    The 60 and over Thread

My push cart has a seat attachment. Its been a lifesaver for a couple years. But even with that, lately I can't walk 18 holes. The back pain is too much. I can barely manage 9. I don't have a membership that includes unlimited golf. So I just go online and pick the hot deals that makes 18...

I just shortened it a little at the top. Helps prevent me from bending the elbow on the backswing. Took a few tries at the range. At first shots were pushing to the right. But I zoned in on what works best for me with the stance and grip. I don't know if its causing less distance. Maybe...

    The 60 and over Thread

Haven't been golfing much lately. Tweaked the back a few weeks ago. I already have issues with it. So I thought I'd just give it a little rest for few couple weeks. Been feeling better lately using a combo of Voltaren and Lidocaine. Went out and played 9 holes today. They paired me with a...

    The 60 and over Thread

Before the other day I haven't been to the course for a several weeks. Played twice a week on the sim though. I somehow lost the 50 yard wedge shot that was so good a few months ago. Its a straight up shank. I was afraid to play on the course if I'm gonna shank the chips. But low and...

Pre-Paid Weekend Tee Times - Are they a thing in your area?

Courses around my area don't require prepay. Prepaying online does knock off a few bucks. I prepay online more often since it saves me money. Especially where there is a hot deal that knocks off about 40 percent.

I try to think about the image when there is a still picture of a pro right after impact and the club head is pointed to the target during the follow through. His head is still down at that point. When I take my practice swings I try to mimic that look. Then do the same when I hit the ball...

A softer ball seems to get me a few more yards with the driver. I've been using a Bridgestone extra soft or Callaway Supersoft. When I tried another ball my it did feel different. And my playing partners even noticed the ball coming off the driver face didn't have the same zip the softer...

I saw the back specialist a few days ago. He prescribed a muscle relaxer and Voltaren cream. Didn't like the pill. Made me sleepy. I used the cream this morning to walk my two dogs. The usual pain in the left side wasn't near as bad. I'm hoping that might be something that works for me...

Coldest temp you have golfed in so far in 2024…?

My home course won't let us start until the temp hits 38 and any morning frost is melted. Sometimes the frost hangs around at 38 when the green is in a shadow. So we wait even longer. But this year has actually been pretty mild and not much frost. Coldest start time for me was around 40 a...

At what point in a new year do you typically start playing good golf?

Better question for me is at what point am I not as bad. Typically the hot summer months because I get more distance with rollouts on dry fairways.

Yeah, I know how that goes. I had a couple good rounds where I was hitting better shots. The wedges were working good. Then the last couple rounds a little off. The usually reliable driver missed more fairways than hit. The wedges were a little off where I left them short or pulled left. I...

There are now more par 4's I can't reach in two from the white tees. A couple years ago there were two that I had trouble reaching in two. Now there are 4 I definitely cannot get there in two. A good drive and good fairway wood shot gets me around 380. 3 holes are over 400. The 385 yard...

If you are not a member anywhere - what makes your “most played” course the one you play more often..?

I play Rancho Del Rey golf course in Atwater California. Mainly because its only 8 miles away.

When I get tired I tend to hit fatter shots. The only way to avoid that is a more closed stance. But that typically results in pulling to the left with a little draw.

    The 60 and over Thread

My course has a 195 yard par 3. Its a hole where I am very happy with bogey. The only club that can reach for me is the driver. Which is a risk because behind the green is water. So I just hit the 5 wood around 180. Chip on and two putt for the bogey. 3 wood's not an option. Off the deck...

We're expecting a lot of rain for the next week to week and a half. Today is the last day of no rain. So I thought I'd take advantage. Very surprised that it wasn't that busy. I guess some people thought the rain was coming today. We had a 7:48 tee time and finished by 11:30. That would be...

I can get around 40 with a full swing. It sure goes pretty high with a full swing. Its still work in progress to get the distance dialed down. So its not a club I use often. It has bailed me out when I'm behind a greenside tree and the only shot to the green is over the tree.

    If you are over 60....?

20 years ago I was only an occasional golfer. Breaking 100 was a challenge. So definitely the older me would win every time. Even with the shorter drives.
