The I haven't been picked for it but am still getting ready for it thread

Congrats on the shoulder tap!!

I've been in a couple events and want very, very, very much to get back to another event. So, I feel you on wanting to be ready.

For me, I'm trying to do a few things to get better and hopefully be ready should I get lucky enough to get in something again.

I'm trying to work on my swing form and get some consistency back.
I've lost a little weight and trying to get back on track and lose more both for my health and fitness level for golfing.
I plan to play more this year. I only got a couple of rounds in last year, which makes it hard to improve.
Working on my putting to try to improve my stroke and aim.
One thing that I need more work on more than my swing is the mental aspect. I've struggled in the past letting things that I shouldn't affect my performance (and sometimes even more than that). I need to be better on that front, and am working on it.
And of course, I'm trying to be more active on the forum again. I've always tried to support THP any way I can, but I've had a bit of an inactive spell there for a bit.

Congrats @mtbloco! Looking forward to seeing your road to the MC!

I don’t have a horseshoe buried you know where for getting picked for stuff like this but I am trying this year to learn the game. Forget what I think I know, blow it all up and leave it behind. Build an actual golf swing and I’m gonna work my tail off towards that 10HCP. I’m also working on being the guy that everyone wants in their foursome. I’m not super squared away on the tech end of things but I’m trying to learn that too.

Can't wait to follow your journey towards a 10!

Thanks. I excited to be a part of it and bring my journey to the forum.
You got me in your corner my friend. Enjoy it for all it has, because this is going to be amazing.

Sometimes crazy things happen on THP......in fact, it happens quite often. But if theres always one thing that makes me smile, its something like someone randomly getting shoulder tapped to get an incredible opprtunity out of nowhere. lol Congrats @mtbloco

f**k yeah! I personally don’t feel like “Fork” should be blocked given the nature of the forum?

We all like to eat? There is a Food Porn Thread? I have to respect you this year @mtbloco

I don’t have to like it, 🤣.

What????

I am blown away by this. So excited. I’ve got a lot of team MC and Team Paradise mentors to guide me through this.
So stoked to tee it up with @jdtox and win that cup!
Congrats my man!!! Welcome to a fantastic experience.

Congrats @mtbloco.

Sure I prepare to do battle with #TeamParadise against the darkside #TeamHackers. I only hope to be ready if called!
Can't wait to see the new gear from Cobra and what everyone chooses for weapons!

I won't be ready until 2023 I reckon.

congratulations and welcome to the Morgan Cup!!!👊🏻

It was incredible last year 🔥

Congrats @mtbloco !!!!!!!! I’m so happy for you and can’t wait to root you on at the MC!

@baylrballa can I borrow this?

Thread hits a little different for me since I know I will absolutely be attending one.

I’m working out 5-6 days a week. I’m eating healthy and have dropped around 10lb. With an ultimate goal of getting down 10 more.

I’m taking lessons now. I got a 6 pack of lessons and have 5 left. I’m spacing them out to every other week so that I’ll be done close to the time my season starts here.

I’m continuing my 2-3x at the range each week and I’ve really started to focus my practice instead of just banging balls. Before I allow myself to leave I have to spend at least 30 min putting.

I’m making sure to play the game strictly. I’ll be getting a legit handicap this coming season. I’ve joined a club and plan on getting out 4-5 times a week.

Let’s hope that’s enough for me to not go out and embarrass myself in front you you guys.

Edit- Wow!!! I didn’t see @JB post before making mine. Huge congrats @mtbloco way to manifest your dream! Posting in This thread seems like good luck!

welcome to the club. One quick note, you will want to shed Tapatalk as our experiences demand it. The reason being is we post a lot of pictures at these events and tapatalk wipes their servers of images after a period of time, whereas on our server they are never going away. Combine that with them selling your info vs our security.

While we never tell people how to browse and use THP, at our events we would hate for someone to lose those memories

That is one heck of a shoulder tap right there!! Congratulations @mtbloco !!

It has been quite sometime since I have been apart of an official THP event (almost 6 years now), but I am grateful of the events that was fortunate enough to be a part off. I am always hopefully that my name will get called again at some point. And it is always fun seeing first timeers get selected and knowing what a great time they have ahead of them. I am truly happy for those that get selected. I probably should be more active on the forum than I am, but I do try to get involved and comment when I have something to say that I feel is relevant. Maybe 2022 will be my return to THP glory!! If not, there is always next year!! :ROFLMAO:

Well guess what? You don’t need this thread anymore. You just got shoulder tapped. You are headed to the 2022 Morgan Cup and joining the peoples captain @jdtox as a member of Team Paradise
Holy ****!

Holy freakin' crap @mtbloco that is AMAZING! Congrats!!!

When I got picked for Regional Rivalry I worked hard on my short game and the mental aspect of the event was something I don't think I was truly prepared for. I had never played alt shot before save for a few practice rounds and that impacted me during the event. My advice to those who are prepping this season who may not have been part of events before is to think about the format and be ready. Granted, I don't play a lot of competitive golf, I know a bunch of you have, but it's something I feel gets overlooked sometimes when prepping. Definitely work on your game & your health, that's always important, and keep in mind working with teammates too!

I'll admit. I caught the THP experience bug last year playing in The Morgan Cup. I want to do more experiences! With that being said what are you doing since you know you are getting picked this year?

I am keeping myself in better health. These experiences offer good motivation but I just feel better and want to keep it going.
I am starting with lessons again. I want to tame my tempo and play the best I can. I am in a couple of leagues so this training is not going to waste
I am playing competitively more this year. You have to know if you can sink that 4 ft slider when money or trophies are on the line.
3 rounds this year and 3 rounds walked this year. All in competition. I see you walking experience.
Need to restart my live posting again.

I have made an imaginary bag of Mizuno clubs, I have looked at all the info I can find leaked on Cobra clubs. I have read through most of the Granddaddy threads (Jeez the build up to that was like a second job....kudos guys). I am trying a new golf ball. I also have decided I am getting a full bag fit every year no matter what. It is entertainment dollars for me. If I choose to buy fine but most of the time it will be to see where I am.
I stay ready . In all seriousness I would definitely stay on top of physical conditioning. Usually during the year my weight ebbs and flows, but I'd like to keep it more consistently in the 200-210 range. I use a scale that links to an app and it's pretty clear that winter is a rough time for me (was all the way up to 243 last January). Hopefully I'll be in shape for start of golf season rather than working my way into it.

I discovered this year that the short game practice area at the local range is free of charge, so I'll be spending more time than ever down there just working on chipping, pitching, and putting. I'd like to say I'll be playing more this year, but that's never a guarantee so working on what I can at least a couple times a week is a must.

I'm not a member at any clubs so the only competition I'm likely to see is hopefully another invite from my buddy to be his partner in his member-guest. I'll definitely play in a couple charity scrambles but those aren't really a competition.

I'm also on all the websites building dream bags at least a few times a week. I mean, it's winter after all so I have to do something . If selected for any event I would definitely be spending the money on a fitting to make sure I made the best choices.

Nice to see you taking steps to improve your game and body. Going to an experience will be amazing. But, please do not worry about embarrassing yourself at experience. The experience is about a lot more than just golf. The people at the experience will care more about you as a person than as a golfer.

Enjoy your journey this year.

First off congrats to @mtbloco!

I'm getting ready by getting more involved. Last spring and summer life got innthe way a bit and my posting dipped. I brought it back last quarter and have tried to keep it up so far this quarter. Being winter makes it hard to review current equipment but I try to look at new releases coming and see what I might be interested in. I've jumped back in the live round thread to dust off those skills. The main thing for me is to just be involved. If selected to something, I'll work on the game more amd be the best version of me I can, but until then it's get involved and be a small part of a huge community of awesome people

Wanted to reply to the original premise of the thread as well. I love playing competitively. I think really focusing on playing by the rules, joining competitive events, and making competition in all my rounds of golf is important. I think most will want to drive the ball well at an event and may focus a lot on that, but often where you make hay is getting the ball in the hole. Hitting short game shots is huge and helps the team succeed so practice there is very important as well.

On topic after an awesome distraction. 😈

I’ve drooled over and dreamed about nearly every THP experience and event going back to when I joined. I have researched and spec’d out what feels like an infinite number of clubs and shafts and adjusted my work calendar just in case so many times that it is a pokable joke among colleagues.

Hardest part is the initial disappointment when the picks are in and the dreaming ends. But ghat sting moves on quickly. I then switch to my community hat and do my best to support and learn through their eyes and shares. As I experienced last year in NM, that’s an amazing feeling. Good people here.

2022? I will dream about every single one.
