Merrill Lynch Shootout [spoilers]

I can't really get excited about this event, but I sorta watched it (had it on in the background.)

Don't really have any comments about the play itself, but what the hell was Scott Hoch doing talking on his cell phone in the middle of a round?!?

Since Hoch didn't go running from the course, I'm assuming it wasn't an emergency. Aside from being a VERY bad example (after all, how often do we tell people to leave their phones in the car at tournaments AND for casual play), it's just flat out impolite to both the other players and to the fans who came out to watch.

Boooo Scott Hoch. Boooo.

Mark Calcavecchia is sporting a new putter today. Once again, he went to a local store overnight and bought a new putter - full retail. (You may recall that he did the same thing during the 2007 PODS Championship, which he won. That time, he went to an Edwin Watts and bought a PING Redwood Anser.)

This time, it looks like he picked up the new PING iWi Anser.

What was the deal with the chef hats?
