Only 2 pages into this thread so far but this is more on the right track in my opinion.If you want to roll the ball back for the pros, fine. Long hitters will still have an advantage. The simple solution on the pro tours is to grow the rough higher. Make it more difficult hit shots if you miss the fairway. LEAVE amateur golf alone.
All sports are going through this. It's evolution, athleticism, training, etc. If you measure the avg. NBA vertical or the avg. NFL 40 meter dash time vs 20 years ago it wouldn't even be close. Make the game more finesse and skill (Steph Curry revolutionized the game like this), don't raise the hoop. Athleticism and strength should still be rewarded but not the end-all be-all. Don't push back the fences. MLB messed up by juicing baseballs and rolling them back. Be smart and figure out a way to reward smart and precise play.
