Great job guys! It's always a fun follow with UST and Danny. Looking forward to hearing how the club/driver combos work out for you.

I love a square tee box! The course looks amazing.

I didn’t do a ton of pro shop damage but I snagged a few mementos

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the counterbalance. I'm a big fan of the V2 series (I think I have them all but the HL version at this point). Great follow guys, killer updates and looks like a great time was had in Chicago. Plus you got to see JBs favorite billboard!

Just caught up and it looks like you guys had a great time. Let's hear more about the head/shaft combos.

Did you punch him?

Lol. Nope. I wish it got on tv though. I was a bit tired and didn’t have all my wits about me. So I didn’t get the chance to say leave it in there until he gets here lol. Then it would’ve definitely made coverage hahaha maybe even offer to have him pluck it out

Just want to say what a great couple of days to cap off the 2019 Shaft Up Series.
Graphite Challenge still to come with signups coming later this week.

Well as I have been a littel MIA, this thread was exactly what I needed.

As always the event didn't disappoint. I mean, amazing food (that orient food looked dang good.....), sweet gear, Danny in long sleeves (looked banging by the way), a course that just made me smile to look at, and of course good updates and good golf. Congrats guys and thanks for the awesome follow. Definitely made my week better :)

Now that’s what I’m talking about!!

Alright, here goes nothing...

Shaft Up started on a Thursday, but in reality it started way before that. Within a couple hours of being selected, I received an email from Danny telling me how excited HE was, and the email contained all his contact info and said not to hesitate to reach out at any time. For the next 6 weeks or so there were several emails exchanged between myself, Danny and Dmoney. We discussed our golf games, what our strengths and weaknesses were, what we were looking for from Danny and just general excitement for the trip. As the event approached, you could tell everyone was getting pretty excited about what was about to happen.

Thursday
The day started with a quick text from Danny saying he would grab us from the airport in a few hours driving the "Man Van." After a short flight, I met up with Dmoney near baggage claim and we made our way out to JB and Danny. Danny jumps out, shakes hands and you can tell he's ready to go play some golf. He immediately handed us a couple shirts and hats as we got in the van. We have about an hour drive to the course, and we dive in talking about everything. Golf, movies, families, everything. It was a great time to really get to know each other. We hit up Portillos for an early lunch, which was delicious and then made our way to Olympia Fields. I followed the thread last year and thought I had prepared myself for how amazing the course was going to look, but I was still floored when we pulled in and drove up and you could see the course. Beautiful is an understatement. We were brought to the locker room and shown our lockers for the event and there Danny surprised us with some Srixon balls and UST tees. We made our way to the practice range and hit a few balls to warm up while Danny got everything set up for our fittings. I was first to go and after maybe 2 swings with my old driver, Danny says I see why you struggle with the slice. He has me set up to the ball with a little tweak and my very next swing is piped. I hit about 6 shots with my old driver and he hands me the Hogan with the v2 CB and says to take some swings and see what I think. The results were pretty crazy. With his set up adjustment, and the new combo, my slice went to a gentle fade and I was putting some distance on the ball. He had me try a few other shafts just for comparison, but nothing felt anywhere close to the v2 CB. After Dmoney goes through his fitting, it's time to golf. The first hole is a long par 5. The nerves are there a bit and I pull my tee shot left into the woods. Luckily, Dmoney puts a decent swing on a ball and we are right side of the fairway. It's a 3 shot par 5 and we are still 300 out. I pull out a 6i, make an awful swing, and proceed to push it to the next fairway over. Dmoney hits his 3rd into a green side bunker, and at this point I'm still about 170 out, in the wrong fairway and haven't hit a single good shot yet. I manage to hit the green and 2 putt for a par and we steal the hole and are off and running. All day Thursday, Dmoney and I were the perfect ham and egg combo. When one of us ran into trouble, the other stepped up and hit a shot to keep us in the hole. I made a couple great shots from greenside bunkers and my putter was crazy hot. Dmoney hit some good drives and bailed us out on a few tee shots on par 3's and we cruised to a 4&3 win. Danny and JB made a run at us around hole 12 or so, and were sitting pretty in the middle of the fairway looking to cut the lead to 1, and for just a minute, I thought we might be in trouble, but we managed to hang on and seal the win a few holes later. We finished the round just having some fun and as we came up 28, I was pretty bummed to be done for the day, but also knew we had dinner coming so there was still plenty to be excited about. Dinner was at an Asian place, that I can't remember the name of, but man was it good. I did pork and rice, but we had about 8 different kinds of appetizers and they were all amazing. After dinner we hit up the casino where the slots ate my money, but I sat down at a table and doubled my money pretty quick and walked back to our hotel with JB up for the night.

Friday
Friday started with some amazing breakfast and it was straight to the course after that. A quick warm up, and we were off the the first tee. We have the tee box and proceed to jack both our tee shots OB and they take hole 1 and right away we could see it was going to be a little different today. We got 4 down pretty quick, but then things settled in and we held steady for awhile, before finally snagging a hole and we thought maybe we could rattle off a few, but Danny makes birdie on the very next hole to steal back the momentum. We lose 3&2, but still had a great time. The green complexes on the South course were much harder in my opinion. The majority of them were elevated and had a ton more slope than the North course. Every hole on both courses were spectacular though. I would play there every single day if possible. Traffic was pretty awful after our round, so we ended up just heading straight to the airport where we all had a nice lunch and waited for our flights. I have a ton of memories that will stick with me forever from this trip, a great new friend in Dmoney, who is an awesome dude for those that have never met him, and a ton of knowledge from Danny. I've heard the stories of how awesome he is, from those of you that have met him before, and they don't do it justice. Danny is phenomenal. He's obviously awesome at what he does, but he's truly just a great dude both on and off the course. Watching him and JB was like watching an old married couple. You guys made it an incredible experience for us and we can never thank you enough.

The Equipment
I was fit for the Hogan 9* with the UST v2 Counterbalance 7F5. I had always wondered is an X stiff shaft would help or hurt me, but Danny said with my speed it should be perfect and it really was. The Hogan is a lower spinning head and that combo really made my drives come alive. I hit several over the 2 days that were just bombs. And not internet bombs, but real bombs. I can't say enough how impressed I was with the Hogan driver. I honestly didn't have a ton of desire to play it until OhioGolfer returned from his event and I saw him hit it and heard the sound. It might be the best sounding driver I've heard in a long time. Paired with the proper shaft for me, I have a ton more confidence that I did a week ago standing on the tee box. I'm really excited to put this in play and see where I am on my normal courses, compared to where I have been in the past.

I'm sure there is more that will come to me later, but JB, Danny and DMoney thank you guys for one heck of a trip. I sincerely hope we can meet up again and share some more laughs. Dmoney you are a genuinely good human dude. Even if your job is borderline crazy ;) Good luck with the swing, enjoy your growing family. We will for sure play golf again at some point my man.
