Corona Virus/COVID19: Local Impact

Financially viable for whom? The 1/2 cart rate at my course is $20. The course will gladly give you one for $40.

That said; I agree with you. I often play as a single in FL during the winter months. I wasn't a fan of the practice before Covid-19 but it had to do with being paired with chain smokers on 2 occasions.
That cart fee though 👀

Just checked my inbox and the club sent out the email today advertising these. They cited "reducing the stress of having four power carts per foursome" and "enjoying the social activity of sharing a cart with a friend" not to mention returning the cart rental rates back to regular levels.

It's really not a bad idea and if it makes people feel safer and/or helps keep people healthy I'm on board. Our club quietly has removed the ball retrievers off of the flag sticks and we are (with the exception of seating in the bar and dining room) back to full go, just in time for the men's leagues to kick off tonight. Excitement is building for tee off in about 4 hours.

I don’t think I’m going to want to share a cart after this COVID-19 situation is over...

One cart to every golfer should be the new normal, even with cart path only in effect, sub 4 hour rounds have become the norm.

I know that this isn’t financially viable.

I haven't taken a cart since it started, but I have noticed that pace of play on the courses has been way faster. Also noticed how a 4 some of all riders in their own carts was pretty much keeping up with me and @jdtox walking today and we played in 3.5.

We need sports back.
Maybe not for everyone, but Supercross is back. All the remaining races for the season will be held in Salt Lake City, televised on NBCSN Wednesday nights and Sundays for the next three weeks to finish their season (six more races). Watched the first one yesterday, looked kind of wierd without anyone in the stands, but the racing is still good.

OMG finally a little bit of normal today. Restaurants are not open yet, but actually going into my office (still no customers allowed till Friday) and going to WaWa for lunch.

Amazing how important are the little things you complain about are some of the things you really take for granted.
As a 'work from home' guy... I cannot tell you how much I miss the peace and quiet. Wowsa I miss it.

I enjoy walking and their cart fee makes it an easy decision. Thankfully, the course designers thought about walkers. FL courses....not so much!

Course paired us with two good guys for yesterday's 2nd round. One guy was a 57 year (stick) who carried his bag. He started with a 6-pack in there! He finished with 3 birdies and a score in the mid 70s. 6,500+ yard tees, 72.2 rating and 143 slope. Impressive. I'm a member of the push cart mafia.

P.S. We played round 1 in 3:40 and followed four carts. We waited on them on two holes. Forgot to look at the time for round 2 but guessing it was similar. Our normal group could easily make it around in under 3:30 but we like to enjoy our golf. There's not a lot of dilly-dally when it's your turn to hit.

I was sitting round table with some guys at the club yesterday and they were joking about how nice single carts are hahaha - Talking about basically moving into the thing for four hours with all their stuff spread out.

Too funny.

Finn Scooters and single cart options literally change the game...Courses need to do their research because adding or switching fleet does not cost all that much When you add in the extra tee times that can take place and happier golfers.

And the toll on the course - with 4 carts instead of 2 - that's what, 1200 lbs for a cart?

I suspect we will have lighter single vehicles soon.

That was pretty amazing, though we did let a single and a twosome in a cart pass us. I wonder if those 4 would have actually have been that close or not.

The best thing about the Covid golfing has been the single cart. I forgot how nice it was until I was put in a cart last round with a friend who dumped me off at 110 yards with one club and drove to the green. I chunked the shot, had no club for the next and no putter when I used the wrong club to get onto the green. It has been so nice, I briefly researched buying my own cart to take to the course. Unfortunately, a number of courses don't let you bring your own cart.

My family from OK just visited. While my sister-in-law was here, her company instituted a policy that she has to quarantine 2 weeks for visiting us. No symptoms from anyone and no contact with anyone that has tested positive. No offer to let her test negative to return to work.

Looks like Pfizer is the latest pharma company to have poor vaccine trial results. This is like the space race for big pharma, good thing everyone and their brother is working on a solution.
I had the wrong clinical trial here, the poor trial results were not for the covid vaccine.

On another note, this chart continues to look better by the day. I really hope other events do not cause a spike in cases because the state is finally reopening!

That seems... illegal.

The thing is, she is high up in the HR dept. my company made me quarantine back in March, but it was after a cruise and right when everything went crazy. This didn’t make sense that they didn’t tell her before she left on vacation.

Sounds like Michigan is finally going to lift the stay home order next week. Restaurants will open with restrictions. News conference coming at 3.

That's just wrong. Most companies just do health checks, then if any symptoms, get a test. If negative, come back to work. Odd to say the least.

I could be a golf scooter'er

Gyms, hair salons, and casinos will remain closed however.

I don’t know if it’s one person to a cart or the spread out tee times, but I have been really enjoying the one person cart rule. My rounds have been 4 hrs and under.

I wonder if courses will see the additional speed rounds go when not 2 to a cart and move toward those motorcycle scooter looking carts or keeping one person per cart permanently.

Courses make a good percentage of revenue from cart rentals. I'm thinking they would like requiring 1 person per cart and get more rentals.

If they have enough carts in their fleet, sure...

It will eff up the course more quickly. No one wants that...

Jeez, faster rounds with single carts? You would think so, but yesterday didn’t appear to jive with that scenario. My guess is fewer carts meant that: 1- people waiting longer to tee off because they’re waiting for a cart to turn over. 2: because people THINK there are fewer people out, they don’t need to “move things along”, especially when there are a lot more walkers out. Even though they obviously saw the ‘crowd’ waiting around the Pro shop. Usually nobody standing around, 15-20 yesterday (generally keeping SD apart). While some were waiting for carts, the walkers had to wait for the carts as well to keep the pairing sheets in order. I think personally, that the walkers should have been put out as a group on their own and the cart folks get out when they can.
