The fishing thread

I like Mahi done like ham...marinated in pineapple and cherry juice. Grilled over charcoal! It will make you slap yo momma!

Dammit. You guys are making me miss my boat now.

Wish I would have thought of that.

Started fishing at dusk at my spot in Narraganset Bay for striped bass, they're here now. I have a spot at the end of a dock at a private club that's awesome. I've landed 25 lb stripers here. They come right in chasing the menhaden.

Light tackle for now, this 7 ft setup with 20lb braid can land anything. I use either a Rebel Jumpin Minnow that I upgraded with saltwater hooks or a soft plastic.

I'll post a pic of the first one I get this season. Maybe tonight or soon.

I've only ever fished in Norway for cod, mackerel, garfish, ling and coalfish. Some super funky fish going on in your parts

It's time to dust off the gear and get ready for this year's Tuna season. The Bluefin are biting and I'm itching to get out there. I have a private boat trip planned for next Sunday, and a private 2 day charter the beginning of July. Hopefully I can restock the freezer with plenty of Bluefin and yellowfun tuna, along with some yellowtail and Dorado!

My neighbor caught this 42" Cobia last week. I'm heading down this weekend to try my luck with the "Man in the Brown Suit" .... season doesn't officially open until June 1st though.

That's one of the last local species still on my bucket list.

Tied new leads on a couple of my reels today on my break.

It was like a lake off the Oregon Coast this day.

Keepers from the first of 9 pots. Only needed 4 pots for our 3 limits. Dumped the rest back...

You’ll want to avoid those pinchy things!!!

Coolest Rainbow of my life. He went right back to the deep!

Nice little halibut. We weren’t even hunting them this day. We were only looking for Ling Cod. Halibut was still legal catch for a couple more weeks though! Sure was fun to get it on light tackle...

We call a blue Ling Cod a Smurf. The blue meat cooks up white, just like normal. Tastes the same, as well. Maybe 1 out of 25 are blue. Not sure why, but they’re pretty cool.

I have a 2 1/2 day offshore trip coming up this weekend. Boat leaves Sunday night and comes back in Tuesday night. Hopefully I'll get a few Bluefin Tuna on this trip. West coast offshore fishing has been strong so far this season, and conditions should be perfect for this trip. I'll post up some pics if I catch anything.

My brother and his 46 inch pike he caught last fall.
It set the new Idaho state catch and release record.
He caught it in Coeur d'Alene lake where the THP event will be held in September.
Maybe drop a line in from the floating green and get both a bird and a fish on the same hole ?

This is my biggest fish ever caught, a 58lb Grass Carp. Was fishing for Common Carp in the Apalachicola river in the Florida panhandle, in Chattahoochee, and was lucky enough to hook into this guy. 30 minutes later it weighed in at 58lbs even. This was from june 2009.

Just caught 10 fish right at dusk then dark. 3 bluefish and then 7 striped bass, biggest striper was about 25” just under a keeper. What a blast. That means the bigger keeper stripers will be arriving shortly.

Another striper, getting bigger. Fall run starting off strong. I break off the barbs for easy release.

Besides catching a nice sized Mahi Mahi in Antigua earlier in the year, I've been doing some local fishing at the lake at my local golf course.

I hook up a plastic worm on ultra light gear, and see what happens. I've been catching bass and pickerel around 1 to 1 1/2 pounds, and on the ultra light its fun. Catch and release of course, and a nice cigar.

I fish a little.....

Got my boat back today from the shop, looking forward to hitting the water tomorrow and catch some fish. Taking the weekend off from golf.

Haven't fished in eons. Lots of weeds near shore these days, so you'd almost need to get a boat.
I did clean up my fishing rods and reels that were out in the garage in anticipation of moving. They're coming with!
Largemouth were always my favorites, and even the crappies gave a nice fight.
Definitely something I'm eying as a hobbie for my elder years here. (y)

Fall run starting in RI, caught a couple small stripers after golf yesterday. Great day!

Culprit Red Shad still gets the job done!

We're still looking for something a little more substantial out of the pond, though.

Who's up for some salmon sashimi?
