.. so thats my motorcycle riding and golf playing ruined for a while!! I dislocated my left knee, 4 times, on Saturday in an accident at home and now have a week in a splint and on crutches whilst the bruising and swelling go down until the specialist tells me what out look is.
Anyone had this injury before and returned to golf etc... how long were you out of action for etc etc?

Must explain... 4 times was because after slipping on the loft ladder and having my leg go through the rungs whilst i twisted and went the other way, i had a period of recovery and thought i could make my way downstairs and then to Hospital without it going again. Bad mistake... one little twist off centre and i was down again looking at a foot pointing nearly 180 degrees away from the top of my leg. Not a nice view, coupled with the pain!!

Sorry to hear about your injury. Hope you recover quickly!

OUCH! I have had two knee surgeries and the last one as recently as September. One of my problems was my kneecap had become detached and had to be stitched back in place along with the lateral mucsle had to be repaired. Other stuff had to be done but we won't go into that. A good orthopedic doc can fix you up but I bet since you had a good bit of damage it may take up to six weeks with some physical therepy to help you get your strength back. Good luck buddy and I feel for ya!

Thanks for that... just have to leave myself in the hands of the national health service here in the UK!!
I think it will take longer to get back to my motorcycle trials riding than it does a bit of golf!! meanwhile i will have to become an armchair expert here in front of my iMac :)

That gives you plenty of good THP time :thumb:... Seriously good luck with your recovery and I hope you get to see a doc soon!

you dislocated your kneecap? i've had that happen a few times. you have one fairly large tendon that comes off of the quad and "holds" the knee cap in place. you're gonna have to strengthen that sucker back up. the down the line problem is that you will probably see other knee problems as a result of this (prolly see some meniscus damage). i use to enjoy motorcycling (enduro/motocross/street bikes) quite a bit but knee issues forced me out of it. just take it easy and DO NOT rush anything.

I hope you have a speedy recovery R2! At least you won't have to shovel any snow. :)

Dude, I'm SO sorry for your accident. I played football (American) for 11 years. I used to carry crutches in my car trunk because I used to get hurt SO often. The end result after all those years? Two broken ankles (1 each left and right), shin splints both legs, 4 knee operations (the last being a total knee replacement), 3 fractured ribs, 8 cracked ribs, both shoulders separated, chipped teeth, broken nose at least 5 times, a couple hundred stitches, more than a few concussions and a partridge in a pear tree.

It's been 4 years since my knee replacement. I could barely play golf that first summer. With all my rehab, I can now walk a course IF it's not too hilly. I don't have the flexibility, obviously. But, that has forced me to concentrate on the other parts of my game. I putt much, much better because I couldn't swing full shots for a long time. My short game is okay, not great, but okay. My driving! Oh, boy. I'm 6' 1" and 260 lbs. I used to average about 270-280. Now I'm lucky if I average 250-260. I'm going to concentrate on ball striking this year. I hope that better ball striking will improve my fairways hit and increase my length. I'm sure that it will help my iron play.

I can only say to follow your doctor's recommendations and orders. If you have any doubts, get a 2nd opinion. And work diligently on your rehab! I still work on my flexiblity every day! BTW, my wife will not let me get another motorcycle. She says that I don't have enough life insurance for that!!!

After having a total of 4 knee surgeries, the two things I can recommend are ....
1. follow the doctors orders for rest and immobilization.
2. don't try to cheat on the rehab. Do the exercises as perscribed by your therapist and do them all.

As for recovery time? It really depends on the severity of the injury.
I dislocated my left knee while sliding in to 3rd base.
It was terribly painful but it didn't require surgery and I was only out of action for about 2 weeks.

Good luck and I wish you a speedy recovery !
