I joined up for the Play Away with ClubCorp last week after seeing it here on THP. You can check out the original thread and homepage article here.

Me and my wife Carol decided to drive a couple hours up to Austin and check out what the play away program is all about. It turned out to be a perfect way to celebrate me winning a spot in the 2019 Grandaddy. We made reservations at what ClubCorp calls a city club. These are a very nice restaurant / bar with great food that are only open to ClubCorp members. This is the University of Texas club located on the campus of UT overlooking the football stadium.

Lets get started with a captain and coke. The drinks are not complimentary but everything below here is included in my $60 per month membership.

20190803_195043.jpg

Crab cakes

20190803_201840.jpg

Filet mignon

20190803_201852.jpg

Lobster mac n cheese. I thought about JB when I ordered it, It may have been the best thing we ate.

20190803_201815.jpg

Carol had the red snapper

20190803_201859.jpg

and garlic mashed potatoes

Not pictured were the salads and two pieces of cheesecake that we took to go because we were stuffed.

First impressions are very positive and I have not even played a single hole of golf. Keep in mind you get two meals and two rounds of golf at EACH of the participating courses and clubs per month and the list is quite impressive. We are off to New Braunfels tomorrow to drink beer and float the Comal river. I have a round booked for Lakeway country club on Monday. This is a very nice facility with four different courses on the premises. I will be sure to review the course on Monday, I need the practice for the Grandaddy!!

I may play goat tracks at home but I roll like Thurston Howell III on vacation HAHA.20190803_193836.jpg20190803_195043.jpg20190803_201815.jpg20190803_201852.jpg20190803_201840.jpg20190803_201859.jpg

Wow that food looks amazing. Enjoy Lakeway - some nice courses!

Finished off my Austin weekend trip with a round at The Hills of Lakeway Country Club Flint Rock Falls Course. There are four courses located here and this is the only one open on Monday. I believe this is the least desirable course here but it is a lot better than my local courses. My wife rode along with me as a non player so the cart fee was a paltry $25.00. I was on pace for a 2.5 hour round which is pretty good for a course that I had never played until I caught a slow group on hole 14.

I had a wonderful time on this weekend getaway. It was a celebration of being chosen for the Grandaddy and a much needed break for us after a busy spring and summer at the lawnmower shop. The amenities at the city club and country club were exquisite. The first use of the ClubCorp travel plan was a complete success. The booking process was easy and we had no problems at either place using our benefits. If you think this plan might be for you do not delay, the $1000.00 dollar initiation fee is only being waived for a limited time.20190805_115440.jpg20190805_115724.jpg20190805_123451.jpg20190805_125114.jpg20190805_132603.jpg20190805_132622.jpg20190805_135909.jpg20190805_140156.jpg20190805_143141.jpg

Looks like you had a great time!!!!

That looks pretty great. If you are anywhere near the TN/GA border you should try to go to Curahee Golf Club. I saw it on the list of courses available. That course is amazing, but it's out in the middle of nowhere.

Looked like a great weekend.

such a great writeup @badolds. if anyone was on the fence before, i'm pretty sure this would push them into a purchase decision. seems like an excellent value.

I've only played Flintrock Falls once, in a tournament. It was deathly hot (and slow of course) and I didn't play well. I recognize a couple of the par threes in your pictures: the first hole in our shotgun start, where I put my first ball in the water, and the second hole in your pictures, where I won $20 for closest to the pin.

How are the other courses out there? I hope to play there again in the fall. It was hot yesterday too, the sun stayed behind the clouds on the front but roasted me on the back. I shot 88 which is about my average score, not bad for never playing that course before.

Nice review! So did they just charge you a cart fee for the free green fee?

Yes the green fee is included in the membership. You have to pay the cart fee at the course.

We are headed to Waco this evening to eat dinner at the Baylor Club located on the Baylor campus and then playing Wildflower Country Club in Temple tomorrow. Updates to follow.

We took a quick trip up to Waco to check out the town and play a round of golf. Waco is a cool college town with the Brazos river running right through the city. It was 102 degrees outside when I took the picture below. I was standing on a single span suspension bridge that was built in 1870. It was a marvel of engineering in its day and is one of the longest in existence.

You can see the Baylor football stadium where the Baylor Club is located.

20190817_194726.jpg

This is looking out the glass from our table out to the stadium.

20190817_200145.jpg

Started with the crispy Dr. Pepper chicken thighs.

20190817_201442.jpg

I had the cowboy ribeye with green beans and mashed potatoes.

20190817_201450.jpg

Carol had the bacon wrapped scallops with some mushy looking sweet potatoes and kale or some crap.

20190817_205432.jpg

After dinner we walked around the empty football stadium. It was surreal being there without another soul around.

20190817_205733.jpg

After a great night we are leaving and I see Carol chatting it up with some dude.

I played a round at Wildflower Country Club in Temple. It was the final day of the club championship so things were pretty slow. The course was in perfect condition but the greens were lightning fast and the pin placements were difficult. I shot 47 - 44 for a 91 so not my best day but I still had a great time. I could not be happier with the ClubCorp Play Away program. The golf courses have been nicer than anything I play locally and the food at the city clubs has far exceeded my expectations.

Played a round at Countryside country club in Clearwater Florida. The course was in great shape overall and the greens were smooth and FAST!!

The only cost to me here was the $24 cart fee and I took advantage of the complimentary Taylormade loaner clubs. My wife does not play golf but rides along when we are out of town and she has yet to be charged a cart fee.

The greens there are just awesome. Super Fast and always a fun course.

After a great round of golf we headed of to the Centre Club in downtown Tampa for dinner.

20190927_164907.jpg

I had the surf and turf. The filet mignon was served with a delicious brown gravy. It was so good with the mashed potatoes!! Its was like a rich mans pot roast haha.

20190927_164911.jpg

Carol had the red snapper, so mild and delicious.

20190927_172130.jpg

Turtle cheesecake for me.

20190927_172141.jpg

Carol went for the wild berry.

Not pictured was the shrimp cocktail and she crab bisque. I scarfed it down as soon as it hit the table without taking pictures. This meal for two came out to $24 bucks!! This play away program is a game changer if you use it enough. We are thinking they are going to cancel our membership from overuse.

I was a Centre Club goer nearly every day for lunch for close to 10 years.

Looks like your getting your money out of the deal @badolds, certainly seems like a solid value for those that can take advantage of it.

Looks awesome Dan. Glad you’re enjoying the membership.

Played a round at the north course at East Lake Woodlands country club in Oldsmar Florida. The course was in perfect condition and the greens were quick but not unfair.
