The Worst Name in Sports thread got me to thinking of famous names - but not famous people - I’ve encountered. How about you?
I once interviewed a MS Engineering candidate for an open position. His name was David Berkowitz.
I worked with John Dean, Roger Moore, and Bobby Hull.
At some point, we need to face the fact that we have run out of time.
We're going to get to 10,000,000 posts, just not by July 20. It's looking more like October-November.
It's not that we haven't done well - our posting rate is up over 20% from that of our march to 9,000,000. It's just that...
We just cracked the 16,000 post marker last week. The ten extra posts per week initiative appears to have had little impact, but by all means keep trying. We are roughly 500 posts/week ahead of the pace we maintained to reach 9 million, which gets us to 10 million sometime in October.
Let's...
In my (usually) weekly status report thread on our march to 10,000,000 posts, @War Eagle and I were trading thoughts on what it will take to get there by @JB ‘s birthday on July 20, thereby triggering massive celebration on THP.
I noted that we could get to the number of weekly posts we need...
We just made it over 17,000 posts last week, below both our post-9 million weekly average and the 27,111 weekly rate we need to meet our target date of July 20.
Here are the updated graphics:
We're 25% of the way since we started to push for 10 million after we reached 9,000,000 last fall. We returned to a more typical daily rate of 2,603 after a Christmas/New Year's dip in activity.
At our current daily rates of 2,600-2,700, we will reach 10,000,000 in October. To reach 10,000,000...
A drop in posting could be expected at the end of the year, and that's what we've seen. Since we reached 9,000,000, we are 1,070 posts per day behind the rate needed to get to 10,000,000 by July 20. Instead, we're looking at early October at our current pace.
Shown below are the updated tables...
Maybe I'll lie low more often, because in the four weeks since I last updated the data, we have averaged just over 3,000 posts per day. That is still short of where we need to be, but we are slowing the leakage.
Because I don't have numbers for the three weeks I missed, I simply plugged in...
This is a two week update. In the last two weeks we averaged daily rates of 2,463 and 2.239, respectively. That compares to the 2,164 daily rate we maintained in the first nine months of 2023 on our way to 9,000,000, and the 3,544 posts we need to get to our target by July 20.
For this week...
Although we fell short of the required 3,438 posts per day, we logged a still-impressive 2,787 posts daily, or 19,509 per week. The required daily average posts increased to 3,454. We really need to bend the blue line to keep the daily target manageable.
Here is the data table
Here is the...
This is the first status report on our quest to get to 10,000,000 posts by July 20. That's @JB's birthday, and he has indicated quite the celebration will follow.
Looking at past performance, it's a daunting challenge. At 9,000,000 posts, we were looking at roughly 3,500 posts per day to get...
With a killer week, we passed 9,000,00 posts on October 3. We are on to 10,000,000 posts by July 20, but here are the final grapphics for 9,000,000. There will be more analysis in the 10,000,000 posts update.
Last but not least . . .
The All-Pro tight end died in a small plane crash in Lake Placid, NY. He was 70.

We beat our YTD daily posting average by a microschnitz. Looks like Friday for post 9,000,000.
Here is the weekly graph.
Here is the data table.
Finally, the Spork-O-Meter TM 2.0.
A little late with the wrap-up, but 15,435 posts made for our best week since June 24. Maintaining that pace will get us to 9 million in the first week of October.
Here are the daily rates by week (black line) and how they compare to the YTD numbers (red line.) You can see we've had a long...
Your wish is granted.
We had our best week in some time, cracking the 14,000 post total for the week. On the downside, our YTD weekly post total has fallen consistently, recently falling below 15,000. We have fewer than 50,000 posts to go. At current trajectories, we should see our 9,000,000th...
It's been a while since I updated our progress here, but there hasn't been much good news to report.
The blue line has gone parabolic: We now need 4,205 posts per day to reach our August 31 target date. That's just about double our YTD daily average. So we probably won't see our 9,000,000th...
