Montaup CC 1PM tee off. Haven’t played here in 20 years.

Very nice course. Those 1st 3 holes are tough.

It was in great shape, scored a 39/41, pretty good for me. Blew one left on 17 on the railroad tracks too, lol.

Ok folks... here’s my little write up of the experience I had today. Now, my game is “in form” these days but I’m not willing to lie to myself, I know what I am... I am a good “public golf course” player. My handicap, down at a low of 4.1, doesn’t travel to “real” golf courses. For me, real is this... true target golf where green position matters, length, true hazards... in other words private golf. I can fire away at slow greens and be ok and never have a chip come back to my feet, even when a slope is clearly there... places like Red Tail don’t even mow tight enough for this painful experience to occur.

So today I shot an 89, humbling but I am happy with it.

Old Sandwich is pure... it’s absolute purity. It feels like a course that’s existed for over 100 years except it was built in 2004. It has an air of wealth, can’t escape that as I heard and kind of dug around for the info: 100k to join, 25 a year for a family ... woof. This is 1% type stuff.

However, once you get past that... it’s a great track. Everyone is very friendly and there’s an odd amount of international staff around (cart kids were from South Africa, Ireland, and Scotland). The course is clearly a Top 100 world course and certainly lived up to the task. I’ve tried for years to get on. A parent of a student had us out and even covered all the guest and caddie fees, very gracious.

A lot of dark wood here, amazing shower... great water pressure.

Ok, Brad Faxon hit it around a bunch here at some point.

I could go and on about this place...

Swag shop... 6 of 10, super high end brands in shirts like RLX etc but headcovers were ok, no Winston Collection! Hats were banal, kind of new England style in their simplicity.

My playing partner Lance is actually playing B. Faxon's vokey wedges from last year. That is a special course you got to play. Kittansett and The Bay Club are two other gems like that.

Os is a fun track. How'd you play the short drivable dogleg left par 4?

Well... I can tell you it isn’t driveable from the back tee. My student is a +2 who murders the ball and even he couldn’t do that. I aimed at the bunker, hit a cut just over it. Left me with like 125 ish... a hell of a hole though.

2022 Senior Open is not at Kittansett. It's the US Senior Amateur, which I had no idea even existed. Thank you Google.

Old Sandwich and The Country Club are my 2 white whales in Massachusetts. I may have a way to get onto OS at some point, but TCC will likely remain a pipe dream.

Played Braintree yesterday. First time, even though I've lived on the south shore or in Boston pretty much my entire life. I liked it. Par on the first two, then it was all downhill from there. Funny story from one of the holes on the back 9, a 165 yard par 3. I go first and am so focused on surveying the hole that I didn't notice a sign next to the tee box. I hit my shot, lands on the fringe on the left side of the green and looks like it might have bounced off and towards some trees. My partners all say "you should come read this sign"......turns out it said "BEWARE, HORNETS NEST IN MAPLE TREE TO THE LEFT OF THE GREEN". Haha. Was fine, not a hornet in sight once I got there. Oh and seeing the goats halfway through the back 9 was fun, too!

My first drive of the day landed right here. But as I said, all downhill from here. Literally and figuratively!

Was fortunate enough to play Fall River cc yesterday with Artm. Gorgeous track with views of Taunton river on a couple holes. We made it through 15 holes before torrential downpours came down on us.

Looking forward to a review, I was camping up in Lincoln this weekend and saw the highway sign for the course. Peaked my interest as my wife was snoring next to me.

Found this site while looking for information on the Callaway CS Truvis balls and figured I'd join. I'm a hacker who's next goal is to break 90 consistently. Shot 90 once this year, but the last few rounds have been low to mid 90s (down from 100+ last year). Short game is the bane of my existence.

Typically play Trull Brook (my league course), GHIN home course is Windham as I have good friends that play there quite a bit and the 90 round was at Butternut. Also enjoy playing Butter Brook. Always looking to play new courses, although I've played most of the public courses in the Metro West / North Shore area.

Looking forward to exploring the site some more.
