We all have visual preferences and things we believe we like or dislike. Be it top line, offset, visual technology vs clean. Taking this discussion a step further, and let’s assume for the sake of conversation, you are giving something up (you most likely are) in some area.
How many strokes would you be willing to give up to feed your personal preferences during the course of a round?
I’m sure I’m giving up something now without knowing it. But let’s say I’d put better with a long putter, I’d probaly still give up a few strokes to not use a long putter. I just don’t like the looks of them.
I want to say zero, but I don’t say that under the belief that my current setup is optimized and I couldn’t gain any strokes by switching something up. I think, as much as I hate to admit it, that ignorance plays as big a part as anything (for me) when it comes to leaving scoring improvements out there. Yes, I have preferences, but I don’t believe I’m willing to sacrifice strokes just to feed my ego/preferences.
