Hi Guys,

Not sure if this sounds absurd or not to you, but i've been thinking about cutting down my old scotty from a 34" to a 33" after i had an old putter cut down for my gf last week. Comparing the two lengths, the shorter stick felt more natural for me.

So my question is:
1) will this lighten the swingweight?
2) will it affect the balance of the putter?
3) should i just choke down an inch?

Let me know with your thouhts as i'm somewhat on the fence about this.

Cheers!

Ive shortened all 4 putters ive ever owned. Never had any issues other than improved lie.

Go for it!

I had my Ping Anser cut down. My eyes are over the ball now. No problems with anything.

can't you just choke down? It's cheaper with the same result, no?

I have tried that, but the feeling of it is just not the same imo.

Don't be afraid to experiment. Feel is very subjective. Only you will know if the change effects feel. I have never been able to feel any change by cutting off or adding a inch. Go for it!

Well if it is oilcan Newport wasn't it 35" standard length to begin with?

1) will this lighten the swingweight? Yes. If you find it too light after cutting it down you might want to add some leadtape or lead powder down the shaft.
2) will it affect the balance of the putter? No
3) should i just choke down an inch? I would go ahead and cut it down rather than trying to choke down and remember where and how far I need to place my hands each time I go to putt.
