Best classic war movie

Saving Private Ryan
Gallipoli
The Deer Hunter
Bridge on The River Kwai
Das Boot

My favorite classic war movie is probably Midway. Full Metal Jacket is probably my favorite, at least the boot camp scenes. Does The Hunt for Red October count?

In no particular order:
Fury
Patton
Dirty Dozen
Midway
Sink the Bismarck

And of course
Stripes

Bridge on the River Kwai
Saving Private Ryan

No particular order…
Thin Red Line
Apocalypse Now
Full Metal Jacket
The Dirty Dozen
Hurt Locker
Letters from Iwo Jima
The Great Escape
The Bridge over the River Kwai
The Longest Day
Patton

I could go on

one of my faves...

apocalypse now
the thin red line
we were soldiers (preferred the book)
fury (still pretty new but it gets a lot of watches here)
heartbreak ridge

So many good ones.

Do you consider a mini series as a movie? If so band of brothers is my all time favorite.

Full metal jacket which has been named plenty of times. So many others as well which have been named a bunch.

I didn't see the quintessential "join up"movie listed yet though!

I thought it was good, not at at a serious movie but at the time I was a big fan of it. As I've grown it's fallen way down on my list but that kind of comedy was the 90s.

Many good choices

I’d add Kelly’s Heroes

So many good ones, but off top of my head:
Midway (OG)
Patton
Saving Private Ryan (classic yet?)
Bridge over River Kwai
Platoon
Glory
Band of Brothers

In no particular order:

Midway
Saving Private Ryan
Sands of Iwo Jima
Back to Bataan
Hunt for Red October
Flying Leathernecks
The Green Berets
Stripes

Braveheart- is AWESOME
Forest Gump- if allowed
platoon
full Metal Jacket

i have to admit that i was not a fan of saving private ryan. i love Tom Hanks but not much else

Surprised no one has mentioned Hacksaw Ridge.

Zulu - British army vs Zulu warriors

Full Metal Jacket for me without a doubt. Brilliant film!

All good movies in my mind!

I always like the original Midway from the 1970's (the new one sucked) and A Bridge too Far.

I thought Dunkirk was really good on the big screen have not seen 1917, need to watch that in the movie room

Classic-For Whom the Bell Tolls
Modern-The Patriot

Patriot and Braveheart and two that come to mind for me

Just rewatched A Bridge to Far - stellar cast!
