The Swimming Pool Thread

We had a pool installed last fall. Saltwater, and we use a robot vacuum, not really much to up keep once you get the chemicals balanced.

Yeah it cost more than planned, but I don't regret it at all. I get a nice workout in swimming laps every swimmable day. I'm gonna go hit a couple buckets of balls this morning, then come home and cool off in the pool!

Couldn't see myself without a pool. Moved back to Fl (Ormond Beach) in 2011. Didn't want a pool, but the wife insisted. Screened in with an attached spa, solar heating, salt water. i'm in it at least 5 days a week, late March to Thanksgiving. Best thing I ever did. If I could redo it, I would do without the spa, barely use it. Would put in a water feature instead. Have a pool service ($100-$120/month) so I don't fuss with the cleaning or water testing/salt. Can't say if my power bill increased because I also had a solar hot water heater installed for the house at the same time. My bill did go down about about $15/month after all this. Would never have pool unless it was screened in (caged). Bugs, tree leaves etc are a pain with an uncaged pool. Nothing better than coming home from a round of golf in August, walking through the house, leaving a trail of sweaty clothes on the floor and directly into the pool.

Had to replace the vacuum yesterday but the new one is working well. Pentair Dorado is so much quieter than what we had before.

Just signed the contract to start building. This will be my first pool. Nothing to extravagant, but I'll post done pics along the way.

I suggest buying a membership to someplace that has one.

had one growing up, and to be mantained properly takes a lot of work

I agree wholeheartedly with this. We went the membership route last year -- $275 for Memorial Day thru Labor Day, which seems a bit short for this area. It seemed like a hassle to round everything up and slather the kids in sunscreen each trip over there, but then I kept thinking back to watching my grandpa slave over theirs every day it was open for years. I want no part of the maintenance, not to mention, the increased utility costs. I don't have enough time to play golf, as it is.

My wife wants one at the house, though, and I'm afraid I may be on the losing end one day. :banghead:

That's what happened to me! Wife wanted one at the house, I wanted the membership to the country club that has a pool. So I'm putting a pool in!

Pools are great! We put one in two years ago(ish) and it has been awesome. Of course, in Vegas we use it April-October, so that's a little longer than other places. Plus I sometimes heat it for Thanksgiving and Christmas when we have guests in town.

When wife and I were looking to build a new home we discussed it because Arizona is a little warm at times. Luckily we happened upon a community that has a residents pool and the overall development has one also so we have access to 2 within walking distance so we figured why bother installing and dealing with all the work.

$275 later, our pool is open for the season...it’s unseasonably warm here so maybe we’ll get more use out of it this year.

Our next house will have a pool. It’s the top item on the list. We’ll use it for about 9 months out of the year.

Pool construction is coming along.

Here's our pool. We filled it in a couple of years ago and now it's a garden. We have tons of potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and more potatoes.

That looks fantastic! I have my heart set on adding a saltwater plunge pool in our future home. Have no idea what the cost would be though, lol.
