I know they won't be a direct comparison of apples to apples, but I'm curious as to how the trade-offs play out. I feel like my swing is in a better spot than it was a month ago and that I can provide a consistent enough swing to get some accurate numbers. I just need to find access to a launch monitor so I have actual numbers.Oh thats interesting. Love to see some data differences
Cannot wait to read you comparison to the King Tours. The boss gave me the "ok" to order a King Tec 7i in the next couple of weeks! Very, very anxious to get it in hand and compare to my King Tours!
Appreciate that!I will try to get to the shop to do this for you later this week.
I was already excited to get one of these hand, but now I'm even more so.Okay.
Both sets have been hit and hit a lot.
First up the "in hand". They look good. Really good. I have been both complimentary and critical in the past of this lineup, but there isnt a lot to be critical about the appearance here in my opinion. They modeled it well to fit in line with what exists in the more aspirational set in their lineup. The edges are soft without being dull if that makes sense and both the TEC and TEC X offer a comfortable look. What I mean by that is while there might be some demand, there isn't anything scary about them.
In hand I still had to pick up the iron to tell which one I was holding unless I was holding them together. Starting with the X, they nailed the sound. Powerful, full, without giving off any of the hollow you might expect. There is a mildly soft feeling through the audible impact, but generally this feels powerful. Moving to the non X, the feel stayed similar. The sound has a slightly different pitch to it, but only the most discerning ear would pick it up. I can't imagine too many would struggle with feel or sound, as it doesnt stray too far, but overall just gets better.
I played the previous two generations for a lengthy period of time before passing one set to a THPer in a contest (custom shafts and all) and the other to @Hawk with more custom shafts haha. I have the experience here and I honestly was expected to see something pretty similar. I didnt. The X launched the ball nearly a full degree higher than my notes show from previous. Now that could be GolfTEC work or it could be equipment work. I gave those sets away as mentioned above to compare, but getting more launch out of X was pretty darn interesting. The Tec launch angle was similar. Ball speed up on both sets, which I expected based on design.
Being that I only hit them indoors, I want to say one piece that stood out to me. There was a ball today that I missed a good half inch towards the toe side with the X iron and it stayed its line far better than it should and I only lost about 4 mph ball speed. Again, indoor effect sure, but that is something I didnt expect and was pleasantly surprised.
I didnt chart distance, because I was using someone else's bay and didnt know how to save, but more coming for sure.
Powerful is a great description of what I experienced with the X. And saw. Good strikes amazed me. The X handles misses incredibly well. I had a less swings with the Tec because the X did everything I wanted and handled my toe miss so well. That's not to say the Tec isn't as good or that it wasn't a good fit. The Tec is a great club and I could play it but I get more from the X on my miss, which is to be expected.Powerful, full, without giving off any of the hollow you might expect. There is a mildly soft feeling through the audible impact, but generally this feels powerful.
Great feedback. I’m loving everything I’m hearing.Okay.

Being the ‘20 Forged Tec is currently in the bag, to hear this feedback gets me excited as I am still pretty smitten with the current sticks.Okay.

What are your perceived number differences between the Tec irons and the LIMIT3D irons? I would think that the ball speed is a bit higher with the Tec, no?Being the ‘20 Forged Tec is currently in the bag, to hear this feedback gets me excited as I am still pretty smitten with the current sticks.
That settles itOkay.

I would think simply by design the Tec would be higher ballspeed. Hopefully I can get to the range this weekend that has the LIMIT3D head to compare. What are your perceived number differences between the Tec irons and the LIMIT3D irons? I would think that the ball speed is a bit higher with the Tec, no?

Do you think the King Tec X have a softer feel from the Forged Tec X? After going back and hitting my Forged Tec I picked up on the much softer feel than with the Forged Tec X. While the Forged Tec X isn't bad I can definitely pick up on more vibration with them.Okay.

Doing a combo set with these is really tempting to get that extra help in launch and forgiveness in the 5-6 or 5-7 iron.
Maybe even a combo variable/single length combo. You know...just to go full internet golfer! The combo set ponder![]()

Though Yags did approve of the though when I asked him about it in 2022.
