2024 Cobra King Tec, King Tec-X, and King Tec-X One Length Irons

A lot times the added speed makes the launch a wash. Faster at the same launch will still end up peaking and descending around the same. Still, I can see a tweak like that being a good idea for you.
Just more of a personal preference to add a touch more spin for me. My GIR improved a few percentage points this season with the added spin of the CB irons so its all about control for me and not distance. Once I'm able to get some numbers I could make that decision and maybe not a need right away OR maybe I just switch balls again haha. We will see.

Yea, once you have the distance covered it becomes a lot more important to go the route you are talking. A ball could be the trick too - good thought. When you are going to find these to try out?

I'll go look for them probably Saturday. Unfortunately I won't be able to get spin numbers if they have them available and they will have lousy shafts in them but I'll get some launch and distance numbers at least.

Better than waffling like @JDax at least.

Quit backpedaling @JDax

Damn, Cobra is on their game. Already got a shipping notification for these

Depending on when they’re delivered I should be able to get a few rounds in with them fairly quickly

Awesome. Probably have some time before it gets too cold down there too.

Alright, little gripe time. Clubs are awesome performers. Love how many people like the X. Looks and feels, yes, yes, yes. - Shaft options has been a bit of a problem.

Graphite is tough. Basically ESX, PGI, TGI, Catalyst. Everything else an extra $50/club. A bunch of which are not upcharge for competitors.

Steel, I don't even know how to respond on some. Good spread of KBS, DG 105, Elevate. But things like all the Modus, PX, PX LZ, DG 120, all the DG Mids, all being upcharge is tough too.

When that stuff gets priced out against some competitors there's a divide. Cobra players are pretty loyal, but new customers seem to be taking notice.

I had this discussion earlier today. It's 100% a point of improvement for Cobra. I have hopes they make some changes before buying season really kicks off.

Yeah, even as a huge Cobra Homer I have to admit that the shaft options are lack luster and seems like it hasn't changed in years even though newer shafts have been brought to market.

Not knowing the ins and outs of the golf industry supply chain, any idea why it's this different OEM to OEM?

Ehhh. I'm not sure I can comment intelligently.

I was browsing around last night and noticed the same. To disappointing is an understatement.

Preach.

Without speaking to anything specific yeah there's partnerships and contracts and varying availabilities and all sorts of stuff as you'd probably expect. And every company has different focuses on where they spend and create impact and whatnot too. Everything's a balance - which you would know if you've ever heard @Master Yagley bark about @LittleRat not putting half the awesome he comes up with in a club. 😆

Before I dive in and buy these…

Do we think they’ll get the black(grey)out treatment like the Tours 👀

Even if they do those timelines are usually really far apart.

Okay.
Both sets have been hit and hit a lot.

First up the "in hand". They look good. Really good. I have been both complimentary and critical in the past of this lineup, but there isnt a lot to be critical about the appearance here in my opinion. They modeled it well to fit in line with what exists in the more aspirational set in their lineup. The edges are soft without being dull if that makes sense and both the TEC and TEC X offer a comfortable look. What I mean by that is while there might be some demand, there isn't anything scary about them.

In hand I still had to pick up the iron to tell which one I was holding unless I was holding them together. Starting with the X, they nailed the sound. Powerful, full, without giving off any of the hollow you might expect. There is a mildly soft feeling through the audible impact, but generally this feels powerful. Moving to the non X, the feel stayed similar. The sound has a slightly different pitch to it, but only the most discerning ear would pick it up. I can't imagine too many would struggle with feel or sound, as it doesnt stray too far, but overall just gets better.

I played the previous two generations for a lengthy period of time before passing one set to a THPer in a contest (custom shafts and all) and the other to @Hawk with more custom shafts haha. I have the experience here and I honestly was expected to see something pretty similar. I didnt. The X launched the ball nearly a full degree higher than my notes show from previous. Now that could be GolfTEC work or it could be equipment work. I gave those sets away as mentioned above to compare, but getting more launch out of X was pretty darn interesting. The Tec launch angle was similar. Ball speed up on both sets, which I expected based on design.

Being that I only hit them indoors, I want to say one piece that stood out to me. There was a ball today that I missed a good half inch towards the toe side with the X iron and it stayed its line far better than it should and I only lost about 4 mph ball speed. Again, indoor effect sure, but that is something I didnt expect and was pleasantly surprised.

I didnt chart distance, because I was using someone else's bay and didnt know how to save, but more coming for sure.
A degree more launch by the KTX from the FTX !! 😍😍😍

Do you have relative spin numbers to compare when you can capture your own data?

I need to find the KTX to hit. I’m getting the itch to get these in the bag asap.

You need them. You have another HiO to make!

For an iron that was just released, especially this time of year these sure are getting lots of talk which is awesome. The FOMO is real haha
right? I went to bed debating about if I should just simply order a set now.
