For those paying attention, after a couple early bumps in the road, Ben Hogan Golf is rolling right now. Not only embracing the direct to consumer market but thriving in it thanks to the consistent blend of popular technological design meeting classic throwback looks. If you are going to survive in the D2C realm, you have to move with the ever-changing current that is golf equipment, but for the new Hogan, they must still stay within the lines of tradition the name entails.
So where to go to further round out the company’s offerings? Honestly, they have it pretty well covered, but it was past time for an update when it comes to the utility club. Now, don’t get me wrong, the Ft. Worth Hi was a heck of a club, and it blended perfectly with what the company was doing at the time in terms of the Ft. Worth irons, but four years later as the irons have evolved so too must the utility.
So, allow us to introduce the Ben Hogan UiHi utility club. This go around, Hogan is keeping it much tidier and simpler, in a good way. The UiHi utility club is aimed to serve as a 3, 4, and 5 replacement hitting the 18°, 22°, and 26° lofts. According to the company, the goal was to create a utility that not only flowed with any of their irons but are engineered to perform in an easy-to-hit manner with the same controlled swing golfers excel with in the short irons.
The UiHi is naturally a hollow body design with a profile that is larger than your typical iron in order to make the typically more daunting long irons seem more playable to a lot of golfers. Naturally, with such a club the name of the game is low and back CG thanks to the hollow design allowing manipulation of a lot of mass. With that, Hogan is talking the talk when it comes to easy launch meeting ample forgiveness.
Through the initial release images, I think it is safe to say aesthetically there won’t be many people with a bone to pick this go around. Everything about the UiHi seems meticulously thought out just as we have seen with the recently released ICON irons. Much as the ICON’s blend visually with the PTx, the UiHi seem to mesh perfectly with both sets. In fact, they are going to make it even more possible for golfers to create their ultimate blended set, something Hogan will be soon offering.
More importantly, staying in line with the company’s direct sales pricing, the new UiHi comes with a $110.00 price tag which is significantly more palatable than pretty much any other utility iron out there. With more on the new Ben Hogan UiHi utilities to come very soon to the THP community, be sure to let us know below just what you think based on the initial information.
It really does. Might be the best looking utility I’ve ever seen, just from pics alone
Really looking forward to what you think!
Add in the current 10% coupon and it’s even crazier.
Not sure if he used that. He just sent me a copy of his paid receipt.
Since they’re offering the UiHi as part of a combo set blending into the PTx Pro, im betting the UiHi.
Can’t wait for mine to ship. 3rd week is the charm!
I asked him that specific question as soon as they were released. He said the UiHi launched a little higher and are a little more forgiving. Sounds like a win-win to me. I am definitely going to demo when they hit the program. That will determine whether I go 4, 5 in UiHi or 5 UiHi and 4 VKTR+. Hoping they offer the same demo package with these as previously with Ft. Worth Hi/VKTR (1 of each).

Thank you sir….I just signed the deal on the 18 deg with the UST 780 shaft
Nice I’ve got a 22 on order as well, now the waiting game.
Some decent pricing as well.
Will be a new thread in a few days for a formal review. Imma leave you hanging until then….
Maybe.
I am awaiting mine to arrive NOW……still waiting for that Shipped email
Me too! Nothing yet, ordered on 5/9 and not a whisper of a possible ship date yet. I’m sure it was a pretty popular item and I’m sure most of us customized it to our specs….
Site yesterday said 25 days, I got mine on Tuesday when it was still 29 days.
You’ve got a while to wait. I ordered the 5th of May and received this Tuesday.
I guess I shouldn’t have sent you one for review : )
Oh it’s going to be put to good THP use.
*Sigh* thanks
Site says as of 6/4 the lead time is 25 days
So very interested in this one. I ordered mine in the 18deg with the same shaft option as you received
Well, its a bit of a interesting thing for me. LOTS of positives, and really just one quasi-negative. But we will get to that.
I’ve got FOUR rounds on the 22° since getting it Tuesday night, and a lot of swings, so shall we?
1) The look. THE LOOK IS FANTASTIC. Not a ton of junk in the trunk at setup, a look that blends with the rest of the set, and a general address look that is balanced an not cumbersome. This is in no way shape or form a clunker, and even the most discerning eyes will be at ease setting this one up. I’m super taken aback by how significant the cavity on the rear is though, and not in a negative light, its made for some clever weight manipulation and placement imo.
2) FEEL FOR DAYS boys! FEEL FOR DAYS! Impact with this one is giggle inducing for me, I blocked the HECK out of my first swing and it STILL induced an "oh wow" from me. I have hit a lot of utilities, its a bit of an addiction for me, and the closest comparison that I can give you all is the Srixon U85, and that is a BIG compliment. No click, no clack, no harsh, no odd, no off-putting, just plush.
3) Ball flight is really easy for me, and I’m not the highest ball hitter, however I’m not as low ball as some on here like to believe, no LM time yet but this one is peaking around 31-32 yards for me I would guess. Bigger piece of that, the sole design on this one makes it even more playable, Its got some get up and go.
4) Distance I can’t give you any specific numbers on, but I have rifled it into a few greens from 220 ish with no issues. Will get some GC2 numbers this week, I do know that it slots right under the PTx Pro 5i very well.
5) My onnnnnnly nitpick isnt the club at all, its the fit. I didn’t want to put steel in the 4U so my flex options were limited. I have a hard time finding the face in the swing with the 780 as its never been a great design for my personal swing. Easy fix with time, but for now, I’m going to rock this one and get you all some data soon.
If you have Q’s, ask, please, jump in and lets make some legit golf gear talk!
I’m pretty excited to get my 18* in hand, it should arrive Tuesday. I’m glad to hear that the back profile is demure, that is my one gripe with the Srixon’s that while functional, the back is noticeable. Also stoked that this one has the V-sole as I’m interested to see how it compares…the Srixon is a wide sole and they chose to leave V-sole out. Feel on the Ptx Pro is quite nice and can’t wait to hit the UiHi!
I too ordered the Recoil 780F4 as it is the closest match, however I have been pre-pondering replacements. As explained by Danny at the graphite challenge the SMACWrap tech is great for reducing vibration on off-center strikes, and as such the shaft is targeted toward golfer that needs help with that miss, i.e. lower-mid on up handicaps to generalize. That makes it a great choice as the stock offering in this club, where one graphite option needs to appeal to the widest range possible. If you have a higher swing speed and live closer to center, a golfer might benefit from something with a stronger profile like a Recoil 95 or 95 Proto, etc.
This discussion has me piqued to for next week, to say the least.
Fantastic feedback. Hogan irons are near the top of my mind if I get another set of irons (damn rev33 and mim tour irons constantly saying buy me and p7tw saying me me me).
For the sole design it looks like there is vsole in Utility. Do you think that helps at this lower lofted club?
Does this club feel more like an extension of your irons or a hot flat faced hybrid?
Tee vs turf? While at 22* this should still be pretty manageable for both, do you think the 18* is going to be more of a tee only club.
Besides limited shaft/grip options, what is your biggest complaint?
Biggest surprise of the club? To me I’m shocked at how well it blends with the rest of the set right now. Maybe in hand I would notice more, but it really looks like this could be a great setup that gears short, mid, and long irons for perfection.
Sounds promising to get a little more distance and flexibility out of the 4i spot.
When did you order? It’s a 25 day window right now.
Bump for the morning crowd!
1) V-sole makes EVERYTHING better. I’ve said on Range Days before, if I had my way, every iron would have it.
2) Built like an iron, feels like an iron. I’ve never had a utility that game the feels of anything other than an iron, and I’ve got way too many in my hoard right now.
3) All work so far off deck. That always tells the greater story in a utility imo because they can all be utilized easier off a tee. I can’t speak on the 18 as I know for me that’s a loft I historically haven’t been able to maximize a utility.
4) Looks, sound, performance, I have no complaints, for me the only hiccup is a fitting issue.
5) I can’t believe how well it blends, the flow is pretty fun to see, and I’ve got a group some pic up in the Players Combo thread that shows it.
Thanks for reading and more importantly jumping in the convo!
It’s that same just, pure, feel. It’s power, precision, all of it, and addicting as heck.

It is, super close, just longer heel to toe which you’d want and expect in a utility, ya know?
