Have you ever seen a player, seen his clubs, then immediatley judged his ability, personality, ect?

I hate to admit it, but I do. If I see you toteing nothing but Titleist Equipment that looks brand new, I will think two things- 1. Prep
2. Not a good player.

If Titleists in question are from last year but are already well used, however, I think two different things

1. Uh oh...
2. Prep who knows his stuff.

Anyone else judge like this? What are your "criteria"

I'm usually quicker to judge by things like attire, swagger, etc. It seems like really good players can be loyal to any number of different brands (old or new).

I hope you never see my golfing attire then... Cargo shorts or loose blue jeans, with a cheap polo shirt, tennis shoes, and a sun hat (brim all the way around

I should have phrased that differently. I don't really judge by anything, but I would be quicker to judge by attire than clubs, I think.

ps. Yeah, I would judge you if you were wearing jeans and tennis shoes. :)

LOL. I know, I know, I have changed my mind since, but they are so purdy...

I dont have much of a choice, I dont own any 'golf' clothes, this sport is expensive enough before that crap. Clothes are clothes.

Clothes are clothes.

For some. Just like for others clubs are clubs. We get packages at THP HQ every day, and for us, we get more excited by the apparel in many cases, than the clothes.

Let me rephrase.

I enjoy nice clothes. However, I am not in a position to buy them just so I can avoid being looked down upon at a nice course.

Its refreshing to hear somebody with their priorities straight.

ROSS... lol, I buy all my golf shirts there, and shorts as well. I usually spend about $9-13 per shirt, $10-15 per short.

I'd rather spend the money on green fees and range balls than expensive clothes.

That's exactly the way I am. You don't need to spend a lot of money to look very good on the golf course.

EDIT: I'll add that it helps that I have a local thrift shop that gets lots of stock from (I don't know where), but I've seen brands like Quagmire, Lacoste, and Travis Matthew there all brand new w/ tags, and all for right around $5 per item.

I try not to spend ANY extra money.

I am not a rough looking person, before I golf I ensure I am clean shaven, no wrinkles in clothes, ect. I have to make the choice though- do I spen 20 dollars in gas, and then 30 on shorts and a shirt, or do I play a round of golf once every month or 2?

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Sometimes I wish I was more like that.

But what would you think about someone with 20 year old Titleist blades and a new driver?

and on the clothes topic, I cant play inless im wearing a insanely bright colored shirt thats matched to my equally obnoxious plaid shorts with my white belt :) My opponents seem to find it just as distracting as casino carpeting.

I absolutely judge everyone I see by there bag. Im willing to say a good 7/10 times what you can guess is correct.

This happened to me just yesterday. I was waiting to tee off with my playing partner when the starter calls us over and tells us that our twosome is now a threesome. The guy pulls up with an R9 Supertri, R9 fairway, TM Rescue, Burner irons, 3 XFT wedges and a Method putter. I'm thinking to myself..this guy is either really good or a complete clown. Turns out after the first tee shot I had my answer. He had to have been the worst golfer I have ever seen, but hey, he had nice clubs.

This thread cracks me up cause I guess I am in the minority. Nothing cracks me up more than a guy who shows up in a 400$ outfit (Or one trying to look like a 400$ outfit) and can't play worth a lick. I guess its all just priorities. If you suck might as well look good doing it? I dunno I would rather take the money and buy some lessons but thats just me.

I wonder what people think when they see my bag...
