I still think WYWH is their masterpiece.

DSM is my favorite but they all have something to give.
They are the one band I would pay a fortune to see reunited.

If they ever did another tour, I'd just hand over my credit card.

This one might be my favorite -
As I have mentioned before - my wife and I say we are the two lost souls swimming in the same fish bowl, swimming over the same old ground year after year from Wish You Were Here
And "Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts 6-9" is just unbelievable. The guitar licks at around part 7 just makes me pause and listen

I still remember when Dark Side of the Moon first came out, my best friend shows up with the album, says "You gotta listen to this!", puts it on, gives me my headphones, and ques up "Time", with some volume.

Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here, were my favorite albums. Loved listening to the dog in Seamus on Meddle (used to drive my dog nuts!).

One of my all time favorite lyrics is from Breathe on Dark Side of the Moon:

For long you live and high you fly
But only if you ride the tide
And balanced on the biggest wave
You race towards an early grave

Nothing like the flying pig

The lyrics of my life were basically written in 'Time':

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

As a teenager, Floyd were number 1 on my list, with DSM and WYWH as the best. Nearly fifty yrars later, mu opinion has not changed. Flying over to Atlanta last month, I found DSM on the playlist and listened to it twice all the way through...……….awesome.

And the Live album from Ummagumma, fantastic. The best scream in rock music is still Waters on Careful with that axe, Eugene.

In my opinion some of my favorite floyd stuff is off the immersion DSM and WYWH. I love the live stuff they have on thaose albums and think they sound fantastic. All of the live stuff was taken from the Wembley 1974 concert. Here is the set list

Shine on you crazy Diamond
Raving and drooling (early version of sheep)
You've got to be crazy (early version of Dogs)
All of DSOM
Echoes

I would have loved to have seen that set. The first 3 songs are on WYWH immersion on DSOM is on the DSOM one. And I agree with what others have said, Loved Floyd in the 80's in High school and still today. Astronomy Domine on Ummagumma is a great song too Leftyuk.

Might have to put some on now!

Just genius..

You say the hill's too steep to climb
Chiding!
You say you'd like to see me try
Climbing!
You pick the place and I'll choose the time
And I'll climb
The hill in my own way
just wait a while, for the right day
And as I rise above the treeline and the clouds
I look down hear the sound of the things you said today
Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd, smiling
Merciless, the magistrate turns 'round, frowning
and who's the fool who wears the crown
Go down in your own way
And everyday is the right day
And as you rise above the fear lines in his brown
You look down
Hear the sound of the faces in the crowd

Great song one of my faves

Going to go deep here:

I read this lyrics in bold and it occurs to me that maybe what sets this band apart and why "We" still cherish the band is in the writing of the songs, they speak of the Common Man's struggle to make every day life different.
I mean pick a song, pick an album, they're about the struggle of everyday life. And a lot of them are business people and they're daily work life.
Maybe that's why they never get old because what the wrote about comes around in another part of our lives.

:micdrop:

It's also somewhat about liquid microdot...lol

There are so many great lyrics in PF songs. Waters and company were phenomenal

From Echoes

Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can?

From Free Fore

The memories of a man in his old age
Are the deeds of a man in his prime.
You shuffle in gloom of the sickroom
And talk to yourself as you die.

I Love the song Time! It sums up life pretty good!

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way.

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time.
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over,
Thought I'd something more to say.

I'm from Worcester!! Theres a bunch of THPers out your way.

We should play sometime.

Definitely, been out with some in the past couple of years. the Red Tail trip has been great

I sat in my office listening to The Wall this morning - - I forgot what a great song One Of My Turns really is!

Day after day, love turns grey
Like the skin of a dying man
Night after night, we pretend it's all right
But I have grown older and
You have grown colder
And nothing is very much fun any more...

Listening to DB at work right now. Still one my all-time favorite slbums. Underrated imo.

I HATED DB when I first got it 13 years ago, but 'Lost For Words' sucked me into the rest of the album. 'Lost For Words' still top 5 PF song for me.

Without a doubt the best music of my generation. I’m talking both lyrics and arrangements. There may be more popular bands from my era, but absolutely none better. And that’s not the lunatic in my head talking. He only comes out on special occasions!!
Raised both my boys on them. Now 36 n 33 they both still rank PF above all others of that era also! I keep hoping they have one more tour in them!!
