2024 Cobra King Tec, King Tec-X, and King Tec-X One Length Irons

Hit 12 greens in my last round with these irons. They are really starting to play nice.
That's pretty damn solid. Are you getting good descent angles as well or are they running out a bit for you?

Mostly good descent angle. Don't have to travel too far to repair ball mark

Yea I've been seeing really good numbers for mine, so even with the lower spin these have been really good at sticking where I want them too, which is great to see.

Same for me with my X’s - great descent angle means slightly lower spin is basically irrelevant for holding greens. I can’t think of one time this year that I’ve been frustrated by a ball that I thought should have stayed on the green running off.

Same. I never have to go very far from my ball to repair a mark. My descent angle is pretty good. It consistently shows about 40⁰ with most irons on trackman. And I'd say it's pretty consistent to what I see performance-wise on golf course.

I feel like these irons are going to be very, very important at Victoria National. The big dog and tee shots always get all the love but Vic places such a premium on approach shots.

When I swing them well my dispersion pattern is pretty darn good. Hopefully I swing them well.

My King Tec X made it back to me from the loan to @Golf Jones , so I will be taking them back out after the Morgan Cup for some more experience, and comparison to the 3DP Tours.
I'm happy they made it back to you, safe and sound. My eternal gratitude to you, for allowing me to scratch that itch prior to the big dance.

Had a little session into my net in the backyard this morning. I’ve been working through some things to improve my strike quality and oh my goodness. When you pure one on the King Tec X, it’s like the ball wasn’t even there. So smooth!

For being lower spinning that a lot of other irons I've played, they still had plenty of stopping power for me on the green at Victoria National. A place where you need that stopping power, and had quite a few that stopped right by the pitch mark even on the greens running 12+ on the stimp out there. Only times I had some issues sticking the green were out of the crazy rough they have, which really isn't the irons fault at that point. You basically had grass covering the entire face of the iron at impact on those.

I really enjoyed my King Tec at Victoria National. They are a great example of a situation that my preconceived notions led me to feel one way, but then the reality of the irons far exceeded my expectations. From 5i through PW, I expected to hit each shot well (that obviously isn't my reality), but I felt confident through the set. One of the best shots I hit all weekend was the 2nd shot into #1 from 200y and the fact that the 5i could have produced that shot, in that moment, was a bit shocking to me. I hadn't played anything longer than a 6i in a few years, but this 5i has been so much since adding it to the bag several weeks ago.

As a side note, I don't recall hitting a green with an iron approach that didn't hold the green. My ignorance led me to believe, from the beginning, that I would struggle holding greens with stronger lofted clubs and lower spin but that has been far from the case.

For the end of the season/off season, I'm going to test the 9 & PW out a bunch against the King Tours 9 & PW. They were the only clubs in the set I was oddly struggling with in terms of distance consistency. I may even fiddle around with a combo set of Tec and Tours to see how that works out for me since I have both here. They do blend really well visually but there is no denying the performance of the King Tec long irons for me.

Oh I love the thought of a combo Tour/Tec. Very interested in following along with this.

For me the 9 and PW were launching too high with not enough spin. With as high as you hit the ball I'd imagine you might be experiencing the same issue.

To echo others thoughts, the King Tec performed beautifully at Victoria National for the Morgan Cup. Outside of my wedges they were the best performers for me those two days. Even out of the lush thick rough The Vic presented us I had no issues whatsoever. Really fun set of irons to game.

After my self diagnosis of a flaw I had going on for a bit these irons came back to life for me. I have a ton of confidence with them and they just flat out perform. I hit a couple of 4i yesterday that reminds me why I go that low on the irons. This might be my last set with the 4i but it is an easy club to hit for me.

After returning home from the Morgan Cup I took almost a full week off before getting to play nine after work Friday, but sickness and schedule have kept me from getting out since that point. Friday, during lunch, I ran just down the street to the course near my work and thought it would be wise to hit a few golf balls to work off the rust, but that session turned into hitting approximately 37 consecutive hosel rockets. I couldn't feel what I was doing wrong and was about ready to just leave, but decided to dial things WAY back and just take a few partial swings at 50%. All of a sudden I was finding center-face and was reminded that less is definitely more with the King Tec irons. I left the range thankful for the positive ending to the session and hopeful it would carry over to the evening round. It did. I hit 7/9 GIR (#1 missed 6' to the left; #5 missed 3' to the left) in one of my best iron performances ever. We even played two more after our nine as we worked our way back towards where we keep the cart and I hit those two GIR as well.

The King Tec irons have been a big part of my lowering scores and hdcp this season. When I just get out of the way they are so much fun to hit.

37 consecutive hosel rockets is one kind of consistency, and everyone wants consistency! 🤣 Glad you got it straightened out

That combo could be a pretty fun set of irons to knock around

I mean I'm lucky enough to have both so why not have some fun.

So I've used a bit of both the King Tour's and King Tec's recently again to get some more testing back and forth.

The King Tec's sound fantastic on well struck shots and that continues to ring true. I'm not in love audibly with the sound on miss hits, but that's on me for missing the center of the face. The flight is strong and the distance is really good on the 4-7i for me.

This is where I'm finding myself in a bit of a pickle and why I'm leaning towards a combo. The King Tour 8-PW feel better. Not just in terms of feel for hitting the ball, but the flight, the spin, and the distances are all more consistent for me. Where the King Tec's have shined really bright with the mid to long irons, the King Tours (and maybe understandably so) feel better and more consistent in the short irons.

Now, the King Tec's are doing exactly what they are supposed to. They spin a bit less, get a bit more distance, and still elevate the ball just fine if not better than the King Tours. I think that's where I'm actually running into the problems with the shorter irons. I am a very high ball hitter, and the King Tec's (for me) may be getting up a bit too high with the short irons based on their design. So where i am getting the benefit and help on the longer irons, it's moving towards a bit too high in the shorter ones. I've already lofted the short irons down too, which did help a little, but that's where I am.

They are both fantastic sets of irons that do what they intend to do, and now I'm just in a position to figure out what that combo might look like for me. On the bright side, Cobra has done such a fantastic job aesthetically, that they blend in to each other extremely well.
