As reference for the spin difference, I was seeing around 6,500-7,000 with the King Tours, and with the same shaft it dropped to about 5,500-6,000 with the King Tecs for me. Launch was slightly lower too because of the lower spin but decent angle wasn’t much different, so I don’t believe I’d have any issues holding or approaching greens at all.Got to test the king tec at the store against the king tours. Major differences I saw were spin and miss hits. Good strikes weren’t that all that much difference performance wise other than that. Spin was about 1,000 rpms less on every shot. Miss hits retained about 5mph ball speed on similar strikes which was very impressive.
I came away impressed. I didn’t feel like I was losing anything in looks and sound/feel but was able to get better performance out of off center strikes with less spin too, which isn’t something I struggle with so I would be a big fan of that option. I think these would be fantastic irons for me, especially in a better shaft than the S taper lite they had to demo.
Did you try the X with the same setupAs reference for the spin difference, I was seeing around 6,500-7,000 with the King Tours, and with the same shaft it dropped to about 5,500-6,000 with the King Tecs for me. 7i? Still plenty of spin if so.As reference for the spin difference, I was seeing around 6,500-7,000 with the King Tours, and with the same shaft it dropped to about 5,500-6,000 with the King Tecs for me. Yep, and agreed.7i? Still plenty of spin if so.
I did not unfortunately. Had the 5yo with me and just testing two clubs was more than he could handle lolDid you try the X with the same setup
I don't have a ton of experience with these types of heads, and didn't really get a lot of time with the old Tec's, so hard to say if the microspheres are making a huge difference or not...but it sounded great. I would say they almost sound a bit more solid than the King Tours if that makes sense. They don't sound hollow at all, just a solid thwack at impact. You can tell they aren't a one piece forging like a CB, but I don't personally feel it's in a bad way at all. I'm trying to come up with an iron I've played previously that I could compare the sound to. It's almost similar to some of the deeper cavities. Best I can do just based on my experience, is the King Tec's sound more like the Srixon 565's, while the king Tours would sound a bit more like the Srixon 765 line. It's a really good sound out of an iron like this.@CBaker I know you mentioned you were happy with sound/feel. Coming from the King Tour's I expect there was at least some difference though. Thoughts on how the two compared? Are you getting a sense that the new microspheres were doing their job?
Probably the hardest subject to discuss in wordsI don't have a ton of experience with these types of heads, and didn't really get a lot of time with the old Tec's, so hard to say if the microspheres are making a huge difference or not...but it sounded great. Going to be a lot of people wondering about how those two compare.KTX One Length(GW-5) arrives tomorrow! I will give my best comparison to what I have been playing(darkspeed OL)
I know it dude. I am incredibly fortunate to have a set coming soon, but still am all jittery with anticipation with that short wait. For an iron that was just released, especially this time of year these sure are getting lots of talk which is awesome. The FOMO is real haha
Ironically, I have been itching to get a new set of OL because I am not a big fan of the Darkspeed looks. For an iron that was just released, especially this time of year these sure are getting lots of talk which is awesome. The FOMO is real haha
That is crazy! Sounds awesome. Would you change from the Tours to the Tec?I will say the King Tecs look and sound extremely good. Look wise at address you can’t tell the difference between them and the king tours.
As someone who can tend to generate a bit too much spin at times, yes, the lower spinning heads would work really well with my game. I don't feel like I'd be losing any of the benefits I've seen from the Tours by going into the Tec...however I would probably stop at PW instead of the set GW with them, as I start at the GW wanting that spin back. That is crazy! Sounds awesome. Would you change from the Tours to the Tec?
I have big time FOMO, I love everything we have heard about these. For an iron that was just released, especially this time of year these sure are getting lots of talk which is awesome. The FOMO is real haha
I thought you were ordering OL last night?I have big time FOMO, I love everything we have heard about these.
I'm ok with lower spin off irons as long as a couple things are true. Spin is not too low and launch is higher. For me I would be looking at going 1* weak with these I think.Going back to the sound and size of the club here...those are the only two aspects to an iron like this that should even come into question. The performance is there, the forgiveness for this compact of a head is there, so it comes down to those. To honestly not know which I was holding at address between the Tec and the King Tour is crazy, but if I walked up and you just handed it to me already down on the ground, I would not have known which it was. And the sound is really good for these, and I am someone who won't play certain golf balls if they give off the wrong pitch. Unless you NEED all the spin you can get, I don't see these not being a fantastic option to look at for you.
Yea the descent angle is huge when you start going lower spin, and I didn't see any issues with the descent angles I was seeing between these and the Tours.I'm ok with lower spin off irons as long as a couple things are true. A lot times the added speed makes the launch a wash. Faster at the same launch will still end up peaking and descending around the same. Still, I can see a tweak like that being a good idea for you.I'm ok with lower spin off irons as long as a couple things are true. Spin is not too low and launch is higher.
