1/4" steps between irons vs 1/2"?

Since it is all but impossible for me to try single length irons right now I can't help but wonder how adjusting my current irons to only be .25" between clubs instead of the normal .5" would work.
Has anyone ever done anything similar?

I did this very thing and have 1/3 sw gaps to simulate a moi matched set with progressive shaft weights from heavy wedges to light long irons. Similar to DG AMT shafts which I also have and love.

My experience has been pretty positive, provided that your lie is properly adjusted to your specs, I had to extend my 6 iron to gap it slightly better but the rest of the set remains the same.

I used AXE tour X shafts from 85g to 125g in wedges.

Outside of my Wishon single-length set, which has been confiscated by my brother, I build all mine with 3/8 inch steps. I suppose at some point you might have to worry about loft/distance compression. From the studies I have seen, if you have 12 yard gaps between clubs, 9-10 of those can be attributed to the loft and 2-3 yards to the length change.
