I understand some people put wooden dowel into their shaft tips, even mess with various types of wood.
I understand it is a "feel" thing, but what sort of feel does this add? Softer, stable, etc?
Sounds cool.

I could see it acting as a vibration dampener but I've actually never heard of this...

Titleist offer this doweling service in their top irons sets. The hardwood dowel ~ 15/16inch is glued in about 1/2 in from the tip or further up ( allows tip weight if needed), to dampen impact and add feel. A ram rod is used for this and its nothing to do with shaft extension or swing weighting.

What type of feel are they seeking, soft?

ya it seems like that would be the case cuz they said "dampen impact." so ya it looks like they want a softer feel
