Progressions seem simple, but require commitment and sometimes deep pockets.

I will agree with the deep pockets thing. It seems if you catch a cold run of cards that you can blow hundreds in a very short amount of time.

I used to play a ton in College. There is a Casino in Canberra and we went every Thursday night. We had it all figured out. The Black Jack tables there sit 8 player's so we made sure that all 8 of us (me and my mates) were at the same table. We all pooled our money prior to entering and we always divided up the winnings among the 8 of us at the end of the night. We always made money that way.

Or thousands....

That is a great idea!

haha. We could go play some craps when I come up for your wedding...

Ever seen how nice the casinos are on the inside? Beautiful flooring, wonderful fixtures, free drinks, excellent rooms.
Do you think they got that way just from the uneducated gambler?

Yeah but... those are other people...

The house wins more often than not. I always set a limit for myself and walk out when I hit it. I like that thrill of having my money on the line though. It is fun for me.

That just made me laugh out loud. I was always the first guy to "beat the system" and reading threads its as if, all you have to do is be smart and you cant lose. Man, the casino always wins, even when it loses.

Off the forum, I would be happy to share a story or two about why I dont gamble anymore.
I always beat the system...Except when I didnt.

I will definitely ask you about this at the MC. Casino's are a new curiosity to me, but I am aware of problems with addiction. I am struggling with Nicotine addiction even after about 6 months without it. I don't want a gambling addiction which will wreck my life right now.

I've never played in a casino as I'm not of age, but I used to play with my friends all the time. So I learned to count cards and started taking their money on a consistant basis. Now they don't play with me anymore. Lol.

The key is to have a set amount, like you said, and consider that already spent (on entertainment). If you win anything (or don't loose all of it), bonus. Of, course that's always easier said than done. For some more than others.

I'm telling you, the only way we made money was to put 8 of us at a table. 8 dudes have a better chance of beating the dealer than one.

That's why I said poker. The rake is beatable with how bad an average player looking to have some fun plays.

I think I am going this weekend and I am definitely going to look for the poker tables. I recon it is easier to beat some duder at a low blind table and grind it out for some sushi money.

I actually went earlier today after my range session. Sat down with 60 and walked out after a full shoe with 65. I was pretty happy with it considering the dealer at one point won 4 straight hitting to 20s and 21.

I like sitting down at a table where the people know what they're doing(just play by the book and I'll be happy) but I understand when you get that feeling of hitting when you shouldn't. I've walked out twice where I won over $500 just by betting when I know the cards are coming but that's not a smart way to play haha

I don't want to be a downer, but speaking from experience...

Don't make gambling a habit. Going to Vegas once or twice a year is cool. But if you have easy access to gambling it becomes convenient. It can quickly lead to an addiction. Even if you don't get to the point where you spend your "bill" money, you may find yourself budgeting your living costs and then gambling away every expendable dollar you have.

Be very careful. It can catch up to you quick.

That reminds me of what The Dude said in The Big Lebowski when the guy asked what his bowling ball was. The Dude's response; "Obviously you don't play golf."

Thinking about going out tonight. May play Poker. Not sure yet
Also want to play blackjack though hmmm

I'm a craps player first, but do play blackjack sometimes. SethO, I've got a "rules card" I'll send you. (not "rules" of the game) but basically a cheat card. i.e. the dealers shows 6 and I have A-A....I should... For every combination.

You absolutely need to ask the dealer if it's ok to have it out, but I've never been told I can't. Most of the casinos sell them in the gift shop.

If you (and importantly the table) play by the "rules"...it will USUALLY limit your loss and USUALLY work in your favor. Like JB said..those casinos don't look like they do because they give away free money.

However, it's been my experience that NOT playing by the "rules".... <Terminator Voice> You will lose <\Terminator Voice>

I used to play tons of Black Jack, I don't count cards but I do know all the strategy and yes, playing at a table when people don't know what they are doing can P!SS YOU OFF....lol.

I like going to the casino in the middle of the night 2-3am and playing till 10am...usually only hardcore people there then...I use a progressive system for my bets, but it's a really simple one that doesn't require deep pockets and will help you manage your loses.

As others have said, it's important to know when the table has turned cold and to get out...don't chase you money....in other words when the table goes, don't start increasing your bets to try and "catch up" what you have already lost.

Basic progression is pretty easy....say it's a $5 table.....bet 5 on a hand and you win.....leave the winnings on the bet and now you are at a $10 bet.....you win again.....take 5 off your winnings and pocket it....(thats your orginal bet so you are now on casino money)...you bet is now $15....you win....take $10 off and pocket it....bet is now $20....you win, take $15 off and bet is now $25...and so on and so on.....you just continue that way increasing the amount you bet by $5 or even $10 with each winning hand, the important part of this system is, at anytime during the process you lose a hand, you start back at $5....even if you just had $50 bucks on the last hand....you go back to $5....DONT CHASE THE MONEY!!

I usually set a max bet at $50 a hand....so if I win enough hands that I get my bet that high, I stop there and when I win again I pocket the whole winnings from each hand at that point...remember to always go back and start the process from the beginning after each losing hand...if you do this right and manage to hit 4 or 5 hands in a row, you will be playing with casino money most of the time....but when the table goes cold....get up and talk a walk!!

Hitorstand.net has a game / trainer for free. It has basic "rules" built in and tells you if you break one. It keeps track of your fake "money" but mostly the % of correct choices you make. It's fun and pretty helpful.

Hitorstand is how I learned the game, every scenario possible, hmmmm maybe I'll go back for a refresher.

How'd you do?

No cards came to me last night. Even when I would go in aggressive nothing would come up(these guys didn't buy my bluffs) but the worst part was that even when I folded nothing would come up haha but when I thought I had something good "suited jack queen" the flop would be two 4s and a 7 and none of my suit. It was just a bad night and just reminded me not to go for agile haha
