Hi Guys!

Late March 09, I am driving to Texas (long way I know) for a week golf vacation. We are looking to play around 4 different courses while we are there. I was wondering if any of you have heard of or played any really good courses there.

Any suggestions on accommodations, food, and entertainment would be awesome as well.

Thanks!

Dude,

That's a pretty huge request. You do realize how big Texas is and how many cities and courses there are, right? And how far it is in between those cities?

So here are some starter questions:
What part of Texas (just San Antonio)?
How much do you want to spend on green fees?
I know I have some links around here. I'll find them during the down time and post them when the site goes back up.

Sorry, should have been more specific, but I don't know any details about my trip there Harry. I told my mom not to tell me because I like for it to be a suprise when I get there.

All I know is it's just San Antonio. Probably looking to spend around $150 max on green fees per course each.

Crap.

Crap.

Sorry, I completely forgot about this.

Unfortunately, my knowledge of Texas is mostly in the Austin to Dallas corridor.

Here are some links that may provide some helpful info.

Austin is about 1 1/2 (by car) north of San Antonio and last year was ranked the #1 city for golf in the U.S. by Golf Magazine. (San Antonio was #13. Dallas/Ft. Worth [4 1/2 hours north of San Antonio was #4.) In Austin, Barton Creek Resort is the premier destination in the area, but I don't know if you have to be a guest of the resort to play there. http://www.bartoncreek.com

From that ^^^ list, the following are in San Antonio:

Also... you can pick up a free magazine with the same title once reaching Texas at most golf shops/courses. We have the same thing here in Florida and I always give them to my clients. They are nice little book to have.

Related, but different question for my Texas friends...

I'm traveling to San Antonio over Christmas Eve and Christmas day, a first time there for me. Have a Riverwalk view hotel and mystery restaurant accommodations for dinner, anything else I should see? (Alamo's closed, I checked.)

If you like architecture, there is a neighborhood just south of the Riverwalk area. All on foot. Williamstown, William-something, I forget what. It's where the Germans originally settled, and it's a wonderful mish-mash of Victorian-area architecture. It would be a fun place just to walk around and gawk. I recall one nice park with a gazebo in it.

Def hit up the Quarry and any of the La Canterra courses. The Quarry is 2 different courses in one. The front nine is a rolling links course and the back nine is built down in an old abandoned rock quarry. If you are going during the summer months, def go early in the morning

Dent,

Stop in Austin - I will buy you lunch.

Sweet. Lunch on Julie. Wait. Let me rephrase. Julie is buying lunch. :alien2:

I think Dent's San Antonio trip got changed to a Florida trip

Julie probably knew that but this way she looks good by offering to buy Dent lunch! Slick move!

Welcome to THP

Yes it sure did get changed. We were concerned about the conditions of the Golf Course in spring break, and we couldn't find any good package deals going on there.
