New irons from Callaway Golf are coming out and both sets are being billed as their most advanced iron line ever created. Epic and Epic Pro are bearing the name of their extremely popular driver line that launched back in January and screaming with technology. The story goes that a few years ago, Callaway CEO Chip Brewer spoke with the head of R and D, Dr. Alan Hocknell and asked “If you could design the very best iron that you would play, if you wanted maximum performance without any limits to the cost or engineering process, what would that be?”.
Fast forward to now and the announcement of the new Epic line of irons from Callaway. THP TV sat down with Nate Adelman from the Fitting Room Podcast to have him go over the different features in this THP exclusive first look.

Features and Benefits
Next-Generation 360 Face Cup Technology for Longer Average Distance
Advancing the industry-leading face technology that made Callaway the #1 Iron in golf, the rim of the Face Cup is 1 mm at its thinnest point to add even more ball speed on center hits and further minimizing distance loss on off- center hits.
Exo-Cage for Energy Lensing and Maximum COR
Exo-Cage head construction stiffens the body to allow the face to take on more of the load of impact. This is known as “Energy Lensing” – it promotes faster ball speed for longer distance, and it helped raise the COR in Epic Irons right up to the limit in each iron. We’ve never reached that level of speed in a full set.
Multi-Material Standing Wave To Optimize CG Location
Multi-material construction demands strict tolerances, seamless fit and secure bonding. Epic Pro Irons are precision- milled and robotically welded, and every iron in this set is uniquely constructed for maximum integrity and optimum performance. Incorporating tungsten in the Internal Standing Wave allowed Callaway engineers to precisely position the CG in each individual iron. This includes a lower CG for easier launch and long carry in the long irons, higher CG in the short irons for a lower, more controllable flight, and left-to-right CG control in tandem with the hollow hosel.
The Details

Price: $250 per iron available in 3-AW (SW available in standard Epic set)
It’s always interesting to see what companies can do when you take the reins off a bit – that $250 price point is probably outside my range but now I’m REALLY dreaming of a spot in the Grandaddy. The injection molded ,MIM component is a really cool piece of engineering.
Nice looking irons, and a ton of tech packed in there. It’s interesting to see Callaway going after the high end market, hopefully it works out for them.
It amazes me what goes into making an iron. Custom pieces, 360
Cup, eco-cage. The technology being produce will so improve people games in terms of wayward shots. Well done Callaway for always thinking ahead.
Hello beautiful!! Those things look fantastic and the tech is pretty interesting. Will have to get out and swing these a bit and see what it’s all about!
The video told the tech story perfectly! I’ve seen other oems try this high end release BUT no one packs this much tech. Great looking set for anyone that can afford them.
The amount of tech that went into these are amazing. Really looking forward to hitting these
Helloooo technology!
These sound like they’ll be fun to hit with all that tech jammed in there. No holds barred design is always exciting!
Technology advancements have allowed the average golfer to experience some great offerings from golf manufacturers. I like all that i saw in that video and I’m curious to see what the distance gains are with the exo-cage and the weighting. At $250 a piece, it might scare off some potential players, but in line with other OEM’s with premium iron offerings on the market today.
Been waiting for these! Can’t wait to give them a try. If they are anywhere near to as good as the Epic driver they will be a huge success!!
Great looking iron. Can’t wait to get a chance to swing one when they hit stores. $250 a piece is a bit steep, but if they perform like the epic woods, then i would say it’s worth it.
$250 per iron?? Hahaha. Those things are fugly and extremely overpriced.
A lot of tech with the Exo Cage and the look is okay, but at $250 a piece it will definitely cater to a different crowd.
Packed with technology but $250 an iron?! Wow! I can’t help but to wonder if the higher priced irons that have made their appearance over the last few years is driving other OEM’s to up their price a little bit to compete. Either way I guess the more technology there more it’s gonna cost! Looking forward in seeing what the reviewers think.
Great tech, specifically the Exo Cage in these irons. That price point is high though, but Epic has been epic, looking forward to demoing these.
The irons look great, the tech sounds fantastic, the price point? Ridiculous.
Wow, I do really like the look of these, and I bet they are awesome to use. The price point is in another zip code for me though.
Not a big fan of the look. To me they look too much like the BB irons. I think the Apex look much better. People will still buy them due to the tech.
Whole lotta tech going into these irons. Very interesting. Look like they’ll be a lot of fun to hit. Definitely going to have to give these a look.
A whole lot of tech but will it lower my handicap? If it lowers my handicap to 1 then maybe I’ll start saving up for it.
