right or wrong answer, but give us your thoughts below.
Sports for many is the connection with athletes that do what appears to be impossible. While professional golfers of all tours are playing a “different game” than most amateurs, often times, the LPGA lacks the same kind of passion (by fans) and of course coverage.
Do you watch? If so, why? If not, why not?

Huge break for Popov on 15 missing the fairway bunker.
Hard to believe she was caddying for an LPGA player just a few weeks ago and not even in the top 300 ranking!
Glad to see an underdog get the win. Lotta poise and a little bit of luck…congrats, Sofia Popov!
Great stuff again from the LPGA. Well played Popov!
One hell of a win for Popov. Major champion after being a caddy last week. I love golf stories like this.
That was pretty cool! Only in the field because they couldnt fill it due to corona virus? Survived the weather days on Thursday and Friday, then shoot -7 on the weekend.
What a legendary win. An unknown player with no status whatsoever winning a Major Championship, and not barely but by a lot. She dominated a world class field. To me this win ranks right up there with Francis Ouimet winning the 1913 US Open; lots of similarities between the two. I hope the sports media covers this story and gives Sophia Popov her due.
That was an awesome tournament, what a win by Popov! Love seeing underdogs win like that and she dominated in brutal conditions.
Jasmine Suwannapura and Minjee Lee both made a good charge at it, but Popov held them off. Fun win to watch, great storyline behind her win.
I watch the LPGA whenever I can and venue can be a determining factor. I’ve noticed over the years more attention is being paid to the skills part of the game and I enjoy watching the technical part of the game especially approach shots, the short game and putting. I realize it’s not the PGA (the BIG tour) but there is a lot of talent on LPGA. Also the play on LPGA allows the average golfer see the game played in a matter closer the their perspective.
I watch more PGA because it’s more available, but I actually prefer the LPGA. I learn more watching the ladies. Most of the ladies play faster than the men. Not all, but most. It kills me watching the pros (who’ve played golf since they were knee high) discussing a shot for 5 minutes. This after the caddies have walked the course. They’ve played practice rounds and have notebooks!!:rolleyes: Also, the LPGA commentators aren’t nearly as annoying. The PGA commentators are ‘know it alls’ who’ve never missed a shot and won every tournament they ever played in or at least that’s how they talk and they never everrrrr stop talking!!! I wish the LPGA was on more.
No not really, I try but it’s few and far between
Have they always used a backstop behind the ‘island’ green on the par-5 18th at the ANA Inspiration?

As far as I know yes.
I don’t seek out LPGA events to watch but when I come across them, I am captivated by the quality of play and strong competition.
I wish this stupid Safeway coverage would hurry up and get over so I can get back to watching the ANA. My girl Georgia Hall is -3 through 8 and I can’t even watch it…

I guess it’s usually a grandstand. It completely changes how the hole is to be played, though.

It’s always had a large grandstand behind the green on #18. I guess the only reason they put the blue backdrop up this year is to give the golfers the same view from the fairway as there was with the grandstand there.
On another note – I can’t get used to calling this tournament the ANA Inspiration; it will always be the Dinah Shore to me.

It was awesome to watch my girl Georgia Hall win the Cambia Portland Classic last night after the US Open was over. Took her two extra holes but she got it done.
Enjoying more LPGA prime time coverage this week with the Mediheal.
One thing I did notice watching tonight was Lauren Kim using a Cure putter. I don’t recall seeing any other Cure putters in use on any of the professional tours.

yeah, i saw that…seemed very out of place in the sea of common putters.

They are definitely different. Tried them a few different times and couldn’t get over the massive head size or the sound.
Absolutely. Good looking ladies with beautiful swings and lots of game.

I too have noticed that they’re more pleasing to the eye.
RE Cure Putters. 3-4 years back a golfing website inadvertently listed them for $49.99 for a couple hours. They honored all the one piece orders at that price (MSRP was like 249-299). I lucked out as I bought me one (didn’t like it) and dad one (shipped to his house, 2 orders) but cancelled all those looking to order multiples to flip. The PGA store trade in for “used” was like $85 at the time.
I hated mine, dad loves his and putts great (for him) with his still.
the LPGA needs to work on it’s coverage deals, tho…
I really enjoy watching the LPGA when they are offset from the PGA tour. Its a real relatable game as they drive the ball about the same as I do and play the same lengths I play.
I don’t. But I don’t watch the men often either. Majors for sure but the regular tour is so repetitive after years of seeing it

I’m pretty similar except I’ll occasionally watch the LPGA if it is one of their majors as well.
I’ve never watched LPGA. I would like to start soon though.
I do when an American lady is in contention, so not very often.
Since getting back into golf this year, i watch whatever i can pga lpga kornferry all of it whatever is on when i am taking a break or working out. Love it all
Have watched them some but since they are going to let men play with them I won’t be watching now.
It’s better than watching Bryson vs. Brooks for sure.
I prefer to watch the LPGA. I definitely can relate better to their game and distances they hit each club, as a 70-year old. The fact that they often use all of their clubs, like I do, is refreshing and real. Too often the PGA golfers only seem to hit their driver, wedge, and putter over and over again. There usually is not much variation. I appreciate their skill and talent, but, as I said, I relate far more to the women’s game. And, I appreciate the personalities and lack of ego issues of the LPGA players, in contrast to what I often hear and see while watching the guys.
More guys have LPGA swing speeds than PGA swing speeds, but won’t admit it. Their swing tempos are something to take note of.
I’ve been watching the women whenever I can.
Their distances are similar to mine and they have great tempos.
There are some longer hitters on the LPGA, but on a whole, their style of play is closer to what I’m faced with when I play, and they play courses about the same length as I do. 6100-6500 yrds.
Driver 225-250. 145-150 7iron.
Of course, their technique is much better than mine or my group or 4 to 10 caps.
That’s the reason I watch them
Absolutely. Watching the replay of the match play as I type this.
Always love watching the Solheim cup and Women’s NCAA as well.
