2024 Cobra King Tec, King Tec-X, and King Tec-X One Length Irons

I played two 18 hole rounds over the last two days and there were only two shots in the entire 36 holes that required this iron. The first was a 195 yard par 3, with nearly all forced carry. I was pretty surprised at the launch. It really got up fast and only rolled out a couple of feet, leaving me with a birdie look. The other shot was an approach. I was about 185 out, but the green as elevated, so I figured 5 iron would be the club. Again, the ball really launched. It felt like I made a solid pass at the ball, but the ball came up short in a bunker. My Garmin watch said that I only hit it about 170 yards. I was surprised, but there was some swirling wind and with the elevated green, I may have simply misjudged. I look forward to using it again, although I am not sure when I will get on a course again for a while.

Standing here at the golf store with a KT in my hand. They did such a good job with the top line. It’s really hard to tell much of a difference between it and my 243. Now, flip it over and it becomes immediately noticeable which has more “Tec” to help out but top line and even offset (the parts we constantly have to see) are minimal in differences.

Indistinguishable from a 245 with the exception of the sole.

Finally had a chance to play a round with the one lengths from the giveaway. For reference I’m about a 15 handicap. Have been using an old set of Ram FX offset forged with DGS300 and standard grips. For this set I went with the King Tec X one lengths, KBS PGI 85 S, and jumbo grips.

I would have preferred the King Tec but that doesn’t have the one length option and I have been wanted to try one lengths because I think it would help with some consistency and long irons (5 and 6) which I struggle with. I bought an Edel SLS 6 iron to test out and did like it so decided to go for it here. Have also been trying out larger grips, midsize, midsize +2, and jumbo and jumbo felt best for me.

I have been hitting them at the range the past couple weeks and finally had a chance to play today. The longer short irons and shorter long irons haven’t been an issue, but the lighter graphite shafts I’m still getting used to. I chose graphite because my old irons have been feeling very heavy and I wanted graphite because I had been feeling some soreness from the mats at the range I go to.

Performance wise I’m still not totally sure yet as I’m working on a swing change so it hasn’t been consistent. Some observations so far:
- overall they feel good and is easier to do a more controlled swing.
- I like the lighter graphite shafts
- irons are longer, probably due to stronger lofts
- they are more forgiving on mishits, but as a result I’m not sure where I mishit it
- so far the mid irons (7,8) have a lower trajectory than my Rams
- center hits have a slight click, which is not as nice as the forged Rams, but not a big deal to me.
- I think the 5,6 have a bit too much offset. Was consistently getting left misses with these

Great feedback. Do you think you might be simply pulling the 5 and 6 due to overswinging and not the offset? I know when I initially dabbled with one length I felt like I had to lean on the long irons

That’s certainly possible. I did initially swing 5 and 6 harder but in the giveaway thread someone also mentioned to not swing long irons harder so I have tried to swing them all the same. My big swing flaw that I’m working on is I take the club too far inside on the backswing and that leads to an over the top downswing. Before my 5 and 6 misses were pulls or slice from my out to in path. Now it’s more of a pull draw so I thought it might have been the offset.

Just a guess but the shorter length makes it easier to release the club. OTT with a closed face = pull draw/hook. I have the same miss at times

Makes sense. Sounds like I’ll just have to get rid of my OTT 😃

@BigDill have you had a chance to put some swings on King Tec set yet? Just wondering how you’re getting along with them if so.

I have not. Work and live have been crazy and I have a race this weekend. I am going out of the country for a wedding next weekend. I’m going to try to hit the range for a few swings next week. I did, however, finally get them in my bag:

Not meaning to rush you I know life can get crazy this time of year! But wow those look so good in the bag. Such a clean and simple look.

No rush. I want to hit them. I just haven’t had time for anything right now.

I still haven't even swung my 8i in the garage. After holiday travel, skytrak issues, the grandaddy and now feeling under the weather...I"m hoping next week

I love Thanksgiving and Christmas, but this really is a tough time for golf addicts in the north

Similar with me and the 4i I picked up. Going to be trying to get out within the next week to actually be able to see performance. At least looks wise I’m so impressed how much they blend into the king tours for those wanting to do that.

Feel better dude. Looking forward to your thoughts.

Looks like the plastic is off, so positive step in the right direction!

Had to go down to the golf store to get some more last minute things for my THP secret Santa.

Like magic I found myself with a King Tec in my hand. 😁

The next thing you know, I was standing in the sim bay hitting the demo head with the stock shaft offering.

***** YES THIS IS WITH RCT BALLS SO SPIN IS ACCURATE*****

Let me say I love the way these feel. Impact is clean crisp and sounds really nice. Ease of use is great too coming from my gamer set. Dispersion was pretty good would work for me relative to my skill level on course.

What I’m concerned with is spin. Maybe I shouldn’t be IDK but my frame of reference is a 243 7i that I spin 6100 on good shots. I can’t seem to get the KT over 5k.

This is the tough part about number chasing. These could very well work great for me on course with the 5-8y bump distance and the spin could be a non factor out there.

I’ve got some more thinking to do. Sorta glad I’ve got a couple of months over winter to make a decision.

I have pretended to be patient, but it's been killing me to have not seen the Tec or Tec X in hand or had the opportunity to swing them yet. Unless something unforeseen happens, it sounds like I'll have to be in Oklahoma City tomorrow and I will absolutely be remedying the aforementioned problem! Loving the feedback in here and beyond anxious to get to contribute even if only based on limited exposure (for now) after tomorrow!

Yes. Go see/hit them in OKC. Maybe meetup with a friend.

Are you using a Pro V1 or Pro V1 X? If not the X, that would get you a little more spin. You will get more spin outdoors, too. In most situations, if your angle of descent is 45*with a 7 iron, you will hold the green just fine. More spin will result in less carry, too. It all is a trade off.

I understand your thought but 5k with 45* landing angle is fine. I ordered mine 1* weak though for that reason. Might need to go 2*, won't know till I get my SkyTrak back

That was kinda my thought too. Peak height and landing angle would suggest to me that they would perform just fine out on the course.

I was also going to say that with those descent angles, the spin should be fine!
