2024 Cobra King Tec, King Tec-X, and King Tec-X One Length Irons

One round in the books for the King Tecs after a couple month layoff because of life. Saw some really good things on the course.

I was able to stop a few balls on the green from distance, including a 7 iron from about 180 out. The descent angles for me have been really good so far, which was a concern I had moving into these from the King Tours. I am playing the Chrome Tour X.

The feel in the grass and with a premium ball is much, much nicer than with the range balls. I still think I will go with a different shaft than the KBS $ Taper Lite in the future, but the slightly harsh feeling I had in the range session dissipated in on course conditions.

As expected with this class of irons, the thin strikes can be a bit punitive, both in feel and performance. My swing is getting back in form with my pre-round range session this morning, so I am hitting more down on the ball and that’s where these irons shine. Really great night when I swing correctly.

I am also finding these irons to be about 5-7 yards longer than my King Tours, which is fun. I feel like I am 5 years younger with the distance increase. I should have the distances dialed in after a mother few rounds.

With all that tungsten in there they should haha. Pretty sure some really smart guys know what they are doing
I know right, Yags knows what he is doing.

Interesting to hear on the thin strikes, I feel like the previous line really shined for me compared to some other types of irons in that area

I am going to follow your journey with these irons. I hit them once and they are nice. I am working on some stuff with my instructor. I am most likely going to be in Boca in February. We should try to meet up and play

Good stuff! glad to hear the feel was better than with the range balls. What shaft are you thinking you'd go with instead?

5-7 yards longer is awesome. that's gonna be fun!

Really good initial feedback good sir.

Would love that. I wish my course was open, but I’m sure we can find somewhere. You are more than welcome to play my King Tecs while you are here. You don’t even need to travel with clubs, I can set you up.

It’s not that they are bad, it’s just more feedback in my hands than I am used to. And I’m not talking about low on the face, I’m talking about bottom of the club thin.

But thinking about it, I felt the same way with the King Tours and the KBS $ Taper shafts. I’m thinking that a shaft swap would resolve my very minor criticism.

If I was going with what’s available on the Cobra site, it would be:

Graphite: Mitsubishi MMT
Steel: True Temper Dynamic Gold 105

If I was going blue sky, it would 100% without a doubt be UST Mamiya Dart shafts. They would make these irons absolutely sing. If we have the option to do our own shaft swaps for the Morgan Cup, this is what I will be doing. I think they would be perfect for the King Tecs, and better than the Dart Vs I have in my King Tours for this specific iron head.

I love the MMT. Have built them in my last 5 sets and never looked back.

I got the KTX on a Trackman a couple days ago. I meant to grab my DS 7i & PW to compare but forgot them. I’ve played the DS enough I kinda know what I’m looking for. I brought several different balls to try against the XT Soft. I hadn’t swung a club in over a month and my swing/game had been on the decline before then and it carried over to start this session.

Started with my 8i and was leaving the face wide open. Carry was averaging about 115 with 9k spin no matter which ball I tried. Short and right is what happens when you hit a flop shot with an 8i. Moved on to other clubs and @KY Golfer mentioned something we had been working on in my setup that I had quit doing. Fixed that and instantly carry jumped to 145 and spin dropped to 6k. That seems a little low to me but the descent angle must have been ok because it was only showing a yard of rollout at most. One of the balls I brought was a CSX LS. Spin dropped to 4k but carry went to 160. That was fun :ROFLMAO:. My very best with the DS 8i were around 130 carry so I’ve gained about a club with the KTX. FWIW, I have KBS TGI 85 in my DS and Nippon 950GH in the KTX. That may be part of the reason for the gains but definitely not all.

The one thing that really stood out after the setup change was the consistency. Other than a couple pushes everything was a small draw. You could’ve thrown a tablecloth over the 10 or so good shots and most of them were slightly off the toe. The forgiveness on that miss is crazy good. There doesn’t seem to be much difference in forgiveness between the KTX and the DS for me.

I’m going to try like hell to work on ingraining the setup and swing this winter. If I can do it these are going to be really fun to play next season.

Yep. I really like the KTX.

Finally got to play some real golf thanks to a trip to Florida. I played a couple different executive courses so lots of irons and wedges in play.

The feel is a little crisper than I expected after my time indoors with them. Very nice crack at impact, but does get a little clacky out on the toe.

Impressively forgiving. I had more than a few shots that were well onto the toe side that either covered my distance or came close. A couple times I groaned at impact only to see the ball carry a bunker and hit the green.

I’m not really sure about distance numbers since I haven’t played in warm weather in a long time, but I felt like I was hitting the ball further than I expected. To me it seemed like I was hitting them quite high, but in a good way. Every ball that hit the green stayed on it with just a little rollout.

The GW is awesome btw. I did flip one that went nowhere, but when I actually put a reasonable swing on it I was seeing a strong ball flight and quick stopping power.

I find myself looking at the King Tec-X One Length irons.

Me too. Really like my AJ OL and hitting them great but my curiosity is working on me. I’d like a set with senior graphite🤭birthday next month🤣

Finally saw these in person. Great looking irons. The only difference I could really see is a narrower top line on the King Tec.

did you get a chance to hit them?

that's too bad! Looking forward to hearing what you think.
I’ll hit them eventually. I was setting up some lessons.

still leaning one length? What's the desire there?
If I went Cobra, it would definitely be OL. Mostly reducing any variables. I’m so inconsistent, hoping OL would help to make my swing more repeatable and more consistent, and therefor make golf easier.
