Your Halloween Costume

According to the NY Times - I posted the article in another thread - can't remember where - Halloween is one of the holidays that make people happy. I agree - there's something in the air that night. Around here the night before is mischief night though.

Usernames and Avatars thread

No costume here, but Hubby has a mask he'l don to answer the door later in the evening, when the little kids are done and only the teenagers are out, grabbing candy and being rude. He's had the mask longer than Boo has been alive, and it still scares her. It's pretty creepy.

Does it even freak out those obnoxious teens? I'd love to see what that looks like!

What about dressing up like Storm from X-Men?

Wear that again this year and I will dress up, drive to Sarasota, and ring your bell as many times as you want.

It wasn't a sexy biker chick it was just a regular one. I promise it was nothing exciting, I am too boring to be that creative.

LOL you called it, but it's ok, I always enjoy Harry's posts, they often make me laugh : )

Halloween is just another holiday intended to get people to spend money. I try and stay away. We dress up the kids, but there is no way I will spend another dime other than for the enjoyment of the kids. I can do without.

You know I agree with you that like Valentines and a few other days these holidays were created by and for retailers looking to pump up sales. It works. They run ads that make people seem like dolts for not getting with their program of buying a bunch of totally unnecessary stuff to celebrate what is in reality a somewhat satanic holiday in a mostly christian nation. It is actually quite funny when you think about it.

That's not true - Halloween originated with Samhein, which was a pagan festival and it's also the Eve of All Saint's Day, which is a Christian holiday. If you're going to complain about pagan festivities - then you may want to get rid of your Christmas tree, which is also a pagan symbol.

We know--he tickles your sexual funny bone.

Shouldn't this thread be merged with the one about Ian Poulter's closet???

I dressed up for Halloween once, but I wasn't nearly as frightful with the mask than without so I stopped dressing up.

Whoa calm down, not complaining at all I just think it is funny. All Hallows Eve the day before All Saints Day on the Catholic Calendar. Day of the Dead in Mexico. I love those little skeleton guys they make - lots of fun. I also like feisty by the way, if that matters. Anyway, the commercialism is something that most people don't realize they have been steered into which is a curiosity more than a concern and you have to admit that to most religious (read Christian) people 'pagan' and 'satanic' are fairly close to the same thing. I am mostly Irish so I celebrate St. Patrick's Day, minus the alcohol, and of course Thanksgiving and Christmas. Easter was always big when I was little because I grew up Catholic and we still do eggs and eat lots of candy at Easter, but the rest are pretty much just good excuses to take a day off and play golf.

At that time the Church was afraid that if its holidays didn't coincide with the pagan holidays the Church would have much more difficulty converting pagans to the Church. So, many of today's Church holidays are based on old pagan holidays.

Do the boys look unhappy? (They're Basset Hounds - please take that into account when you respond.)

That is such a cute picture of the dogs, one of them is sleeping on the other ones tail. I love the devil and angel costumes. Is one more devilish then the other?

Yes, that's why Nicky is the devil. He is the sweetest craziest dog. I should make a video - he stands on his hind legs and waves his front paws.

Cute costumes. Poor dogs.

Nicer life, yes.

But the time they wear those costumes? Poor doggies.

Nah - They had the costumes on for the photo and then I took them off. They also got extra treats for being such willing participants.

Looks like Phillip is upset he wasn't the devil.

Typically, I don't dress up for halloween, this year however, my wife decided to throw a costume party at our house so I had no choice. She dressed up as a ghostly victorian lady and the man version of her costume was like $120 bucks so I opted out of the matching costume. Our two sons (4 & 1.5) dressed as skeletons (soo cute!) and every "large" adult skeleton costume left me with a wedgie and a camel toe.. (stupid costumes, I'm only 6ft, you'd think they'd fit..) So it came down to the wire and I bought one of those big black robes with a black mesh face so I looked like a faceless dude and the story I came up with was that I was a necromancer and these were my undead family/minions..

:glasses-nerdy: anyone wanna play some D&D?? :)

I just went to the bank and Trader Joe's and was a bit amazed at how many people are doing their errands in costume today.

Our downtown merchants have trick-or-treating for the kids. So mine rode their bikes to the Y and are currently marching around together, collecting goodies.
