2012 Project X PXi Iron Shafts

That makes sense. Man it sure would be easier if things were more uniform.

Agreed. But what's the fun in that? Funny thing is, last time I was on the Optimizer it recommended the KBS Tour in Xstiff (soft stepped) like it always does (which kind of pisses me off) and then the second reco was the PX 5.5. Go figure.

last time I called for uniformity TC called me a socialist haha

I'm all for Socialism dude. Especially in the golf industry.

See, that's crazy to me. I get the reasoning behind it, but dang. It makes pondering confusing as hell. Either way, I sort of want these shafts if they are available. I have no clue how they'll work for me or what freaking flex to get, but I do know they look awesome and I like what I've read about them.

Yeah Hawk! haha, its not that you, TC, myself or anyone can handle the 6.0's but they're a stout, heavy shaft. Which is fine for when you're energized imo. After like 40 swings I was dying haha. While I kept the shaft on plane a bit easier, it was harder to start it on the right plane for me at least.

So, how does the 5.0 or 5.5 react for you when you are energized? What are the negatives there (if any)?

Sorry, by the way. I have no doubt this is very annoying.

the 5.0 was the most consistant shaft I've hit yet I think. It felt smooth and really easy to load during my swing. I didnt feel like I could overload it either. The PX's seem just real stout ingeneral adn it was the first time with a PX shaft I felt it was easy to swing. I've hit the 5.5 flighted before and liked it but if I go with with a reg+ (5.0, 5.5 flighted) the 5.0 felt better for my swing. Now I did have quite a different angle of attack before and I'll be doing another mizuno optimizer soon. So the shaft recommendation may change.

Its not at all!!! Dude look at the Modus thread... I can see JB wanting to put my iron order in now so I can't talk myself into a change haha.

And let's not forget that the PXi's are much lighter than the PX's. I just know that I love the idea of a steel shaft under 110 grams that plays to a stiff flex. It's one of the reasons I'm obsessed with the Nippon 1050 Series to be honest. I don't want iron shafts > 125 grams anymore.

I loved the 1050 series bro. I like where they took the weight from too. If these were an option I'd look at the 5.5 too.

How would you compare the Nippon 1050's to the KBS tours and PX line?

Lots of good info in here guys. I appreciate it.

I hear ya, TC. I'm still trying to figure all this stuff out, but what I do know if I don't want those heavy shafts (getting older, dammit!) and the sub 100g shafts have all been to light for me to control - total army golf with all of them. That 110-120g range seems to be a real sweet spot for me. Really want to try these PXi's but can't find them locally yet

For me: I love the KBS Tours. So I should say that first and foremost. The product works well for me and it feels good in my hands. However, I've become a bit obsessed with lighter weight steel shafts that still offer the flight/launch that I prefer. I think that Nippon is very good at that. The Nippon feels nice too, so that helps. I've always wanted PX shafts to work better for me (b/c that's what Phil plays) but they just don't feel great in my hands. It makes me sick. I get decent #'s out of them, but the KBS and the Nippon's blow them away in the feel department for me. I could play PX's, and if I ever did, it would be the PXi's for sure. I love the weight range they offer. That in itself entices the crap out of me. If these were available to Cleveland Staffers, I'd seriously have to think about them.

I bet you were tempted to rock those i20's w/ that CFS shaft. It weighs in at 109grams in stiff flex, which is about on par with the PXi 5.5's. Super intriguing.

They are part of the custom catalog from Cleveland, so maybe they'll allow us to choose them.

Really? Where is this catalog?

One more question for you TC. What kind of ball flight do you normally see between the KBS tours and the Nippons?

I don't know if these will be an option for Callaway for the MC 2.0 but if they were they would be in my irons. If you tell me you can give me the ball flight and spin rates of my current PX shafts with 25 grams less weight than I would play them tomorrow.

I actually see a little higher ball flight with the KBS Tours. It's not by much but it's there (not by the naked eye but confirmed on a Vector). In fact, my avg shot height with the Nippon, in a 6iron, was 42' and my avg with the KBS Tour was 46'. My carry distance was a bit longer with the Tours though, by about 4 yards. They are so close it's not even funny to be honest.

I appreciate the info. I very much like the KBS tours and I am likely trying to find a solution that is looking for a problem. I feel I hit KBS tours a bit high and wanted to see what options could bring it down just a little. Do you have any expirence with the DG SL line?

Awesome! Thanks hawk. Well, after looking through it, the only Nippon option is the 950, which means I'm almost certain I'll be getting the PXi's now.
you will be bad arse with some pxi's in some 588 or CG17's.

No sir, I don't. I am a long way from a DG fan though. I've never ever been fond of them and will avoid them like the plague.
