2024 Cobra King Tec, King Tec-X, and King Tec-X One Length Irons

I will say when testing the Tecs out initially, it was slightly longer than my Tours but not a ton for me. Spin was about 500-1,000 less per shot, but still plenty of spin for a player like me who doesn't lack spin and height. I'll actually most likely be ordering these even a degree or two stronger to knock that height down a bit more, but we'll see as i get more time in with them. Consistency was really good, but I was also swinging pretty well when testing them so I didn't test that out a ton.

I really want to get on course time in with them to truly review, but that is some summary of my thoughts from before that I'll bring back up.
Great to hear about your experience. It mirrors mine pretty well in the small number of swings I got with King Tec.

Gamer set is 243 and I was also seeing around 5-700 rpm lower spin with KT with a little more distance. The big selling point for me was that KT was very easy to hit and hid some heel and toe side misses rather well and much better than my gamers would have. Plus all that forgiveness is in a very nice looking package.

As does damn good looking clubs hahaha

Based off when I hit them at the end of Oct I am leaning towards Tec but yes, I also want to read all the feedback I can on both. Lot's of great feedback in here for X!
I am supposed to receive an X 5 iron that I ordered on Monday. I will be playing a couple rounds later in the week, so I look forward to sharing some thoughts before long, even though it is just one iron.

Just updated my signature to represent my new bag setup.

Went to the range this afternoon to get in some swings before the cold moves in later this week. My last round I wasn’t swinging well and I played from too far back so I didn’t hit many irons. I’ve never been a good ball striker so today I tried to work on my setup, tempo, and ball first contact. Took about 15 balls to get loosened up but once I did the KTX really shined. Had some thin shots and some way out on the toe but overall this was the best I have hit them.

I was trying not to over swing and to feel like I was only swinging 75%. I didn’t lose much if any distance doing that. Guess there’s something to be said about hitting the center of the face. The biggest thing I noticed once I got a decent swing grooved was the consistency. Both directionally and distance wise. Like I said, I’m not a good ball striker and I’m not particularly accurate. L-R dispersion was maybe 15yds, even on some bad toe shots. The consistency in distance is what was really blowing my mind. The tees at this range are slightly elevated so you can see exactly where the ball lands. I don’t think there was more than a 2-3 yard difference in carry with every decent to good strike with each iron. I’ve either never paid attention or I’ve never been that consistent with an iron because I’ve never seen that before with any iron set I’ve played. Sucks it’s gonna be too cold to play soon, I’m excited to see if I can take that to the course

Boo, I enquired again when the King Tec and Tec X would be available to hit locally. The answer was not what I wanted to hear.

"The new King Tec and Tec X will launch in January and that's when we'll have them available for fitting."

Seems like I need to wait more than a month still

My single 8i is out for delivery today. I will probably get to look at it and maybe take a few quick swings but holiday week is busy and with SkyTrak issues data will have to wait anyways

Hit a bunch of irons and got to see some real ball flight outdoors over the weekend.

A few things I'm really liking:
  • Look at address and in the bag. King Tec X is a great option if you're like me and need an iron that helps you but you're still obsessed with good looks.
  • Feel is softer outdoors than in. Still a powerful and solid sounding iron. No mush. No gross click or ting. Not a forged CB. Just a great representation of how you can make a hollow body sound good. Makes you feel like you're faster than you are.
  • Ball flight is typical for me. I don't hit the ball super high, but on my scale they are in the higher range.
  • Sole was nice on some slightly longer fairway lies. No digging.

Went and looked at these again this weekend and am really excited to try out the King Tecs. The store was packed so I didn't get a chance to try them out but I will try them soon enough. I compared to a few different irons and I really like how the look down at the address. There is a little bit sticking out behind the top line at the toe on the 4 and 5 iron but nothing I can't get used to.

I had a chance to play the KTx in a 10-12mph steady breeze with gusts to 15-20. The way my course is oriented and with the direction of the wind only a couple of holes didn't have a cross-wind to some degree.

First, I'll say this - I'm glad I paid for the whole clubface. Swing was off yeterday but, even with that, the KTx helped me. Decently struck shots performed as I expected. Shots moved some but none were blown off the line. I hit a 9i that balloned up in the wind and come up about 10 yards short of the green. Probably my best iron of the day was a 5 from 180 a little uphill and into the wind from about 1 o'clock. Ball was below my feet a bit (hate this) and I had to keep it under the tallish pine tree about 50 yards from me. Hit it great and had about 15 feet to save par.

Nice to hear the X is on the higher side on average for your delivery. I want the X but my initial swings has it a little low. Been exploring golf balls a bit to potentially balance that out.

Try the flipper's secret (XT Soft) lol

Haha I felt the same way when I checked it out last week

They aren't the only set that fits this criteria for me, but man. They are right at the top. I am still surprised - thought for sure they'd be larger than they are.

Oh - one other thing. These are very forgiving for me low on the face. Impressed how well they are handling that miss.
Especially toe side for me. Low heely ones turn out better than I expect but not nearly as well as the low toe misses.

That is my miss, generally.

How do they feel low on the face? I thought during my brief testing they were pretty harsh

Certainly not harsh on the hands. It sounds very thin/sharp of course, but nothing I personally found out of the ordinary.

I thought it felt pretty different compared to my gamers on that same miss but it was chilly outside and balls are rocks so maybe thats all it was.

Could have been the balls for sure. I almost never hit those things thankfully. I think the DPF are probably a little more noticeable lower on the face.
