I feel you on Victory. All the comments on the construction are true. Course conditions are very subjective but it wasn't your cup of tea that day. I really started to enjoy playing there after I knew the course a bit. Let's be honest there are some blind shots and some gimmicky holes. You cannot take your attention away for one second on 8 and 9 for example or you are looking for where to drop. Founders course is a good course as well with some similar issues. Blind shots and gimmicks but once you play a time or 2 you know where to be bold. I like both courses or I wouldn't drive out from Gilbert to play them. Also usually better prices then the other phx area courses

Here is our review: We stayed at the Wigwam Resort for three nights in a casita right on the Blue course #1 hole, loved it! Great food at Litchfield's.We played the Gold course and it was fine. Crowded practice facilities and slow play, but we played with two great local guys that made it very enjoyable. Then we played at Verrado Victory course and it was OK, but not ready for prime time, IMHO. Wished we would have played at the Founder's course. Today we played at Wickenburg Ranch and it is easily one of our all time favorites! First rate in any and all measures.

All in all, it has been a wonderful golf vacation. Staying in Wickenburg tonight and going back to Flag tomorrow and will play Oakcreek next weekend, weather permitting.

Oh, down at this altitude and being a little tired, the tips on the 18th at the Victory course was beyond my meager ability. At the next one down, I hit a little right and was 20' short of making it to the fairway.

And so goes my golf adventure because my young child bride beat me on each course, I have taught her too well! I am very proud of her!

Thanks for the insight, I was always at Wigwam I feel like when I lived out in the West Valley, definitely slow play course. I really, really need to get out to Wickenburg, why did I hear that was going private?

Playing Grandy Canyon Uni course this Tuesday, has anyone played there? I've never been out there but looking forward to it. Haven't played in a while so this should be interesting

Grand Canyon U is a decent track. There's nothing really spectacular about the layout and I've only played it twice but the course conditions were excellent both times that I've played (once in the winter and once in the dead middle of summer). Have a blast!

wasn't expecting the course to be as long as it was, we played just in front of tips at like 6900 yds. I usually don't play well on courses I've never played but was surprised to squeak out of there with an 88 with bunker trouble. great course for GCU/Maryvale

anyone playing this week in Gilbert?

Well I was thinking maybe tomorrow or Wed. But now I am hesitant since my wife may have a baby at any minute lol... Thought I was in the clear this week since I am on PTO but she's having contractions and is thinking it's close.

Kind of off topic, but we close on our new to us home in Oakcreek (about 4 minutes from SGR shown above) a week from Monday so this will be our new home.

Yes! Expect a "visitor" soon!

we used to take May/June golf trips to the Phoenix and Tuscon areas some 25 years ago. We like the low crowds, low cost and dry weather. 100 and low humidity is like a perfect day for us. Troon, wigwam, point at south mountain, Kierland, Sedona are courses I can remember by name. We also played a set of courses in a Del Web community up in Surprise as well. I recall the reason is they had few forced carries which helped guys of different skill levels

can you guys make some sleeper recommendations for us. Courses in great shape that are fun for handicaps from 8 to 25?

We played the Victory Course at Verrado yesterday that I would highly recommend. Southern Dunes and We Ko PA are must plays also. Another track that doesn't get a lot of love but is always in great shape is the Grand Canyon University Course (formerly Maryvale, IIRC). Let us know when you are heading out. I'm sure we could get a couple of groups to greet you and have a good time. ;)

these courses all look great! looks like a lot has changed in 25 years as I'd expect given the growth. Courses on Indian reservations, courses that can be walked, and courses without houses(y)(y) If not this May then we get out next. The We Lo PA course might be a nice area to stay as well. I'm guessing that is near the edge of civilization?

Yes. We Ko Pa is in Fountain Hills on the very east edge of the Valley. They have a nice casino and hotel and the stay and play packages in the summer are really good. Scottsdale is just a hop skip and jump away.

Note - May is overseed month, so courses are changing grasses. Wait til June. Play Verde River, Trilogy at Vistancia, Estrella Mountain, Verrado
