The Official Tiger Woods Thread

This story is getting worse and worse for Tiger. He just needs to come clean and put this to bed. Pretty soon hes going to be ordering a Kobe for his wifes hand, the house on a ring to say Im sorry.

Ironically Kobe was just named one of the "men of the year". I think in 11 weeks if we do not hear a peep, it goes away. The Tiger haters will still hate. The Tiger lovers will still love.

Me, I just do not care about his private life enough to worry about it. I understand that some do, and that is for them.

I would agree with you but the mistresses keep coming out. And with damning evidence too. I with you though, I really dont care what he does and with who, its his choices and consequences. Weve all been in those situations asking ourselves "how the hell did I get myself into this?" and it just sucks. For his sake hopefully it all blows over soon and I can stop seeing it on Sportscenter.

Forget just sportscenter it's on every damn TV station here. It's on all the news channels, all the sports channels, and all the tabloid tv channels as well.

I just want to see the man play golf. I feel so bad for him. He never signed up for this crap. He tries to live a normal life like you or I and now some BS periodical is trying to ruin his marriage? What kind of sleaze are we dealing with here?

Put yourself in his shoes. Say your occupation was high profile and you tried to live the life you wanted but people tried to make money off of a scandal that may or may not be true and, in fact, may be completely made up just to make a dollar. Now you would be in a trap where you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. You would want to go beat some asses and you cannot deny that. If someone tried to mess with your good marriage, what would your reaction be? I would be going after the D-bags and aiming for castration.

Who would sell their soul for a dollar? Who would ship their fellow human down the river just for a little profit? I hope both Tiger and that other woman end up owning the NE. Maybe turn it into another golf magazine.

This morning some woman has turned over a voice mail he sent her asking her to take her name off her phone's voice mail b/c his wife might be calling her after going through his phone. It sounded just like him but who really knows anymore with the technology we have these days.

I find it highly unlikely that if Tiger did in fact have any kind of sexual encounter or affair that he would leave a trail. I'm amazed at these women who want their 15 seconds of fame with no thought to anyone else. Have a little consideration for Elin and the children.

I am not saying all of this is right, nor do I agree with the people putting him through the ringer. However:

Every professional athlete has signed up for this crap. You put yourself in the spotlight and get paid by the public (who buys the products you are spokesman for, and for inflated prices since the company pays you so much). You've given up the normal life. You can try to make it as normal as possible, but it's not going to happen.

Very good point. You are right, but I don't think it should be this way and certainly not to the point of harassment like tends to happen. I strongly disagree with people trying to make money off of a scandal. What does it profit a man if he gains the world and looses his soul?

I guess if our own lives were more exciting, we would care a little less about others lives? Perhaps it is just human nature being exploited by the media. I just hope something like this never happens to me if I ever become famous (not a big worry there haha).

I talked to a guy who knows somebody that heard from a man that knew a woman who at one time apparently had a girlfriend that knew a guy that heard from someone who once worked for or knew somebody that did work for Tiger that Tiger likes the ladies.

Where there's smoke, there's probably fire. At least that's what I've heard. From somebody.

Nicely stated........:clapp:

Sure I like watching Tiger when his game is on and hes not throwing a tantrum along with his driver but sorry its pretty hard to deny the evidence. Voicemails, emails and texts dont lie. It sucks but hey he made the bed. Time to own up just like Letterman had to do.

The news is also reporting that their was one text message sent an hour before the wreck happened......Why wouldn't he just come out and say it from the beginning, it doesn't make him a bad person, people make mistakes it's just how you correct them that matters.....

Um... Tiger now saying he 'regrets letting his family down'. Ouch.

And I think he did sign up for this. Likely explicitly in his Nike contract. He's making millions upon millions using the positive vibe his name has in advertising. You can't have it both ways and market your name without having responsibilty for the scrutiny that comes with it.

And honestly, I'm constantly amazed at the hubris that comes with such success; thinking he could actually have affairs with what it looks like are classless women (classless= would sell voicemail recording to paper) and not have it come out in the end. Or am I really that amazed?

In the end we're all flawed creatures. Tiger is just a man.

Say it ain't so.

Tigers Statement

I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.

Although I am a well-known person and have made my career as a professional athlete, I have been dismayed to realize the full extent of what tabloid scrutiny really means. For the last week, my family and I have been hounded to expose intimate details of our personal lives. The stories in particular that physical violence played any role in the car accident were utterly false and malicious. Elin has always done more to support our family and shown more grace than anyone could possibly expect.

But no matter how intense curiosity about public figures can be, there is an important and deep principle at stake which is the right to some simple, human measure of privacy. I realize there are some who don't share my view on that. But for me, the virtue of privacy is one that must be protected in matters that are intimate and within one's own family. Personal sins should not require press releases and problems within a family shouldn't have to mean public confessions.

Whatever regrets I have about letting my family down have been shared with and felt by us alone. I have given this a lot of reflection and thought and I believe that there is a point at which I must stick to that principle even though it's difficult.

I will strive to be a better person and the husband and father that my family deserves. For all of those who have supported me over the years, I offer my profound apology.

That should wrap it up. That's as close to an admission of infidelity as we're gonna get from Tiger.

So what's Britney been up to? Chelsea Clinton is engaged. Meridith Baxter is a lesbian.

Looks like my source was right. No wonder he's angry all the time. His life was a like a French farce. French farceish lives are very stressful. Just ask Frasier Crane.

That's why I limit myself to one good women.

I really am shocked that a professional athlete would cheat on his wife. Is this the first time something like this has happened?

I don't know what to say. I feel for his wife and children when they are old enough to understand. It seems that someone has given him some PR advice to calm the horde. I hope he works it out with his wife and gets back to playing some winning golf. Maybe he will watch his actions on the course closer now that he is going to be under more of a microscope.

I agree that it is none of our business (but if I told you I was not curious, I would be lying). I guess we all succumb to human nature to varying degrees.

* Other than impact on Elin and (eventually) the kids, I have to concede I'm not exactly troubled by this story. The adversity seems deliciously apropos, after Tiger's relentless profanity and antics throughout 2009 were greeted with far too much downplaying, on sites like this and in the golf media in general. The flavorful language and no class outbursts have always been significantly worse and more singular to Tiger than the star power apologists wanted to pretend. I followed Tiger at Doral and decided to leave his group after 6 holes, it was so disgusting. Plus the fawning by media like CBS and specifically Feherty, who were determined to gush over every 3 putt as a terrific 3 putt. I remember posting on another site that it would only stop, and a semblance of reality restored, if Tiger were made the butt of jokes, for the first time in his life. Now he's placed himself there.

* Plenty of inept handicappers on this story, specifically the ones who insisted Tiger was guilty of nothing and planning to launch a massive lawsuit(s). The incident was so bizarre it can't be nothing. His initial statement was like a puddle, basically pleading guilty to things he hadn't been charged with. And the National Enquirer is light years more legit than many time warped posters seem to understand, particularly when you are playing in their domain, a personal scandal. No chance they had released everything and taken a wild stab against someone of that stature. Tiger would be vulnerable from every direction upon a lawsuit. A defense lawyer's biggest problem would be restraining the laughter.

* Tiger's statement today was indeed professional. As in no threat of warmth, which could have served as the first step toward understanding and forgiveness. There might have been one sentence with fewer than 15 words. He needed some short snappy and memorable, "I'm sorry," sentences, but whiffed.

* In Tiger's newest statement he seems fixated on the tabloid/TMZ claims that Elin caused his facial injuries. Okay, apparently that wasn't true. I'll buy Tiger's version in that regard. But it almost reminded me of O.J's bemused facial expressions in the opening day of his preliminary hearing. The prosecution brought forth a knife that they speculated could have been the murder weapon. O.J.'s face was going sideways in disbelief, almost delighted, as if to say, "Is this the caliber of opposition I'll be dealing with? That's not the knife I used." Obviously Tiger warrants zero, zero, zero comparison to O.J. but I thought it was striking that another celebrity was transfixed on one aspect the accusers got wrong, as opposed to everything legitimately stacked against him

* In Las Vegas my friends and I have never understood how the phrase, "...stays in Vegas," ever took hold. It is the all time PR campaign success with no foundation in truth. I wish I had videos of all the times we've marveled at the absurdity of that theme. The all time certainty: If you hear that phrase it's from someone who has never lived there

* One cliche theme, often used in regard to Tiger's 2:25 AM crash, is also laughable: "Nothing good ever happens after midnight." My Las Vegas buddies and I have busted up over that one for years. The sportsbooks are notorious for the least able supervisors working the graveyard shift. They make mistakes that would never happen during the day, leading to incredible bargains. Bad numbers can sit for hours at night so you have plenty of time to find them on the computer and scoop them up. Similarly, overnight poker games are very beatable, picking on tourists trying to squeeze in a few last desperate hours before an AM flight. A few years ago the goldmine Vision series slot machines were pounced on by sharp guys all day but you could run into surreal bargains in the wee hours, guaranteed profit just sitting there for the person who spotted it. Not to mention the great late night food specials in the casinos, and the all night buffets. Late night comedy acts and bands. And I can't imagine going grocery shopping before 1 AM and having to deal with an actual line instead of sauntering through at my leisure.

I realize I'm accustomed to a different lifestyle but that post midnight fear is priceless. Now, 7-9 AM, agreed. Those hours are worthless. I'm not sure the last time I saw any of them. :D

I love the fact Tiger has fessed up. I will respect him a lot more now than if he had always refused to admit to anything. Hell he's a 33 yr old billionaire, that must be a hell of a huge weight to be dragging around. I cheated on my ex wife when I was 30, course I also fessed up immediately as I wanted out of the relationship anyways. Plenty of us have been in his shoes & i'm glad to see he's human & not the robot that is so often portrayed.

BTW, I.T.Y.S.:D

So now he is more like Rocky than Ivan Drago right?

I am being selfish with this statement, but I hope this does not affect his golf game for 2010. I love seeing records broken.

You seemed to have called it Dyna. I just didn't want it to be true, but we all make mistakes I suppose. I am not going to throw stones at him.
