2024 Mitsubishi Diamana BB Shaft – Blue Board is Back

But that’s been done, for ages. To celebrate 20 years AND to differentiate, something needed to actually be different visually.

Plus, the matte lets the logo and return of the flower band pop in ways the color and ion color finishes didn’t imo.
I feel like I'm reliving several meetings we had over the past year at HQ! Keep the comments coming...... I'm keeping score!

LET'S GO TEAM! Should we head back to Ballyhack @Jman?!

Which side of the scoreboard are you on Mark? Hahahaha

Pulled out the lead tape to do some swing weight experimentation yesterday and today.

Started my round yesterday with a 4 gram piece on the sole of my driver to bump the swing weight up to D2, from D0. What I found from doing that was it did do away with the low pull hook from getting too quick on the downswing, but I also got a lower ball flight and lost some distance. So a little less likely to hit the ball off line but at the expense of distance. Pulled off the piece of lead tape at the turn and got the higher ball flight and more carry distance back and felt like I was making better contact. Only overswung it once resulting in the low pull hook but it was more pull than hook, unlike my first couple of rounds using the shaft, so was still in decent shape. The last 3 drives I hit were the 3 best of the round in terms of distance and dispersion. I was admittedly a bit fatigued at that point from the 94* and very humid conditions so did not have the energy to overswing the club. So I know I can hit it well if I can just keep my body from getting too aggressive with the swing and stop trying to hit the ball harder than I need to.

Decided to do a little more swing weight experimentations this morning hitting balls into the net at 3 different swing weights. Unlike of the course, I felt I could concentrate more on quality of strike without worrying about where the ball was going. Went first with 2 grams of lead tape added (D1 SW), then no lead tape (D0 SW), then 4 grams lead tape (D2). For some reason, my tendency with both of the setups with lead tape added resulted in a lot of contact off the heel side of the club. Much more center contact with no lead tape added. Concentrated on smooth swings with all three setups with no need to try to hit it a certain distance. So I feel what that tells me is to stick with the original build and continue to work on my timing and tempo with this shaft.

I played today with the Blue Board in the Rogue head and I didn't hit a lot of long drives, but they were in the center. I am not sure that this shaft and head combo are as good for me as when I had the Epic Flash with the BB.

I did have one hole, a par 5 where I hit the drive 255, then hit a 5i 197 and made the eagle putt, which is the first eagle in Pinehurst and the first for me in probably 8 years.

I am going to play my next round with the TB in the Rogue head and see how I do.

Had my two most consistent driving days with the Blue Board today and yesterday. I am not hitting the ball quite as high as I did the first round with this shaft for some reason, but I am making much better contact overall and the complete misses have basically disappeared. I believe it has definitely helped my tempo and timing with the shaft by filling in the other 12 swing club spots in my bag with clubs that have lighter and more flexible shafts. The regular flex Blue Board driver shaft is no longer a one off in my bag which is a plus IMO when swinging the driver with this shaft.

Going back to the Diamana GT shaft on Monday for more testing and reviewing with it.

That sounds like a great success!
I am going to go back to the TB on my next round after 2.5 rounds with the BB (with success on the 2 full rounds).

Ok, little bit of golf played this past weekend.
Friday morning early afternoon, played Olde Cypress in Naples, FL. Put my Vanquish from the Mitsu experience in my TSr2 head.
SHAFTFLEXLENGTHWEIGHT/GMSTIP ODTIP LENGTHBUTT ODTORQUEKICK POINT
VANQUISH™ 5S46570.3353.00.5904.2Mid/Low
Titleist TSr2
Playing Length: 46"
Grip of Choice: Golf Pride MCC Plus 4 Teams

Shaft plays great. Gives me more height than my LA Golf DJ shaft, about 20 gr lighter. Averaged 285 including a 295 drive into a 10mph head wind.

Played an exec course late afternoon, so no chance with driver. Next day, played Velancia Golf in Naples. Swapped the Vanquish out for the Blue Board. Similar stats to the Vanquish in regards to weight and stiffness. Totally different feel. I was fortunate enough to have no one behind my twosome and we both were playing multiple balls to experiment with shots. I would take 4-5 tee shots on any par 4 or par 5 with the driver and here are my thoughts:

Feel: Even though it's the same weight, it doesn't feel as "crisp." When I say crisp, the Vanquish has a live feel about it, as if every flush shot is a bullet you just fired with precision and accuracy that you could only dream of. Even the mishits were possilby 10-20 yards left or right of my target and 20 yards short. The Blue Board had less feel in my hands. Flush contact never felt as confident, leading me to try and adjust my setup, with nothing ever feeling comfortable. Dispersion was not as tight. My mishits were basically spraying and I had a more consistent fade then anything else.

The solid hits were consistently 20 yards shorter than my Vanquish with a lower ball flight. Even adjusting the loft of the driver and/or tee-ing the ball higher had no impact on my ball height. This held true through another 18 holes yesterday at The Legend, at Ave Maria in Naples Florida. Several opportunities to drive par 5's had the same results with the BB coming up shorter than my Vanquish (I changed shafts after 2 hits on the same tee box to compare shafts with same weather/ball conditions).

I will be going to the range this week with my launch monitor to try and get some numbers. I have a feeling the ball spin is going to be a little higher with the BB, which is something that I've had a problem with on OE shafts. Stay tuned...

My dude, this is a great update! Keep em coming!

Blue Board is back in play today

Giving the Blue Board a rest this week in favor of the GT. Have to go back in Friday for more work on my scalp issues so will it will probably be week after next before I get the BB back on the course. Will be checking the thread for any questions that may arise and I'm sure I will be hitting balls into the net next week with the BB in my driver to continue working on my tempo with this shaft.

Would like an 80 gram version. To put in my uw.

Mother Nature is answering those that said we were too dry….fingers crossed for some range numbers over the next couple of days.

Remember fellas, talk about EVERYTHING, and don’t fear being redundant!

After 2.5 rounds with the BB in the Epic Flash and Rogue head, I switched back to the TB for today and the distances were slightly better as the ball flight is more penetrating with my swing.
The feel of the TB is just so different. The TB feels, I don't know, stronger, than the BB. The TB for my swing and tempo, especially if I get quick in my transition, is a better fit. But if I can control my tempo, then the BB gave great results with an easier swing and feels so smooth.
I am conflicted as both are great, but for different reasons.
I did not manage any 300 yard drives like @G8rJimbo , but I did get one out 275 leading to a birdie from 72 yards out for my second shot.

I just finished up my round with the blue board. It’s only my second round as I’ve been alternating back-and-forth with the WB.

Today’s round was played on a new course that is long at 6680 from the white tees. Needless to say, the blue board got a workout. I’ll dive into my Shot Scope stats more when I get home but for now I’ll just talk about the feel and eyeball test.

As a reminder, I’m playing the 53X in this shaft. While the weight is very similar to the WB, that’s the only apples to apples comparison. The feel to me is very very different.

Right now, my main swing thought is tempo and being smooth. With the BB I can feel it moving if I’m not super smooth. When I feel that, I end up trying to make changes mid swing which obviously doesn’t work out. on the flipside, when I do have a smooth tempo, the shaft squares up and gets me a great ball flight. I did have two today that got out to just over 300 yards. The problem is the bad ones were more spinny and left me in worse spots.

Like I said, it’s only been two rounds with the BB and two rounds with the WB so still lots to play and digest. Initial impressions though tell me that slightly softer and higher spinning BB might not be perfect for me in driver Because of my swing deficiencies.
