2024 Cobra King Tec, King Tec-X, and King Tec-X One Length Irons

I haven’t gotten out to hit them yet I just borrowed them yesterday. But I will play them this weekend.
Is it really borrowing them if they never get returned and stay in your bag 🤣

2022 on the left & 2024 on the right, 2024 slightly more off set and slightly thicker top line. Barely noticeable.

Yea, I'd say both are essentially the same just from the picture. Would have to see all the angles in person.

Question for y'all... I switched to one length (although this question could be answered by those on one length OR variable) and play the 2022 Cobra Forged Tec OL irons. I love the look of them and hit them pretty good. That being said; the one area they've lacked is forgiveness. Upon release the reviews threw them out as a 5-15 handicap club. I sit at a 14 currently down from an 18 when I switched to OL. I've always felt I have been trying to play into these clubs from a skill standpoint. With the new King Tec X OL option, I'm really intrigued as these supposedly blend a player's distance club with a game improvement aimed at 10-20 handicap players more in line with my current skill level.

Has anyone hit both sets to have any comparison thoughts?

I went down to GG yesterday and they unfortunately didn't even have a OL demo head so I hit the standard KTX 7 and liked the look and feel but REALLY struggle hitting demo clubs because I play Jumbo Max L grips and... they always seem to have demo shafts with the skinniest grip available in the world on them making it REALLY hard to do a true comparison. I'm going to try the PGA Tour Superstore today and see if they actually have a demo head in stock to try.

In theory these SHOULD be more forgiving than the 2022 release correct? Wonder how noticeable it will be though to warrant replacing my set given the value is only $300-400 and these are $1,300 new..

Welcome to THP.

I believe forum member @jordiee bought the OL and I think he's played them prior. Not sure which set though.

@oumagic has a lot of OL experience, but I don't think he found them to demo either.

In theory you should definitely pick up some forgiveness. Hope you can find a way to demo them at some point!

Hopefully these are out in the big box stores at the end of the week or next week. It sounds like PGA SS had them already in hand, they just were not putting them on the floor until this Friday!

Thank you for the suggestion! I'm eager to hear folks thoughts. I tried the same length Avodas and just sold those; they were less forgiving than my Cobra set and really punished the hands/arms on mishits. Also dangerously blade-like at address. I've never understood the idea of confidence when looking down at a club until I didn't have any looking at the Avoda irons prior to making a swing LOL!

If you are wondering how the FTX compares to the Apex Ai300, here is the sole comparison. FTX with a smaller blade length & thinner sole.

Again the FTX top line is slimmer and less offset than the Ai300. The better comparison would be the Ai200, in this category in my opinion.

Yea that's a set that probably sounds better on paper than it is in action for us mere mortals.

If you do get a chance to try these out, please stop back by and give us your thoughts.

This won't directly answer your question but I found the X similar to the dark speeds in terms of performance and forgiveness. Although they have a softer feel when being hit... Given that the dark speeds are game improvement I'm sure you can expect more forgiveness than what's your point.

Will do; knowing me I'll just cave and order/buy them and re-grip them and see how they do. I wish they had ONE large grip demo shaft at stores so it's a little easier to compare. Practically got blisters making 20 swings with the variable length KTX yesterday. It's as if the grip wasn't even on the shaft it was so skinny; not sure how folks grip something so damn thin.

From the spec sheets I've found online the offset is supposed to be the same between the 2022 and 2024 models.

You could also buy a single iron and then just fill out the set if you liked them?

There is a joke somewhere in this, I just can't grasp it.

With the new King Tec X OL option
Ugh. That annoys me slightly.

I bought the Forged Tec 2022 One lengths because they didn't have a OL in the X version back then. I thought it was strange at the time but at least they've switched it round this time.

I might have to look at changing again next year then now as the Forged Tec's I have are weaker lofts which has affected my distance as a short hitter any way 🤔

Same.. If they had the X in 2022 I would have gone that route as well. All the 2022 reviews do suggest forgiveness as the biggest weakness of that line given it wasn't the X version..

While we are at it.. know any website you can order the KTX's and pick out Jumbo Max Ultralite grips in a large? Cobra's website doesn't have that particular grip option unfortunately.. Always annoying to have to immediately drop more $$ to re-grip brand new clubs upon arrival.

I don't have a caliper, I was just eye balling it.

The offset looks signifcantly less than the Ai300

Have you hit them yet or just taking photos?
It's rained and I've had work, but Saturday I will be putting them through their paces.
