2025-2026 College football thread

I generally don't mind the Big Ten or their fans - except Ohio State.

Their "f**k Dolly Parton" chants and matching t-shirts last year were tantamount to declaring war on the entire State of Tennessee.
Did you go to the game?

I don’t really get that kind of stuff. Makes them real easy to root against

There are two sides to every story but in general I agree with you.

What happened was that Tennessee came into the stadium (a large group) singing Rocky Top saying that this is Neyland (their stadium) North. They were really whooping it up during the game and their players came out in just t-shirts (it was about35*) having a good time. Well as the game progressed the Ohio State crowd started to get into the game and the Tennessee crowd got more quiet. Well by the end of the third quarter, most of the Tennessee people started to walk out including the guys in their orange stripped bibs and not saying anything after proclaiming that Ohio Stadium was Neyland North. As they were walking out a lot of the Ohio State people started chanting Rocky Flot, Rocky Flop....plus I'm sure a few things about Dolly.

So neither side was classy. Like all fans at all stadiums

It definitely goes both ways...it always does - but I'm pretty sure they weren't printing the offensive Dolly t-shirts during the game in response to the way the TN fans were acting...lol

Texas fell on hard times. You think it’s a coincidence the richest program by far suddenly turned it around when they could spend money? You think Michigan sudden rise from being down just happen to happen when NIL started? 12-2, 13-1, 15-0 after years of 4th and 5th place finishes? Texas and Mich hadn’t done anything major in years. Just because they were storied doesn’t mean they were actively competitively. Yale is storied too. That doesn’t mean they are competing for titles these days. Y’all’s AD was one of the first to go to alumni and say “hey you wanna win? You better pony up.“ And they did which translated to some major players being retained and some big money transfers.
Alabama sucked too prior to Saban, all teams go through periods of ****

Cig stated months ago they put 70+ mil into the program over the last year or so. Cuban isn’t even close to the richest person they have. So NIL definitely was a big part of it. Without the big donations they don’t bring in the players they do. It’s not like Troy went and won a title. Cig is smart enough to downplay it though because otherwise everyone will just point and go see you can buy a title and he doesn’t want that. But he was pretty point blank saying you know if Cuban wants to give us 10 mil every year and gives us more next year cool. Cig got the big donors to buy in and that’s how they turned around so fast combined with pro age players. Look at their HS recruiting. It’s not high ranked at all. Where they excel is transfer portal. You don’t win titles by hs recruiting and developing anymore. Sucks for hs recruits but it’s true. All the heisman now are transfers. No point in focusing on hs player anymore.
Source?
According to AI / Google that didn’t happen.
According to nil-ncaa.com Indiana spent 21.1M on NIL in 2025, within 200K of Alabama.

If you posted it I missed it…which programs were shut down by NIL?

The modern era is not about rich people buying championships (at least no more than it was before), it is about other schools realizing they can spend legally and doing so. That has leveled the playing field dramatically. for all its flaws the current system is a million times better than what we used to have.

this 100000000x

The system was broken but sustainable if only select schools were “bidding” on players. Now that it’s a free market those numbers are eye watering thanks to supply and demand.

The beauty of this is that we will see the system either burn and crumble into a memory of a better time or perhaps there’s light at the end of the tunnel where we go back to having this be about amateurs representing their ala maters

Is aTm even a real sec team? Some transplants take a while to get establishe.
Dunno? I’m on the sec is mid bandwagon anyways.

Rumored to be going to Miami. Brutal for Duke because they have no opportunity to replace him. The calendar really needs to be fixed.

Barkate recommitted to Duke after Mensah did a couple weeks ago. Then, Mensah pulled the rug out from under Duke (and Barkate).

Wonder what Jim Phillips is up to? He's been very quiet lately.

Hey I live in Tennessee and I think that she has done a lot for the state and the people in Tennessee. She is nothing but class in my books!!

And a pre-season rank inside the Top 5...they play that soft as Charmin schedule, maybe lose to Miami, and get their guaranteed slot in the playoffs.

I dunno, will the ND guarantee stuff change anything? An 11-1 ND team was always going to be in the top-12. Let's say ND goes 10-2 (Ls to Miami and BYU), which would leave them as a 10-win team likely with zero quality wins. Couldn't the committee potentially just place them 13th, and bring in other 2-loss or even some 3-loss teams with quality wins? Maybe?

As long as it doesn't interfere with Alabama getting in.

This guy should be a doctor by now!
