Skibum's thread about Oahu reminded me that I've been meaning to ask about golf on the Big Island. My wife and I are heading there on Saturday with some friends for a for a wedding. I'm the only golfer in the group of 7, but we'll be there for a week, and I could break away for one round, so I'm debating bringing my clubs. My question for those of you that have played there--is it worth it to try to play? If so, where would you play if you had just one round? We're staying really close to Mauna Lani, which looks like it has two pretty nice courses, but they are relatively expensive too.

If you're staying in Mauna Lani and want something a little cheaper, play the Waikoloa Beach or Kings course.

You are still going to pay more in the tourist area. If you have a car you have lots of options and deals on GolfNow. The course in Kona is decent and the Big Island CC is also good. For the Hawaii experience I would play the Waikoloa beach course without breaking the bank.
