Hello Everyone

I was at the Golf Lab today and these were the numbers it gave me. A bit of a shock but they are what they are. Had trouble coming from the inside(didnt really get to warm up), and the distance and spin are a little disappointing considering what they should/could be.

Situation: I currently play the R9 Supertri 10.5 degree with a ProjectX 6.0 shaft. Im planning on getting a different head soon, and was recommended the Superdeep 9.5, but would you change the shaft as well?

Spin rates were:
4200 on all of them except the one shown.

What should I do and where should I be with my clubhead speed? Does anyone have any other recommendations?

I made a thread in the Ask Andy section too but I know there is a wealth of knowledge out here. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you didn't have time to warm up and prepare the way you usually do, I wouldn't put much stock into it unless this is how it's been for you.

If I am correct your launch angles are great, I'm just spit balling here but I thought I read somewhere ideal is inbetween 12-16. You are nailing these great and noticed on the 16.8 you got a great ammount of distance, why the change to a degree lower in the head?

The only thing really different really is the sidespin, strike direction. I usually am coming from 1.5* inside and launching 3* right with a draw.

It was just what was recommended, I would assume to lower spin. Im buying a membership for the next month to get more consistent numbers as this sample was for a school assignment.

Super tri is a pretty high spin head for sure. I'd seriously consider waiting for the r11. I was trying the project x 7.0 at the thp outing and was getting spin around 2800 on a supertri head. I doubt the shaft is the issue unless its a little whippy for you're swing speed

So I'm am in no way an expert on these kinds of numbers but based on these vrs the numbers I was getting at GS/GT back on the 1st the backspin looks like its killing your distance. I'm also guessing that club head speed is the same as swing speed? If so with that swing speed you should have at least another 10 yards of carry coming if you can get those spin numbers down in the 2000-2800 range; and the 6.0 is probably the lightest flex I'd go with; if you want anything different make sure it's flex is >= to the 6.0.

Thats what I was wondering. If I can get my smash to 1.43 and spin to even 3300 Id be hitting it 290 at least. I know I have alot of stuff to work on with my swing but I was wondering how much of a role equipment really is playing in these numbers

Geez, you have some impressive numbers there buddy. The spin #'s you gave are killing you though, robbing you of some distance imo. I also have been reading your interaction with Andy so I know he's got you looking at the Superdeep with the RIP shaft. I spent a fair amount of time with the RIP while I was in Florida a few months ago. I was comparing it with the PX 7.0, and my Miyazaki Black 72g X, and the Miyazaki is the shaft that gives me the best launch #'s. As soon as I read your post, I thought that you should try this particular shaft. That being said, the RIP was my 2nd favorite and it was a fairly close race.

If I were you, why not wait til the outing? There will be enough "stouter" shafts there and we'll get you in the right one.

are you coming out of your shoes on these swings or are these at 75-80% max? If you're coming out of your shoes just to get the highest possible SS, might want to ease up a bit, with more controlled swing the other numbers participially spin should improve. id 116-118 is a controlled swing for you.. god bless ya.

I hear you, but there is too much golf that is going to be played before the outing. Im not going to keep playing a driver that I carry 250, when just a simple driver change can have me carrying an extra 30 yards easily.. with better roll potential. Andy has recommended the Superdeep w/ RIP X, or the Adams 9064LS

man you swing fast

But can I putt? Absolutely not.

Why would I do something like that? I can swing faster, but I definitely dont believe one should swing at 75% of their potential. When I drop down into the zone where the driver is fitted for me, I get better numbers. Understandable considering I am not fitted for my driver. Fickle game huh?

To be honest, the reason why I am not fit is because I knew my swingspeed was over 100, and always assumed it was under 110.

I took a demo 9064LS out right before the ice age hit the Northeast, it was sweet. I think once the the weather breaks I'm going to get fit for that(unless the white TM's grow on me before then), think i need the 70g RIP instead of the 60g one

And there's nothing wrong with the RIP/Super deep buddy. Like I said, I liked the shaft, but it launched a little to high for my liking. I'd love to see you just slap the Miyazaki black in the supertri head that you have just to see what difference it makes.

The thing is, with a high spin head, the shaft already knocks the spin down, but I am way out there. A high spin head, and a mid spin shaft have me both with 1400 revs over where I need to be. I would love to see the difference with the :miyazaki: x-stiff, but we all know how rare miyazaki is in general. Let alone in the boonies of gingertown.

Im going to try and shallow out my angle of attack a little, see what gives first

yeah, I hear ya. I wish I could send you mine to test out but as soon as I do, the sun will come out and I'll want it back. Perhaps you should look for a different head at this point. I know Andy recommended the Superdeep but I'd love to see you try what you have (PX 6.0) with an R9 original head. It may be worth a shot and you and I both know they can be found fairly inexpensively.

I wouldn't necessarily change your swing broski. Tinker with some equipment first.

My YSQ-x with the adams 9032 seems to be getting me the low spin/higher launch that I've been needing, so I bet the 9064 would be a great choice for you with that rip shaft. I was in need of a higher launch, only reason I didn't try and get something more like the rip. I'm partial to the adams woods atm (-fastline), esp vs the superdeep, my numbers where no where as good with that one but I'm sure the demo shaft was a leading reason for such.

With all the tec at your disposal I'm sure your gonna find what you need for sure. good luck and have fun :)

I know of a few that I can give a shot too. The dromos and I made eye contact on a golf porn site known as THP, and ever since then we have been giving each other "the look".

Swing tinkering is a free option, and it could help in the hong haul.

Thanks Westtex! Glad you found your moneymaker. I got lucky ending up at this place for a school project in statistics class, and now I need to go back. 60$ a month is a little steep, but Ill be using it at least 5x a week so may as well. Ill only be there for the next month anyways

Sure enough, the ft tour yielded the best results. Had to go with the 9.5. Swing was running at 113ish, smash 1.4ish, and spin at 29-33. It's a recipe for around 296 carry. Plays a beautiful 5-10 yard draw Big thanks to Andy for all of his professional help and knowledge.

Easily the most controllable driver I have ever swung. I'm impressed Callaway!
