2024 Cobra King Tec, King Tec-X, and King Tec-X One Length Irons

The TecX is the head I’ve picked. It is incredibly forgiving. I missed someway out on the toe or more toward the heel than I find remotely comfortable. The X saved me. There was a little loss but nothing stark. The low heels and toes still flew 160 or more. Those stayed closer to the target than some of the ones Zi smashed with a bit of shut face.

Both Tec and TecX look fantastic. They’re more shiny than I expected from the photos. The strike feels and sounds amazing. Tec is a bit softer feeling and sounding. The best way I can describe X is that has a less soft sound at impact. It feels as good as Tec. The X looks pretty thin from the top.

I’ll probably go a degree weak and will go 1” over Cobra standard length and 2° flat.

Shaft is another story for a post in the shafts thread.
That toe forgiveness is something I remember in my limited swings, which is more my miss.

All these feedback by @Parrot has me thinking the King Tec X may be the right call for me. Would love the toe miss forgiveness and I like those spin numbers.

Hell he's got me thinking they’d be the right call for most people…myself included.

What is the difference in spin between Tec and the X?
Not a ton. @Parrot isn't a high spin guy. Doesn't deliver a lot of loft and is generally square to closed, so the difference for him on same strikes was only a couple/few hundred revs and the average was pretty close. I've seen some players have more, but it looks to lean more towards less than the loft difference would imply than more, from what I've seen so far.

I had planned on doing a little comparison session and vid early last week on that. I didn't know my back was going to fall apart or I would have done it sooner.

Same! I was thinking Tec souls be the runaway favorite but it looks like the Tec X packs more than a little extra distance into it.

I am also a low spin iron guy so will need to check them out. Hopefully the offset isn't so great.

I keep looking at the King Tec-X One Length irons.

I’m probably not the guy to ask that because I’m fairly low spin. But, I don’t foresee a problem with stopping power on the course for 8-PW. With the AJs I’m playing now, 8 stops within a step or two and 9 and PW stop within a step of their ball marks.

It didn't jump out to me but I’m used to looking down at Aerojets. It’s a tad less than my AJs

Went out to my local shop and asked the guy if they had the heads to try. He couldn’t find the other shafts with the adapter so hit both with the kbs tour lite they had.

For the life of me I could not hit the Tec X. Not sure if it was the weight or what, but it felt harder to hit (crazy right?)

The Tec though. Ohhhh myyyyy goooosssshhh. They’re basically perfect.

On average (minus the terrible shots) saw I was longer by 10 yards carry. My misses were a bit straighter, and still carried my average current distance (currently using 2021 P770s)

Def going to have to go back to get a proper fitting.

Tomorrow morning I am going to be doing some testing of both of these

Love to hear that kind of performance on misses. The extra 10 yards will be nice too.

Can't wait to hear about your results.

Give me all the juicy details of the launch and height from the X

I would never do this most likely, but has anybody ever done a partial OL set in the 4/5/6 irons?

I don’t think so for me. I have done it twice, and while successful, I am having the most success with my current set of KING Tours.
I will be excited to see what you come up with in club selection!

A friend of mine does and he swears by it

This question is borderline unfair, but how much of the success is in the irons and how much is in the work you’ve been putting in, if you had to assign credit.

At that point just play hybrids. Will be easier to elevate.

I could see that being pretty helpful for lower speed/consistency guys, especially since Cobra built OL off the X platform this time around.

That's a very good point too. Probably just easier to hit in general as well.
